I used S3 at a previous job to supplement the online storage for our clients. We used a SOAP API which worked smoothly. I don't recall any major outages or downtime that adversely affected our clients.

The foremost thing in the minds of users in a cloud environment is security and IBM helps deliver this alongside its hosting services perfectly. Also having servers to in a cloud environment powered by IBM is very time and cost effective.
I do believe the system could be updated to better reflect the systems needed to utilize the cloud platform
