**What do you like best about Workiva?**

I use Workiva for SEC filing, reporting with W Data, and other minor entities. I like how Workiva keeps our version control in check and allows for commenting and workflow on shared documents. It also enables us to conduct SOX testing, perform markups, and handle sample selections and requests efficiently. I'm glad we did the initial setup ourselves because it was very educational, which made us more familiar with the system.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

Some areas that can be improved are markups, uploading support for audit and SOX testing. The sampling tool isn't as useful as I would like it to be, plus the request section and attaching things to spreadsheets can be a little finicky. The initial setup took much longer than I thought because we did it on our own without paying for a catered experience.

**What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Workiva keeps our version control in check, enhances workflow on shared documents, facilitates SEC filing and reporting with W Data, assists in SOX testing, markups, sample selection, and requests.

**What do you like best about Workiva?**

I like the Excel plugin with Workiva, because as someone working in FP&A, I can easily upload budget and forecast data to the web-based version for other users to see. It makes things a lot easier. I just create a standard Excel upload template, turn on the Workiva Excel plugin, and push the data into Workiva. Workiva being the source of truth for the latest actuals simplifies the quarter-end close process by saving me the step of linking data together and updating in Excel or PowerPoint to analyze budget vs. actual variances, effectively reducing version control issues.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

Some challenges are that not all of the Excel formulas are readily available. Sometimes it's not so easy to see which Excel formulas are being run in certain cells. We've had issues in the past where another team was using a subtotal formula, and then we were using some formulas. So the subtotal and some formulas were interacting in a way where the totals on the page were not adding up. This is more of a challenge with Workiva. If we were able to audit or see more clearly which formulas are being run on which cells, it would be easier to catch these inter-team differences.

**What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Workiva is my source of truth for quarter-end actuals, integrating them directly into reports. It saves me from linking data manually in Excel and reduces version control issues.

What I like best about Workiva is its ability to serve as a true single source of truth for ESG data. It streamlines the entire process, from data collection to reporting, by allowing internal stakeholders to input information directly into the platform, which improves accuracy and accountability.

There is currently nothing I dislike about Workiva.

**What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Workiva solves several key challenges we face in ESG and sustainability reporting, particularly around data fragmentation, manual processes, and lack of consistency. Before using Workiva, our data lived across multiple spreadsheets, emails, and teams, which made it difficult to ensure accuracy, track changes, and maintain version control. With Workiva, we now have a centralized platform where all ESG data is collected, validated, and stored, creating a true single source of truth. It streamlines data collection by allowing stakeholders to input information directly into the system, which improves accountability and reduces the need for constant follow-ups. The platform also helps automate calculations, including GHG emissions, and makes it easy to track year-over-year trends.

**What do you like best about Workiva?**

Workiva has been a strong solution for our SOX program. I especially like using it as a centralized controls and risk repository, which improves visibility and consistency across processes. The ability to track SOX control testing progress in real time helps keep testing on schedule and makes coordination between teams much more efficient.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

One area that could be improved is the quarterly certification process. The way certifications are distributed and completed feels cumbersome and less intuitive than it should be, which can slow down responses and increase follow‑ups.

Workiva solves the problem of fragmented SOX documentation and tracking by providing a centralized platform for risks, controls, and testing. Instead of relying on spreadsheets and emails, we can maintain a single source of truth for our controls and risk repository. This improves transparency, accountability, and consistency across teams. **What do you like best about Workiva?**

The Efficiency Angle: The data linking is the biggest win. Being able to change a number in a single spreadsheet and knowing it’s going to update across my entire FS package - including the narratives and the MD&A - is a huge relief. It basically eliminates the 'did I miss a spot' anxiety during the year-end rush.

The Collaboration Angle: I love that it’s actually built for teams. Unlike working in a shared Excel drive where someone always locks the file, multiple of us can be in a document at once. The audit trail is also great because I can see exactly who changed a figure and when, which makes my review process much cleaner.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

The Formatting Angle: The formatting can be a bit finicky compared to native Microsoft Word or Excel. Sometimes getting a table to look exactly right for a final PDF output takes more manual 'massaging' than I’d like. Also, if you’re coming from heavy Excel use, you’ll definitely miss certain complex formulas or pivot table functionalities.

The Learning Curve Angle: There’s a bit of a steep learning curve at the start. It’s not a tool you can just jump into and master in an afternoon; you really need to understand the 'Workiva way' of structuring data. Also, the platform can occasionally lag when you’re dealing with massive datasets or very long, link-heavy documents.

**What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The Accuracy Angle: It's solving the version control nightmare. Before this, we had 'Final_v1', 'Final_v2', etc. Now, there is one 'Source of Truth.'
It has significantly reduced the risk of reporting conflicting numbers in different sections of our financial statements.

The Audit Angle: It has made our audit season much smoother.
We can give our auditors limited access or just provide them with the 'blacklines' (change reports), which saves us from having to manually explain every minor edit we made between drafts.

**What do you like best about Workiva?**

The ability to create workflows and connect files that speak to each other. This ability allows organizations to standardize reporting across the teams involved.

My favorite part of workiva is the ability to use track changes and create blacklines between different milestones. It just expands the ability to review in a clean and systematic way.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

There are two areas that can improve.

1) Track changes in slides - currently this is not an option (sad). Practically, it would be difficult to track changes when an object, image, text box or numeric table move placement within the slide. Setting aside object placement, enabling track changes in the slides could be done at the table level (similar to spreadsheets) or inside a text box (when the text descriptions change).  Currently, blacklines between milestones for slides are helpful, but not perfect - it would be great to see blacklines that show changes within tables or text boxes.


2) Permissions - this can be very hard to maintain, specially when teams in the platform grow overtime. It would be helpful to have a designated workflow in workiva, that forces teams to confirm they need access before the beginning of the reporting period. This would enhance access controls and ensure all teams have the right access through the tool (rather than managing email communications outside the platform).

  ### 7. Well-Designed Carbon Module with Clean Navigation and Outstanding Workiva Support

**What do you like best about Workiva?**

I like that the Carbon module, which is the one I use, is very well thought out from end to end. It takes into account how different people use the information, including the data manager, data owner, and auditor. I also appreciate the integrations available, such as bulk uploads directly from the files space and estimations created directly on the platform using raw data. Navigation is quite easy as well, since the interface is clean and accessible.

My favorite part is the ongoing support we receive from Workiva’s team. They’ve designated a CSM for us, and we have weekly check-ins. In terms of performance, we’ve had some issues, but since we understand the product is still being developed, we’ve been flexible about them.

Finally, because it’s integrated with our financial data, I believe the cost and ROI are pretty competitive compared with other solutions. AI is something we haven’t been able to use in Carbon yet, since it’s a capability that isn’t available at this time. Some other ESG modules have artificial intelligence capabilities, but we don’t currently have access to them.

Using AI in the carbon module would be interesting, in terms of having an agent navigate our data and provide precise answers, removing the need to navigate the entire platform to get to one data point.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

Artificial intelligence capabilities are not available yet in the carbon module, or not profoundly, so this is something I'm looking forward to. This make retrieving specific information a hassle, from time to time. Also, there is still an opportunity for output specificity and data points analysis. As an ESG manager, I need some more granularity in some dimensions, like more Greenhouse gas emission types included in calculation, not just CO2 equivalencies. Also, calculating emissions from mobile combustion is a function that can be optimized, since you can't currently set up vehicles as hybrid. You currently calculate Scope 2 emissions from vehicles in the buildings site, which is not accurate since these are mobile, not stationary, emission sources.

**What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I know workiva is working towards having more types of GHGs calculated than just CO2e, which is necessary for accurate emissions reporting. Also, they have started including estimation tools, that make things easier as we don't always have the source data available. Finally, they are constantly working on bugs that affect emissions output, which is something I-m always relieved to learn.

**What do you like best about Workiva?**

My favorite feature in Workiva is the ability to link numbers from workbooks directly into documents. We have our memos and financial statements connected to workbooks, so we can update the workbook once and then just hit publish, instead of manually changing each number in multiple places. This saves time and really helps prevent errors.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

There are a few things I wish were different. I wish you could automatically roll forward documents like financial statements; without that, we have to roll forward those documents manually. It would also be helpful to have Claude accessibility so we could use Claude to update documents, or to have a more interactive Workiva AI that can directly make changes instead of only providing suggestions or refinements.

**What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?**

By linking our documents to the underlying workbooks, we’ve reduced the amount of “fat fingering” that used to occur.

**What do you like best about Workiva?**

I use Workiva for SEC reporting, including 10Q and 10K filings, and it provides a great access point to produce and publish forms with the SEC. It's very user-friendly. I enjoy the Workiva platform as well as its support team, who can assist if I ever run into a formatting issue or tagging issue. We can reach out for quick and effective help. I also appreciate having previously used Workiva and enjoyed using it. The initial setup for my team was simple.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

I would ideally like to see it have more Microsoft Word type functionality. For formatting, etc.

I use Workiva for SEC reporting, like 10Q and 10K filings. It provides an easy access point to produce and publish forms with the SEC and is user-friendly. The support team assists quickly and effectively with any formatting or tagging issues.

**What do you like best about Workiva?**

Its intuitive menus and options are really easy to navigate when you’re a beginner. Later on, once you’ve had a bit more practice with it, it feels like using Microsoft tools all in one place.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

There are a few minor setbacks when handling large amounts of information coming in from the chains. Typically, it takes about 30–40 minutes to run a set of around five chains, but in some cases it can take closer to two hours to run the same set.

**What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When I’m managing a project that usually requires multiple versions of the same file, this helps keep everything organized. It makes it easier to maintain information and keep it all in a single workspace, without needing multiple SharePoints or cloud storage services where information can get lost if it isn’t properly documented.

**What do you like best about Workiva?**

Workiva’s technical performance and well-organized data management are exceptional, particularly in collaborative environments. As a Compliance Manager in the financial consulting sector, my favorite capability is linking data directly from workbooks into our compliance memos and financial statements. We can update a central workbook and then simply hit publish, which keeps every document fully consistent without having to manually adjust numbers in multiple places. This real-time collaboration gives our team a clear view of control attributes, greatly reduces manual errors, and I also want to note that the initial setup was remarkably straightforward.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

There are a few operational areas that could be improved to make daily workflows smoother. First, I strongly believe the platform should offer automatic email notifications. Right now, I have to manually check folders every day to see whether a client has uploaded new documentation; targeted email alerts tied to specific folders would be extremely helpful. 

In addition, the platform lacks an automatic roll-forward feature for recurring documents (for example, periodic financial statements), which keeps this process more manual than it needs to be. Finally, it would be beneficial to have a more autonomous, interactive AI feature perhaps similar to Claude that can directly carry out document updates, rather than only suggesting refinements.

**What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In financial consulting, maintaining data integrity and regulatory compliance is paramount. By structurally linking our final reports to the underlying workbooks, Workiva has helped us eliminate the manual data-entry errors (often referred to as “fat-fingering”) that used to occur. This approach keeps our financial documents strictly consistent, saves our team a substantial amount of time, and significantly improves the operational efficiency of our compliance management.

What I like best about Workiva is its ability to centralize and streamline the entire financial reporting process in one controlled environment. The platform’s linking functionality ensures that numbers are consistent across the financial statements, footnotes, and MD&A, which significantly improves accuracy and audit defensibility. I also value the collaborative workflow features, such as task assignments, version control, and real-time editing, which make it easier to coordinate across teams during tight reporting timelines. Overall, it enhances both efficiency and transparency in producing SEC-ready filings.

One of the challenges with Workiva is that certain processes still rely on manual intervention outside the platform, particularly for more complex calculations or non‑GAAP adjustments, which can create additional reconciliation steps and version control considerations. In addition, while the linking functionality is powerful, it can sometimes be difficult to troubleshoot when links break or when values do not update as expected. The platform can also be somewhat rigid in terms of formatting and customization, which occasionally requires extra time to achieve the desired presentation for filings. Overall, while highly effective, there are opportunities to improve flexibility and reduce reliance on offline processes.

**What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Workiva is solving the challenges of managing a complex, multi‑stakeholder financial reporting process by centralizing data, documentation, and collaboration in a single controlled environment. It reduces the risk of inconsistencies by enabling real‑time linking across financial statements, footnotes, and supporting schedules, which helps ensure accuracy and audit defensibility.
For me, this is particularly beneficial during the 10‑Q/10‑K process because it streamlines coordination across teams, tracks task ownership, and maintains version control, which minimizes manual errors and rework. It also improves transparency into changes and supports efficient review cycles, especially when working under tight deadlines.

Workiva has amazing features that make the process much easier.

Very often connection is very slow.
There are features to be improved such as - formulas, pivots.
There is no current way to share document with big group of people  without giving access to each one to Workiva - for example group of 10000 people within one organization.

Workvia unify all the data into one or two documents, instead to have many on the desktopn. By creating connections between the documents, its significantly reduces the time and automate the processes.

**What do you like best about Workiva?**

How easily you can create folders, assignments for individual names, has an audit trail, and provides collaboration in real-time work assignments.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

I dislike when it logs me out, has learning curves and limits on word functions like custom highlighting, bolding, or underlining. It also has spreadsheet limitations, such as not being able to see the formula and modeling capabilities, handling large complex data connections, and experiencing slower loading times. Additionally, it does not always provide all documents for download when there are numerous items to import or export.

**What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For Internal Audit, it provides an audit trail and connects with the business on ownership instead of using emails for status updates. It simplifies SEC filing preparation and eliminates the need to copy and paste data across multiple locations documents.

I like the word/excel document feature within the online portal compared to other Company's versions of an excel add on.  It is easy to link numbers and compare documents to prior versions.  It is also easy to collaborate with team members and have multiple people edit a document at the same time.

I do find it hard to apply user access changes to various folders and files in a given workspace. Sometimes I give someone access to the folder, but then i need to do the same for all sub folders and files.

I like the wide range of automations I can build and use on the platform. Repetitive tasks related to recurring, standard reports are handled automatically by the system, which saves a significant amount of time and effort. I also like the linking functionality: after refreshing the data sources in our internal systems, I can sync all the changes into Workiva and everything updates automatically. Report forms are defined once and remain consistent, so I don’t need to maintain or adjust them each time.

I also appreciate the collaborative features in Workiva. Multiple users can work on the same documents at the same time, and it works better than other cloud platforms I’ve used so far. Workiva is a very useful tool that helped us align our financial reporting and tax process. I find the feature of multi-user editing plus real-time tracking extremely useful. Our auditors have appreciated this software as they can post their comments directly, allowing us to resolve them timely. Uploading supporting documents is also very easy. The software is very user-friendly and easy to operate.

Initially, our team and auditors were not familiar with this tool. There are a lot of options on the left pane of the screen when we open any Excel file or document. Sometimes it becomes quite confusing to navigate through these options. The options should be more clearly visible, and those which are rarely used should be removed, or there could be an option to customize the options pane depending on specific user needs as not all things are relevant there for us.

It's not very user friendly when you need to file an exhibit in the SEC filing in a pdf format. It will create multiple images instead of just one pdf file

Workiva is easy to use and implement and integrate into our current systems. In my experience, customer support has been very helpful and quick to respond to any issues as they arise. Workiva has made our reporting process quicker and more efficient with internal linking features. All in all, I have loved using workiva and it has been a great tool for our quarterly financial reporting.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

The only downside so far of Workiva is the lack of ability to use excel documents. When transitioning, there was a bit of a lift to get our excel support workbooks into the proprietary SS formats.

One feature that I dislike the functionality of is the markup/tie out tools. I think they are a bit clunky and could be updated to be more user friendly and better presentation.

Workiva has helped us easily file quarterly reports and go through our quarterly reviews and annual audits.

Updating tables and FNs is much easier and more streamlined than prior to Workiva and there is large room for human error.

What I value most is how clean and well-organized the platform is, and how it manages to centralize everything in one place. I especially like that it automatically links data and documents—something I used to spend far too much time doing manually in spreadsheets. Now everything is much more structured and easier to manage, and above all, we work with fewer errors.

The problem is that when I try to customize the templates, the links sometimes break and cause issues. There’s hardly any freedom to modify things, and it’s complicated to configure. It would be better if it were more fluid—something I could control more easily—because right now it feels quite tedious to work with.

I love the user interface of Workiva because it has functions very similar to Excel, which gives us the opportunity to build and customize all reporting functions like formatting, formulas, and charts. The functions are easy to use and there are plenty of training options available. This is particularly important as we continue to add more users and reports, such as the proxy statement. I also really appreciate the Workiva sync feature because it prevents manual copy/paste errors and creates a seamless link from our external reporting package in Excel to our financials. Additionally, the peer disclosure benchmarking tool not only pulls peer data, but uses AI to compare it to our current disclosures and provides suggestions.

The status bubble features are amazing for tracking what I’ve done and what is outstanding. It's really nice to quickly open workbooks or documents and see what's open, what has been reviewed, and what's stuck based on the outline labels. Also, the Workiva team was super helpful, making the transition smooth.

I have trouble sometimes with rounding and footing. The platform is sometimes too smart and rounds and it ends up creating a problem where the workbook doesn't match the document when full precision is used. I don't use Workiva with other tools because our platform is not linked to NetSuite.

I use Workiva for SEC Reporting because it simplifies the process of preparing SEC filings by creating efficiencies in collaborating, data accuracy, and version control. I value most the ability to link values through my SEC documents to a centralized worksheet for quick and consistent updating and tie out. It speeds up the process of rolling forward documents, allowing us to quickly and easily populate prior period values stored in the centralized worksheet and add current period numbers to the centralized worksheet, pushing those values to various locations in our SEC document. Additionally, we can create dynamic text values that adjust and update throughout the document based on current period values, like increases vs decreases. The initial setup of Workiva was pretty easy thanks to my prior experience, so I find it straightforward to navigate. I would give Workiva a 10/10 and consider it a must-have for SEC reporting.

I would like to see a whole document AI review, for example, AI doing an entire read of the document and offering suggestions for improved language to better conform language to industry standards and call out areas of potential concerns that might require additional attention.

Multiple users can review and make updates in the system at the same time, which has really helped us improve our reporting process over the past few years. The linking functionality is also excellent, as it gives us confidence that the right data points stay consistent throughout the document. We recently implemented a process for business owners to go into the Workiva document and make the updates themselves and as these are business leaders who are sometimes reluctant to try new technology, we found that each person was able to complete their tasks timely, efficiently, and without any roadblocks. We also utilize Workiva for XBRL services and the representatives we work with are incredibly helpful, communicative, and timely in their responses whenever we have had any issues.

Workiva is a very easy to navigate system. It is easy to copy prior filing documents forward and make edits. It has been a huge time saver to our team! We have not connected to any other platforms, but have used some of the excel sync functionality.

It would be great if we could link directly from an Excel workbook rather than the single source file. It would also be nice if there was an easier roll forward process between 10-Q and 10-K filings. Right now, all updates made into the 10-Q have to be copied into the 10-K which is not ideal.

The platform's linking and formulas make transforming spreadsheet financial data into formal financial statements much easier. It's intuitive for someone familiar with Microsoft Suite; the formulas in their spreadsheet feature work just like Excel. Their version of word documents is similar too, allowing for editing and tracking changes, plus leaving comments like in Word. I particularly like how different forms of deliverables, such as PDF-style vertical documents and slide presentations, can be linked to the same source of truth or worksheet with financial info.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

This is a small preference item but one thing on my mind is that I would like to see more flexibility with a feature called range linking. It is helpful and a good feature overall, but it can lead to cluttered visual presentation within deliverables using range linking. When you range link, a table in a financial statement document linked back to a spreadsheet in your file has a green border around the perimeter of the table to show the viewer that it is a range link. I am happy with the green perimeter indicator. But then it also puts a green triangle in the corner of every single cell in the destination table, creating visual clutter in the file that I don't think can be turned off as far as I know. Of course, when you print the document none of it appears, but during the preparing and review stage in Workiva, the range linking displays an excessive number of colored indicators.

I find Workiva to be a useful tool for gathering all the data in a very clean format, and it's very good at organizing comments and the review process. The milestone and black line functions are really good for me to keep track of all the changes. I especially appreciate the milestone function for managing different versions during different levels of reviews for various parties, which allows me to go back to older versions and look at historical data with a good timestamp of edits. The black line function is very commonly used and provides a very plain way to show changes, which I share with our auditor and audit committees.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

I'm struggling with formatting issues in Workiva. Things like page breaks and sentences getting cut off in the Edgar view need to be manually checked every quarter. This is pretty tedious. The 'keep with next' and 'keep lines together' functions also require manual checking, which impacts the presentation and look of 10 Q's and 10 K's on the SEC website.

I really appreciate using Workiva for its ease of use, especially the Wdesk's Linking features, which make it simple to roll forward dates and financial values when reporting to the SEC. Updating each period is straightforward. The abundance of tutorials, training materials, help articles, and other resources are always helpful. The Help icon visibility and easy access to the 'Help & articles' and 'Troubleshooting' areas are incredibly valuable whenever I have questions or difficulties. I find it beneficial that it's easy to find community questions from others who have faced similar issues. I also like the forward-looking nature of the company, as Workiva always seems to be rolling out new, preparer-friendly solutions to assist customers. One of my team’s favorite features in Wdesk Documents is the 'Outline labels' feature, which, when connected with Automations, helps create an excellent project management tool by visually indicating status and providing email notifications for any changes. The setup for new users is always easy, and I think Workiva offers the best SEC Reporting software solution.

I'd love to see expanded features within Automations. Viewing activity allows a user to see when an automation was run, but it does NOT allow the user to see which outline label was changed. This would make Outline Labels/Automations an even more powerful project management tool by providing a detailed audit trail.

I really enjoy the new dynamic tables feature that launched recently. Before, we had to change the order of line items in a table and sometimes when we carried forward a document the order got scrambled. But with dynamic tables, this issue no longer exists, and it ensures that when we carry forward a table and change a line item's amount, it is presented correctly. I also appreciate that the data is organized within the document, making it easier for tie-outs and review, while allowing the same data point to be used throughout the documents. The setup was great because someone from the company helped and made the transition seamless.

It maybe my own skill issue with Workiva but I wish there was a way for a dynamic roll forward to be done so if we are carrying forward a Q1 financials it could automatically pickup numbers from the previous Q1.

I really appreciate the fast filing process with Workiva. Having the CCC and CIK numbers saved is great. The process of submitting forms is clear and easy, which makes the whole experience smooth. The test file feature is fantastic because it allows me to prepare before live filings. I love how simple and easy to learn Workiva is, especially for filing form 4's. It's clear on selecting specific individuals and understanding what is accepted or not, which simplifies the process. What would be great is if there was a way to have multiple emails saved out in the "Notify" portion of filing. For example: I have the live filing sent out to 3-4 different emails every time. My company creates 3-4 company wide financial statements and Workiva makes this so seamless. I love the track changes/review function, comments and even being able to send review copies to our auditors. The best feature though is the attachment feature - we can add tie out support directly into our document, then download a zip file with all the support and send to reviewers within seconds. Previously, we had to zip all the support ourselves which can take awhile. This feature saves us so much time and leaves a great trail for review as well as onboarding new team members - they can see exactly what support goes with each number as they're learning our financials. Can't imagine doing my job without Workiva!

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

The improvement I wish I could have from Workiva is specific to the Presentations - Powerpoint just has so many more Smart Art options and ways to customize slides that Workiva doesn't have.

I find it very easy to compare versions of the same document, provide review copies to auditors, and leave/respond to comments. I really like the Workiva sync feature where I can do all the work in Excel and then sync the data to Workiva instead of manually typing everything. This feature has taken a process that would've taken countless hours and turned it into the click of a few buttons.

I wish there was a way to do blacklines against other documents in the workspace that may not be in the same folder. There are a lot of features that we weren't originally taking advantage of.

I like the access I get to client filings with Workiva. It's great because I can log in and view the most recent draft any time I want, without having to rely on my clients to send them. This real-time access has really streamlined the process, allowing me to comment, get comments back, and see changes without waiting for a new draft to circulate. I’ve managed Sarbanes-Oxley ("SOX") Compliance in some capacity for 15+ years, and I’ve seen many different ways businesses maintain, monitor, and report on their internal control environments. Workiva has met nearly all of our needs in SOX Compliance space. For the few areas where it hasn’t fully met our direct needs, the Workiva team has consistently been a strong partner in finding creative solutions.

The Process runs we can execute for 302/906 SOX certification requests (i.e., questionnaires submitted through the application to internal business stakeholders) are seamless and intuitive. They help us confirm the design and operating effectiveness of our control environment while significantly reducing the level of effort required from my team.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

Our biggest challenge is change reporting. We often need to report quarterly updates to the design of our internal controls. Reporting is available, but it isn’t in the “track changes” format we prefer. As a result, we have to prepare it manually, which can be time-consuming. That said, our Workiva partners have provided solutions that help expedite the process.

**What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We’ve raised change reporting with Workiva as a solution that could benefit both us and other teams using the application. I like that Workiva solves the problem of data decentralization by linking all my Excel tabs into one place and easily syncing the file. I also appreciate being able to choose whether I want to resync all my tabs, or just some of them. This feature is helpful because it allows me to update only certain tabs and leave the already perfect data untouched. Additionally, the initial setup of Workiva was very easy and quick.

Sometimes when syncing, the linking gets messed up and it's a pain to fix. If I have 25 rows in Excel and 25 rows in Workiva, they should match exactly when I sync, but that's not always the case.

I use Workiva for our SOX program and appreciate how it helps manage all requests within the same platform and links key reports with controls. I really like the linkage between narrative, controls, key reports, and systems. It's great that I can connect Workiva with Cursor through API, which is beneficial because it allows me to make updates to the controls page using Cursor instead of manually.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

It does not have an ability to add PBC request type, and it does not allow to answer comments using Cursor. The current PBC request types are Sample, Population, General. We want to add 'Follow Up'. Regarding comments, the Workiva Developers page currently doesn't have the endpoint explaining how to have @mention comments answered via cursor. It was challenging to set up. As much as we enjoy the functionalities Workiva offers, it took a lot of time to customize and understand how the features work.

I like being able to click into and drill down into various financial metrics to confirm that they are properly linked and consistent across documents. I like how easy it is to notify other colleagues about changes within a document. The notification process via email is also helpful. I also appreciate being able to share and collaborate with other finance functions and integrate financial data from other sources with traceability. Understanding the basic functionality of Workiva is straightforward.

The formatting can be clumsy at times. It's similar to working within a Word document but not quite the same. You have to invest time learning where certain functions are within Workiva. Finding documents can also require a few too many clicks than would be optimal. Creating tables and ensuring that formatting is consistent within them is not super clear. The same goes for editing text and pasting in text from other sources - ensuring that it aligns with the destination format so that it is consistent throughout is not always clear.

**What do you like best about Workiva?**

I really like how the UI makes it easy to collaborate with others directly within the software, even when we’re all fully remote. Being able to leave comments is a big help, especially when there are several reviewers and everyone’s feedback needs to be integrated into one cohesive version. Workiva’s performance feels unmatched among its peers. Their support team is also top-notch, whether I’m working with XBRL, Customer Success, or Account Management. I also appreciate that they’re starting to branch into AI functionality, but in a way that doesn’t feel too invasive.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

There are few downsides to using Workiva since it’s top of its class, but it also comes with top-of-class pricing, which needs to be considered when evaluating any software. It would be nice if integrations with our ERP and close management software were also a bit more budget-friendly.

**What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?**

By incorporating AI into the software, it helps us ensure our language doesn’t become stale from period to period. It provides insight into cutting-edge disclosure and also offers best practices that we can apply. As I mentioned previously, the ability to collaborate is the main reason to choose Workiva, and the support team is outstanding.

**What do you like best about Workiva?**

I like that the new features and tools in Workiva are easy to figure out when they're rolled out. The formatting buttons feel natural because they're very similar to what we're familiar with in Microsoft products like Excel and Word. This familiarity saves me a ton of time since I'm not having to search for functions—I already know how to do it. It's very valuable to save time during reporting seasons by focusing on the work needed rather than being frustrated looking for formatting options. I love the software and it's vital to our everyday use. It's essential for financial reporting, disclosures, and other reporting, and it solves our issues of consistency by linking numbers throughout our 10-Ks, 10-Qs, and other press release reports.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

Using 'connections' to other workspaces is usually quite clunky for us. We only connect once a year and when we have to do it, it seems like something about the functionality has changed so we are starting from scratch each year.

**What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Workiva solves consistency issues in reports by linking numbers across documents, and its familiar features save time during reporting season.

**What do you like best about Workiva?**

Lets my team and me edit the same document in real time, so no version-control headaches, just smooth, synchronized collaboration.

The XBRL integration is a lifesaver during crunch time; regulatory filings that once felt daunting are now almost routine.

I use Wdesk several times a day, and its stability means I rarely worry about crashes or lost work.

It has robust access-permission settings that allow me share sensitive documents confidently, ensuring only the right eyes see the right data.

Customer support has been stellar; whenever I get stuck, clear and timely guidance gets me back on track fast.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

Steep learning curve: mastering advanced linking, tagging, and navigation still takes me a lot of trial and error, and onboarding required outside consulting help.

Interface overwhelm: the UI feels cluttered with lots of clicks in and out of windows, so quick edits don’t feel as intuitive as other tools (e.g. Google Docs).

The 'processes' and 'tasks' functionality is very basic for our needs. It only allows one preparer and one reviewer but sometimes we have multiple levels of review. Additionally, it does allow a review to re-assign the task or add comments as to why they reject or deny a task. 

While I value the functionality, the increasing subscription costs are becoming harder to justify, especially for smaller budgets or lighter use-cases.

While the support reps are great, I’d rely on them less if the manuals and tutorials were more more detailed.

**What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It funnels ERP and other data into one secure hub, wiping out manual re-entry and spreadsheet chaos.
Real-time collaboration and built-in audit trails cut errors and speed up month- and quarter-end closes.
Automated workflows and strong controls boost confidence in SEC, financial, and ESG reports while slashing compliance risk.
Overall, what used to be a stressful, error-prone process is now faster, more accurate, and far less of a headache.
