Top Rated Stream Alternatives

The SDK was super simple to set up, and we were able to use the React components to spin up our live chat feature extremely quickly. It was one of the quickest integrations with a third-party provider that we've had. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Overall, I've been very pleased. One challenge we did have was around version upgrades. Stream could do a bit better providing a "changelog" between version upgrades that would make it a bit easier. From a product perspective though, the stability and performance have been ideal - no issues there. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Stream's Chat API has been super helpful for Dealer-FX, making it easy our customers to connect and communicate better. We were able to build a really simple, but customized communication platform using Stream's flexible API that supports direct messaging and group chats. This integration has been really important in keeping 90% of our users engaged. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
We're pretty happy with Stream and all the benefits it's brought to our operations, but we feel like we could be getting even more out of it. It would be awesome if we could get more proactive guidance on how to use all of Stream's features, especially some of the more advanced stuff like slash command updates, AI chat, or voice and video chat options. If we could hear about best practices and cool ways other industries are using Stream, that would really help us unlock some new communication capabilities on our platform. For the most part, it's been quite easy to implement Stream in our mobile apps and integrate with some associated internal services. It worked out-of-the-box for the vast majority of our needs, and it's been pretty flexible for some unique use cases in our business. The API and SDK documentation has overall been thorough, accurate, and easy to consume. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Our team has encountered a couple bugs, both transparently in the SDK and more opaquely in the platform. For example, some unknown change in their platform caused images in our app to miss their CDN for an extended period of time. Their support/success managers are usually quick with an intial response, but often need to involve technical team members with, unsurpisingly, less expedient communication. Stream is feature rich with a great development environment.
The Technical and Support Staff are very good.
The end result is a well integrated Chat System that supports FamilySearch and our yearly RootsTech Conference. We had over 600,000 messages sent in Feb. 2024. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Some issues arose, but resolved promptly by the Stream Chat team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Our migration to Stream went off without a hitch.
Integration was really easy.
The Stream team was very helpful during integration to help us implement our tech.
When we flipped the switch to migrate, it went off without a hitch.
Operations have been super easy since - we haven't had any issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
No real issues so far. The tech has been good, and the Stream people have been great! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I've been using stream chat for over a year and can share some of my 1st-year experience and why I chose Stream Chat for my app. What attracted me initially was the list of features and the price point, which were reasonable and scalable. Five nines availability, GDPR and HIPAA compliance, TS React client and UI library, updates and an active GitHub community were all ticks on my checklist. If you've never built a chat app before, this is an excellent place to start with plenty of support docs and videos you can find on YOutube. Using Stream Chat has been a positive learning experience for me. If you're learning and are comfortable with HTML/CSS but new to Javascript or a framework like React, the documentation is excellent at teaching how to customise the app while building your MVP. It's also free for makers so it really lowers the barriers, to turn ideas and concepts into products and features. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
So far, so good. In some cases, I've had to dissect and customise the code for my own use for improved performance and new features, but that was expected due to all the features supported in the provided SDK and UI components. My only wish is there was some sort of Discord or Slack community where users could support each other. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Easy to configure and the ability to customize the widget and create faces of teammates is very nice. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I haven't experienced any significant drawbacks. My experience with the app has been very good. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Stream.IO can improve the process to communicate new functionalities. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

We've had a very positive experience with Stream chat, starting with the experience we've had with their support team, that were very responsive, and even agreed to further support us while in beta prior to our initial public release. The front-end SDK is also very handy, as our engineering team made the most of that and didn't have to code everything from scratch. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Even though the team graciously agreed on extending our trial period, we ended up having to pay for the subscription for a couple of months while we were still in development. Also, the Figma UI kit feels a bit outdated. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I'm not aware of any specific issues with Stream Chat, but as with any software, there may be bugs or compatibility issues that arise. It's always a good idea to thoroughly test any software before deploying it in a production environment. Additionally, it's important to keep the SDK and dependencies up to date to ensure that any known issues have been resolved. If you do encounter an issue while using Stream Chat, you can reach out to the Stream Chat support team for assistance. They may be able to help you troubleshoot and resolve the problem. We have used Stream for the last 6 months to power our chat messaging. It was really helpful to get the standard chat messaging features integrated into our user experience. Our users were delighted to see chat messaging get added quickly with all of the standard features like ... for typing, reactions to messages, threaded replies and editing of messages. Stream Chat takes a bit of leg work from our engineering team to register the user in Stream. The data is hosted on Stream instead of our database so it requires our APIs to speak with each other. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
