SP Intranet Portal Pros and Cons

Not sure if this is just from our organization, but the organization of departments through "Collaboration Hubs" is not intuitive for the user and requires a lot of click throughs to actually arrive at the landing page for the specific department you are trying to access. I've worked with Sharepoint on 3 different occasions with 3 different companies, and though it provides the ability to customize the portal as we see fit, developing within the system as well as hiring 3rd party providers from the marketplace is an expensive and arduous chore.
