Presenting designs in typical 2D parallel projections can be hard to visualize a space, especially if you aren't used to looking at construction drawings. With Sketchup, I can create a single model that can be used in the Schematic Design phase, Design Development, to Construction Drawings without sacrificing effiency

For example, I present in 3D. Once a client is satisfied with the design, I can use the same model to generate accurate 2D construction drawings in layout to be used by various trades for estimating and material take-offs and to satisfy permitting requirements. The only downside is that it hasn't been widely adopted in the Architectural and Construction fields; AutoCAD still fills that space, although Sketchup could easily dominate if it were appropriately marketed to that specific field. Most people know Sketchup; many use it for presentation but use AutoCAD for Construction Drawings. This is due to them not being aware or familiar with Layout, which is crucial if you're using it to produce construction drawings. The ease with which you can start modeling in Sketchup is an amazing feature as compared to the BIM modeling platforms. It gives a good flow to the ideas. The materiality, color, tags feature are all very user-friendly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The fact that the surfaces merge together when ungrouped and it's hard to detect what's going wrong, why is the surface not coming in is frustrating. If we have some error detection, it can be one of the most helpful tool. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I find that SketchUp is very user-friendly and easy to learn. Being a graphic designer, I like the design of the tools and functionality. Plus, I rely mainly on Google and Youtube for tutorials and training, and there seems to be a vast resource of developers producing good training. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Two features seem to be missing.

1. You cannot add animated objects to your project unless you install a 3rd party plugin.

2. I can't add a video to projects; for example, if I have a TV in my project, I can't make it look like it's on. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

While Sketchup is intuitive to use, to use it successfully the workshop/ training is imperative to watch. They cover a lot of info in those videos that wouldn't otherwise be assumed. So it's a bit difficult to be able to jump right in with the expectation of immediately doing accurate modeling Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
