Easy to use compared to other programming apps. It has a helpful link to where all the tools and they’re functions are explained so I can easily explain it to my students Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Shows were you made a mistake in your program but doesn’t clearly show how to correct that mistake in order for your information to run Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
1. SAS is excellent for dealing with (many) large datasets; I often work with datasets with over 1 million records and my code runs very quickly. 2. While it's not open forum, there's also a ton of resources for learning SAS such as the SAS Community website where a user can ask a very specific question and members respond with sample code to help you get the output you're seeking. 3. When you make a mistake coding, trying to make sense of the issue is pretty straightforward by reading the log. 4.Everything is validated before making it to the product. This is the benefit of it being close-source. I find this especially helpful for statistical work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There is a learning curve with coding and the language itself is a little clunky; competitive products such as R can often do some of the same tasks but with more efficient syntax (i.e., ten lines in SAS to do a task can be the equivalent of two or three in R). Then again, SAS also offers SAS EG with has a point-and-click interface. SAS is also an expensive product; the cost can be a barrier for many organizations searching for a data management and/or statistical analysis tool. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
SAS/STAT provides leading edge analytical capabilities. It gives you tremendous power to clean, manipulate, and analyze large data sets. Good error detection process. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
SAS is very costly. There is a bit of a learning curve to grasp the programming language and it's library system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The proc language and ease of learning how to program Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The language is sas specific and data visualizations can be improved e.g forest plots and KM curves Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Base SAS is a good entry-level application for new analysts. Its biggest advantages are the excellent online help system and dedicated customer support it provides on even the smallest aspect of the tool. Also, Base SAS works very well for simple data manipulations, exploratory data analysis and bi-variate analysis, although building complex models is not possible. Building complex machine learning models requires an upgrade to SAS-Stat. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
SAS applications (including Base SAS) are costly to implement and deploy. SAS usually take a fair amount of time to add new algorithms related to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (vis-a-vis open-source platforms). Also, SAS is not very user friendly or intuitive to use compared to Python or R. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I like that there are multiple ways to code for the same output, as well as how the output is displayed initially. Trial and error typically resolves any issues. There are also many opportunities to redesign output to suite your audience, whether that be adding different variable labels, changing colors, fonts, ect. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
For me personally, programming is not intuitive but at the same time it is great that there are so many resources available for learning SAS coding that make the process easier. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
SAS/STAT is very helpful in delivery of monthly reports in form of statistics which makes more convenient for delivering the appropriate results to the client and we can easily use that stats for further presentation and as a document for further information if ever required in future. There is nothing which I dislike about SAS/STATS till my work experience. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
SAS stat has many predefined statistical tests which you can use to test your hypothesis. It is easy to follow and learn Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Expensive tool to get.Needs to create online content on the usage of the product. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
In SAS, there can be multiple ways to accomplish the same outcome. Different programmers can use their own preferred techniques to accomplish the same thing. It's relatively straight forward so that even new programmers can come from a non-programming background and quickly pick up the basics. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Sometimes it's difficult to find the exact syntax to solve an advanced program and the SAS documentation does not go far enough with examples. I mostly turn to user conference papers and presentations to help solve thorny scenarios. The other primary issue I face when searching for solutions is that it's difficult to search for a a particular version. Sometimes I find an answer (found by searching the SAS documentation on their website) and then realize the solution provided only applies to a particular version and not the version of SAS I'm currently using. But it's not immediately evident how to limit searches to the version I want. If there's a way to do that, it's not obvious to me and so I haven't employed it in my searches. The large library of inbuilt procedures which make writing codes much easier. Also making models to predict the business outcomes is amazing Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It is a bit on the expensive side because there are other tools like R which is free Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
