CTools is very helpful and easy to use. I like the multiple uses and organizational structure. I believe the uses for it are very relevant to schools and colleges. I believe that while it doesn't look the best, the uses are still very real. I've never had any huge problems with CTools, I trust it to work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I dislike the look, it needs to look better. Also more collaborative options like MBox or Google Drive. That would've really helped during capstone classes. I would like easier options for uploading submissions. In addition, the forums are good, but need to be improved by being easier to access - maybe with arrows to have them be accessible instead of going to a new page. I really don't like how when I try to right click something to bring it in a new tab, it doesn't show up right and isn't helpful. Like - if I am right clicking on an article my professor posted, the actual article won't open in the new tab it will just take me to an uglier page of the one I was originally trying to click on. Hopefully in newer versions, CTools will update and look better. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I think it is as complete as an online platform can be for providing all the requirements associated to the education process. It is also adaptable to many external tools and it always keeps evolving. There's a great community that can help you to solve to every problem you face. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Maybe the learning curve is quite big for new developers and also probably there's a lack of information about the possibilities of the product to the general user. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It's nice to have access to things like grades and lecture slides, and the test center is really nice for online homework. Everything is all in one place Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I'm not sure if this is just a setting determined by professors, but I wish the gradebook function would calculate our grades as we go. I have used another product that allowed me to see what my grade is at any point in time as well as enter in possible future grades to get an idea of where I'm at. You can organize tabs to preference by class, club etc. I liked that all class pages had the same format so you could easily find grades, quizzes, and forum boards. It was also a good way to communicate with professors other students. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Hard to find some essential tools like deleting a tab. Have experience using moodle and blackboard and would rate moodle as the best and sakai in the middle. Did not like that continual maintenance being done to the site. It is also looks a little outdated. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The discussion board options and assignment uploads in Sakai were pretty great (as were the reminders to get things in). A professor being able to email their entire class through Sakai also likely saved them a lot of time. The class roster being included also helped get a scope of who your classmates would be. Having moved from Blackboard into Sakai, at first I found the user interface to be a little bit clunky and non-intuitive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What I like the most is how easy Sakai is to use. The layout in general is very intuitive, and makes it easy to access information. I feel confident that even people with relatively low internet literacy could figure out how to use the system. I also used it for my student group to upload relevant files and information and I found that very effective for a period of time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There are a few features that aren't intuitive. Namely, the features located in "My Workspace" like the calendar function, etc. They could be used way more effectively. Adding information to your calendar isn't easy (you probably should just be able to click on the grid and go from there). It'd also be great if, like GMail or similar features, it could detect due dates for assignments posted in our accounts and add them automatically. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Sakai has a great open source philosophy, and can be used to make very versatile products to manage course needs. As either a student or instructor, it's nice to have everything in one place related to coursework, grades, etc.
It's not fancy but it gets the job done. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The user interface needs lot of improvement. It is outdated and very frustrating at times. It is difficult to navigate and is missing basic expectations like the ability to 'go back' easily.
It is cumbersome and difficult to enter grades since ctools does not allow you to have more than 1 tab open at a time.
The forums functionality could be improved, since you can write posts and comment on posts, but it is not easy to share images and multimedia. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Coursework is useful to get info from professors and have everything organized in one place. Honestly, not a professor or a businessperson using the product, so can't say for sure from the administrator perspective. For students, we sort of just use it and it's fine, but no one is obsessed with it Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Coursework could be more user-friendly and easy to navigate. Logs people out extremely quickly Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
In principle Sakai is a good idea for education and classroom management. The ability to organize content in folders, customized access permissions for individual students, manage tests and grading are all good features. However, the execution leaves much to be desired. The interface is poor. For example, if you navigate away from a page while creating an assignment, all work on the page is lost. This is particularly frustrating when the forward/back button is hit inadvertently (or in my case when I use command+back_arrow to jump to the beginning of a sentence and the system interprets this as a back-page command). The interface is tedious -- takes numerous clicks to achieve what should be possible within 1-2 clicks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Sakai is very user-friendly. The newest of users can figure easily a setup for a new course, and an experienced user can use it to the full potential. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The possibilities of Sakai are endless (a good thing), but that can feel overwhelming at first. I recommend a good connection to another Sakai user to get started. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
