Top Rated Rudder Alternatives

Rudder is very easy to install and setup with a basic configuration set.
The Audit mode is a killer feature, and thanks to the clean webgui you have a clear dashboard to know what you have to fix.
API is also usefull if you want to automate some tasks and plug it to another tool (like Ansible to perform some tasks).
Moreover, the agent node has a very light footprint on the nodes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Be carefull when writing complex techniques and directives, as it can lead to some headache.
I use Rudder for continuous configuration once servers are deployed. I tried using it for deploy nodes from scratch, but there are better tools for that use case.
It would be nice to edit techniques directly from CLI. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Rudder provides a very intuitive user interface with comprehensive data governance features. It adds emphasis on collaboration and integration with existing tools along with scalable performance Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The lack of extensive reporting and analytics capabilities hinder its use for deeper insights along with limited customization options for user roles and permissions Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It reduces and organizes my time in IT infrastructure when I am managing all the processes related to the company. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Greater breadth is needed in the system to encompass greater security and management in the companies that use it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Certification and training courses for teams does not happen throughout the year - resulting in delayed onboardings. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

With Rudder we are able to maintain a global overview of critical infrastructure and reassure our customers that we are in control constantly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
So far the only thing i "dislike" and it's a minor in comparison to the time we save, is the configuration editor would love a more visual editor with a flow like interface. Think node red as an example. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I can use Rudder to break the communication barriers I normally have to deal with in IT.
Normally, there's "the technical stuff" and "the stuff management needs". Both are distractions from each other and fixing one doesn't solve the other at all.
With Rudder I can easily show non-admins what's working, what we need to do, and they can digest that information to a complete understanding. Project managers, bosses and beginners can understand what's happening. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I would like it to be easier to file away what I built, in a sanitized version. I hope for more interfaces to other tools (i.e. there's an ansible plugin, I would love to use that as an an exporter so I don't have to ever build ansible code again).

It is also a bit "too much" for very small setups. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There are many reasons to choose Rudder for implementing an excellent quality of services. First of all, for creating and dynamically updating groups of machines based on their inventory. Thus, we can create a node group of a certain distribution, containing some packages in a certain ip range for example. On these dynamic groups, it is possible to create a directive composed of a series of generic methods (creation of a directory, modification of a line, rebooting of a service etc.). For example, about thirty of these small bricks (generic methods) have allowed us to transform our installation and maintenance procedures of our internal wiki into rules in Rudder. The intuitive interface allows us to quickly see the quality of our compliance with our rules across our entire IT. Changes to these rules always require a multi-person workflow process to be validated and deployed in production. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
At the ergonomics level, we sometimes get lost between certain notions of general methods, directives, techniques and rules. The concept of rule is powerful because different directives can be applied for certain groups and not for others. And another rule may also contain some of these directives associated with other groups. But in use for more practice we often make a rule for a directive. So it's a lot of clicks for a single directive in a single rule. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Rudder has a large number of features to manage all configurations of an operating system or application.
Its clear and intuitive web interface makes it easy to manage and organize all configurations items.
The highest added value of the product is the concept of continuous compliance. Managed through dashboards and detailed reports, this one guarantees the application of our continuous configurations on all our resources.
The Rest API is also very useful for connecting Rudder with third-party tools.
The team behind this project is very awesome. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
By design, we can not control the execution order of tasks in a compliance and sometimes the goal can not be reach the first time. In this case you just have to execute compliance a second to reach 100% of desire state. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
At ITsense we strongly support open source project and Rudder has always been a tool with tremendous potential. First of all, Rudder is very easy to instal an deploy; the user interface is cleverly designed and they provide a full documentation to help you get started (we do apreciate that they have translated it).
In addition we appreciate the codeless user interface with build-in template library.
At last, Rudder can manage quite everything (only HP-UX and iOS don't have their own agent version), everything else is available already. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
So few people in the community. Even though it's growing, it's hard for Rudder to compete against giants ( such as Puppet for instance). Also it can be difficult to use before understanding how it works. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Rudder has by far the lowest learning curve across configuration management tools on the market. Once the server side is deployed, installing and pluging in agents is a breeze.
Where other tools force you to learn fancy implemented DSL, brand new functionnal languages or specific YAML syntaxes, Rudder let's you create your management rules in a very graphical way that your whole team will be able to adapt to very quickly and easily.
The graphical reporting let's you quickly access the compliance of your whole infrastructure.
The integrated inventory, can easily be queried from the integrated API to let you programmatically populate other internal tools - Big plus when having to integrate 3rd party corporate tools. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The graphical interface - almost only - can sometimes be less flexible than what could be provided.
Luckily the Rudder devs are working on that point with the integrated technique editor.
It needs some easier way to plug shared-files with external Git repositories to make admin life easier. Git push to deploy modifications also makes sense. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
