What do you like best about Rockset?

Rockset is easy to set up and configure. There is no need to set up manual indexes or any of that complicated database mumbo jumbo to get rockset to go FAST. Scaling vertically is very easy and fast all you need to do is select a larger virtual instance size and the database scales up instantly. Rockset support is also exceptional and helped me regularly understand best practices while using rockset and how to get the most out of my rockset cloud instance subscription.

I use rockset every day at work. working with their query lambdas and using the rockset api through the javascript sdk makes it easy to integrate it with other systems. Their native support for kafka streams and realtime transformations from the same makes it very easy to ingest large datasets from realtime sources. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Rockset?

Although rockset it very simple to operate, if you have very specific requirements that need you to do highly optimized queries on a table, it doesnt have the flexibility to optimise for that. This is really a nit pick, I personally think it is good for most OLAP use cases right out of the box. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Rockset solving and how is that benefiting you?

Before rockset, we used to use a regular OLTP database for running complicated segmentation, aggregation and ad hoc queries at work. This used to cause the entire production database to choke, the queries would take upwards of multiple minutes and the user experience for our clients would degrade when a batch ran or when somebody ran a large query. We realised we needed a copy of our data within an OLAP instead and we tried out clickhouse. Although Clickhouse is a potent OLAP our engineering team could not see a large benefit from moving over to Clickhouse because they were not familiar with the complicated database optimisation that have to be manually managed with Clickhouse. Finally we switched to Rockset and in just a plug and play fashin, the batches and large queries ran fast and in under a second for most of our previous test cases. What do you like best about Rockset?

I really liked the interface and the suggestions that we will get when writing the query. Mostly I liked the cache part, when we can get the results in milli seconds if the query is already executed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Rockset?

The app is not available in mobile version. Some times when there is production issue and I wanted to execute something in mobile because im out of office, we can't open it in mobile ro execute the query and send to teammates. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Rockset solving and how is that benefiting you?

It's solving the most of the disadvantages that we have in NoSql databases like cosmos database, mongo database and more. We are using noSQL data bases in our organisation so that it can be integrated to codebase really quick. And then we are exporting it to Rockset so that we can visualise the data in tables. Not only that, we see that it is easy to query and get thousands of tables in milliseconds. It actually takes some more time in cosmos database and querying is somewhat difficult in noSQL. What do you like best about Rockset?

- Let's us dream bigger - adding analytics / reporting features to our product is a breeze with Rockset

- Incredibly easy to set up and get started

- Queries just work and are pretty fast out of the box

- Customer Support has been fantastic, team has been very supportive even of a "small fish" like us

- Very stable even in their "shared" environment, "rock"-solid consistency and uptime Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Rockset?

For a small operation like hours, the cost of dedicated instances is pretty high (~$250/month), and we can't take advantage of amazing features like ingest isolation or query autoscaling without hitting this bar. The "Milli" shared instance experience has been fine for us so far, but I can always dream of more.

The SQL editor was ahead of its time in 2022 but now writing SQL in 2024 without AI copilot feels like a chore!! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Rockset solving and how is that benefiting you?

We use Rockset as a secondary index for our primary DynamoDB tables and route aggregations, joins and scan-intensive reporting queries through Rockset. As our team has grown more comfortable with Rockset, it's also become our go-to for internal prototyping, internal tools and ad hoc data analysis. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Rockset?

I've been using Rockset for a few years now and I'm honestly suprised at how few issues I've had with it. I basically set it up and have barely had to check-in on it which is very impressive. Myself and the other engineers really like the query lambda function and how they are version controlled. It's also very fast and able to handle many queries at the same time which our data warehouse isn't built to do. We use it to compliment our data warehouse for embedded analytics for our customers. Customer support has been awesome as well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Rockset?

Not a dislike but I want to make clear that I don't believe Rockset is a replacement for a traditional data warehouse. Instead, I believe it would replace setting up a streaming architecture with tools like Kafka or Kinesis. The only thing I can say is I wish you didn't have to be on a certain tier to get autoscaling capability. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Rockset?

Rockset excels at the essentials of being a warehouse with surprisingly easy setup. I have appreciated using scheduled query lambdas to do things inside of Rockset like rollups, as well as perodically push out data.

The query editor is also intuitive and effective, it is very useful to build and procure ad-hoc reports. I use Rockset daily to work on both larger projects and integrations, or just to answer quick questions that we ask of our data.

Customer support is quick, knowledgeable, and takes feature requests seriously. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Rockset?

Managing collections can be clumsy at times, there is essentially no editing of existing collections, if you need to change anyhting about the bones of a collection like its name or folder, you must delete and recrate the collection. You can reasonably change the contents of collections with queries, but you must start over to change an ingest rule. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Rockset solving and how is that benefiting you?

Rockset is now our data warehouse, it allows us to clean up all the junk and keep data in one nice place, accessible with one query editor. It is a recoginized platform by other services, allowing those services interact with it, making data to flow to various destinations like a CRM. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Rockset?

The product is very good. The queries are fast, the API is mature and growing, features such as the Query Lambdas are fantastic and integration options are solid. Above all, the service and assistance from the Rockset team is fantastic, they hold regular meetings and provide valuable technical assistance to optimizing queries and storage to tweek further the performance. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Rockset?

The only downside is the compute model and pricing. We pay for a dedicated instance while most of the time there are no queries being executed. Having a compute model similar to Serverless or something where you actually pay for what you use would be fantastic. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Rockset solving and how is that benefiting you?

We have large scientific and medial conference and run all our Analytics on top of Rockset. Instead of managing all of that ourselves, Rockset really helps us by providing a state-of-the-art API and services for Analytics so we can focus on the queries and they can execute and scale them. What do you like best about Rockset?

I've been using Rockset for over a year now, and things that have worked well for me are the user-interface, the creation of sql queries and the scalability when there are heavier queries.

I've reached out to customer support twice, and they've been prompt and helpful. I've also not experienced any downtime in my working hours which is great product stability wise

My overall experience has been great Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Rockset?

I have been using Rockset for data visualization in my daily SQL consulting tasks, and overall, it has proven to be a powerful and efficient tool for my needs. The platform's seamless integration with SQL queries has significantly enhanced my ability to analyze and visualize data, making it an invaluable asset in my day-to-day job. The customer support provided by Rockset is commendable, particularly the quick and responsive assistance available via chat. Having reliable and efficient customer support is crucial in ensuring that any issues or queries are addressed promptly, and Rockset delivers on this front. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Rockset?

There are a few SQL functions that are not currently supported by the tool. While the existing capabilities cover a broad range of functions, the absence of certain SQL functions may pose limitations for users with specific requirements. It would be beneficial for Rockset to prioritize expanding its support for a wider array of SQL functions to cater to the diverse needs of users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Rockset solving and how is that benefiting you?

Rockset solves real-time data analysis challenges for my SaaS company, facilitating scalable and high-performance processing of large datasets. Its user-friendly interface streamlines SQL consultations, aiding in efficient data extraction and visualization. As our main tool for data delivery, Rockset's responsive customer support ensures minimal downtime. Despite its strengths, the tool could benefit from expanding its support for additional SQL functions to better meet our evolving needs. Overall, Rockset enhances our ability to provide timely, visually compelling insights to customers in a rapidly changing SaaS environment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Rockset?

- Rockset has a great developer tooling with query lambdas, a robust API and metrics/charts to understand performance.

- The fact that it automatically indexes everything in 3 different ways saves a ton of time for us that we'd otherwise need to spend building indexes ourselves.

- has great additional commands to complement standard sql like UNNEST

- Engineers and Support at Rockset are very helpful in answering any questions that may come up and are always willing to jump on a call to debug performance or discuss an issue Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Rockset?

- Definitely needs a tree view for looking at data and especially nested data so one doesn't need to scroll horizontally as much Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Rockset solving and how is that benefiting you?

It's replacing our existing ETL pipeline which has a ton of transformation logic. We can instead do the transformations in sql at query time to simplify our overall pipeline and

improve our ingestion throughput and query latency.

Tracing down errors is much faster in this new architecture and there is no need to manage a vast array of transformation repos Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Rockset?

We do not have to transform our denormalized document data into a normalized state for relational databases. We can pass our single-table design Dynamo tables straight into Rockset, with a minimal time delay (usually 1-2 seconds), and then do complex SQL queries. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Rockset?

Our document structure sometimes needs a sub-object to be returned. It would be great if we can simply do "SELECT OBJECT(t1.*) as subObject ..." instead of typing every single field that we need in the sub-object. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Rockset solving and how is that benefiting you?

We use Rockset for list pages where we have complex filters to be set, with sorting and pagination. We also use Rockset for quick analytics (small reports) that need near real-time data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
