Quip Overview

What is Quip?

Quip is a team collaboration solution which combines document and spreadsheet creation and editing with chat and commenting capabilities, to allow teams to communicate about tasks and projects directly while working on them. Quip enables users to create and edit documents, spreadsheets, and checklists collaboratively in real time, through the ‘Smart Inbox’ interface, with the ability to filter and star documents to speed up searching. Document revisions are stored so users can track changes, and annotations can be added to spreadsheets and documents. Finished tasks can be checked off on the checklist, keeping all team members informed of which tasks have been completed. Rather than communicating by email, users can chat directly within a document, with inbuilt 1:1 personal messaging and the ability to comment on any content. @mentions also allow users to direct teammates to individual spreadsheet cells, or insert items such as images and code into documents. User-controlled notifications keep team members updated on any messages or mentions. Quip works across desktop and mobile, with native iOS and Android apps, and with offline functionality, users can work on documents on the go, with changes being updated whenever there is an internet connection.

What do you like best about Quip?

Shows which user edited which fragment of the document and when. Has all the main document editing features you need. With each text body showing a timestamp and user of last edit, it makes it easy to create simple docs with collaboration. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Quip?

Quip, compared to google docs or word, is very advanced in terms of the structuring you can do, insertion of tables, links, and attachments. Sharing is also easy, and comments can also be added at every line to discuss the document in detail with anyone in your team. Quip is also used in daily huddles to review tasks, assign tasks and take followups. You can also assign a atask to a team mate and take updates on the task from the comments section without making the document bulky. While making a SOW or a documentation for a integration the comments feature is helpful as corrections or clarity on points can be sought without making the document a mess. What do you dislike about Quip?

Sometimes quip docs with multiple attachments and links get bulky and are difficult to load. Hence it is best to split a document into two separate quip docs. Other issues faced are mostly with exporting into PDFs, which sometimes is tricky in case the Quip document is bulky. Also the old version of the document which are displayed or the changes made by the user which show on the right of the document are a bit tricky to nagivate, the UI of this could be a bit better. Recommendations to others considering Quip:

Initially, it may seem a bit overwhelming with the number of options available on quip; most people using quip might have used Google Docs or Word, so not all the elements and functions are the same, but it will get better with usage. Start simple; use only the very basic options first; once you get the hang of it, you can use the others. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Quip solving and how is that benefiting you?

Quip is now being used in the company for all documentation purposes, this includes making documents for all issues or intergration that are currenlty being done. Quip is also being used for reation of SOW documents which need a lot of collaboration with multiple departments and team mates, so currenlty in the work from home environment with Quip these are very easy to make, edit and use. We are also using Quip to make and sharing of Training Modules Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Quip?

I've been using Quip for close to three years now and it continues to amaze me with the ease in notetaking as well as organizing my files for future reference. What also stands out with Quip is how easy it is to find notes that I didn't take a few days ago, but how easy it is to find those that I put together a year or two ago. The biggest problem that we have solved is keeping everyone on our team in the loop with items previously discussed. In today's hectic world, it's easy to forget certain things that have been talked about in meetings or timelines that have been put together. With Quip, those concerns have been diminished. What do you like best about Quip?

I was resistant to using Quip at my latest position since I came from the world of Slack and had gotten so used to that format and layout. However, once I got used to Quip and used it more often, I began to see the benefits it had to offer in terms of project tracking and attaching various documents Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Quip?

The one thing that always annoys me is the amount of margin is wasted, pushing the content so far to the right with all this blank space. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

We had a very large project we did that consisted of three partners, tens of thousands of dollars, and dozens of deliverables... all of which were tracked in a Quip project tracker spreadsheet. The event was a success and we owe a lot of that to Quip Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Quip?

The collaboration tools are quite robust and I also like and appreciate that you can view documents online or on the desktop app. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Quip?

Viewing docs on my mobile phone can be a bit of a chore. I'd also like to see more security protocols. The editing/word processing tools aren't as robust as some other tools on the market, but they are more than enough for what is needed for internal communications and collaborative docs. What problems is Quip solving and how is that benefiting you?

At my employer, there is a frequent need to collaborate with my coworkers on word processing-based documents. The tools of choice are typically either Google Docs or Quip and Quip is a better user experience hands down. There is better version control, when multiple users are in a document simultaneously, as well as the added utility of having the ability to compose on the web or on the desktop application. The word processing tools are not as robust as, say, a Microsoft Word, but I like the cleanness and simplicity of the interface, and Quip has most of the tools that I need in getting an internal document out and getting feedback on it. I also appreciate how you can drag and drop mixed media into the composer. I find myself doing that quite often. It's very easy to share a Quip doc with others and for them to provide comments. What do you like best about Quip?

The sync is really fast and the UI is simple and minimalistic. Sharing it with a large no of people or keeping it privately is very useful and effective. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Formatting text is not that easy. Formatting text should be looked into and improve. Also, opening multiple pages at once in form of a tab can be really useful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
