What do you like best about Polarion?

The UI/UX is very appealing and clear. The configurations are very easy to understand and set up. The update policy (twice per year) is very good. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Polarion?

The functionality is limited in the out-of-the-box solution. Extensions (Multilevel Traceability Widget etc.) are absolutely necessary for diligent work with the tool. The query capabilities are inadequate (e.g., not filterable by explicit link roles - only via SQL). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Polarion solving and how is that benefiting you?

The functionality is limited in the out-of-the-box solution. Extensions (Multilevel Traceability Widget, etc.) are essential for diligent work with the tool. For an ALM solution, some functions are insufficient and need to be expanded with paid extensions. The query capabilities are inadequate (e.g., not filterable by explicit link roles - only via SQL). Polarion's customer support can have quite lengthy response times, and the proposed solutions often fail to effectively address or resolve the underlying issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Polarion?

Polarion can be used universally for almost all processes and process models (A-SPICE, CMMI, DO-*, GMP, GAMP, ISO9001, ...) in product, system and software development and beyond. Unfortunately, when purchasing ALM software, the focus is usually on development. If you don't have a good consultant at your side, you won't use the ALM tool to its full potential and neglect areas such as operational risk management, lessons learned, team management or customer management.

In a recent conversation, someone said to me that Polarion is like a speedboat. What he actually wanted to tell me is that Polarion can be used for the first projects within a few hours (less than 8 hours for OnPrem installation). Of course, Polarion can also be installed in the company cloud or on a server on the Internet.

Polarion is customizable to the processes in the company.

Areas of application:

# Product, system and software development with agile (SCRUM/Kanban) or classic methods

# Operational quality management as part of a framework such as ISO 9001

# Team organization

# Operational risk management / risk management for the development projects takes place directly in the project

# Lessons learned

# Standard and norms

# Customer management

Areas of application in the project:

Across the entire process world from requirements engineering and test management to problem and change management, release management, planning, task management and much more.

I would also like to say a few words about the support from Siemens regarding Polarion. From my point of view as a consultant and customer, I would sometimes wish for better support. But this is complaining at a very high level. As a consultant, I have come across many other manufacturers where the support was much worse.

We use Polarion ALm on a daily basis, both in-house and with our customers. We operate and maintain systems at the customer's premises. We advise customers on processes, methods and customizations. We are not locusts, but we can implement everything we advise in a corresponding order. The architecture here is based on a number of open quasi-standards and is very easy to maintain. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Polarion?

Polarion ALM is definitely not a substitute for a PLM system. Of course, suitable PLM systems can be connected.

Gaps / weaknesses of Polarion are the multiple project management in the classical sense and the resource management over a large number of projects like MS Project does. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Polarion solving and how is that benefiting you?

The Navi8 Consulting team is spread out and communication and a uniform view of the data was not easy.

With the Siemens Polarion ALM software, we have a central point of contact where all data can be accessed by all employees. Thanks to task management, tasks can be clearly delegated and the author is notified of any changes.

Collaboration on company topics such as the installation of an operational quality management system such as ISO9001 can also be easily implemented.

Polarion ALM always adapts to the needs of Navi8. It can be used equally in product, system and software development and also as an inter-company risk management or lessons-learned system.

For us, Siemens Polarion ALM is a tool for many different tasks and activities. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Yolanda Dong of Polarion

What do you like best about Polarion?

Already realized productivity improvements through enhanced collaboration, traceability, and reuse of information. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Polarion?

Like any tool, the numerous configurable options can be overwhelming when starting your journey with Polarion. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Polarion solving and how is that benefiting you?

The complexity of today's product development is such that you cannot handle requirements with spreadsheets. Even if you theoretically could, there is no point in doing so. No one should have a role where a significant portion of their time and effort goes into manually updating spreadsheet information and especially references to other information.

The true power of Polarion comes when you easily connect requirements, test cases, risks, documents, project planning, cybersecurity, management systems, sales feedback, change management, product architecture, etc., all within the same tool. When everyone uses the same tool, it effectively eliminates the need for the download-change-upload cycle and allows people to truly collaborate.

When you reach the limits of Polarion in MBSE, you can extend your modeling using connectors to tools like Simulink or Capella. PLM integration can be done using OSLC, REST API, or dedicated connectors. We have even created our own connection to ChatGPT.

One of the significant benefits is the productivity improvement you gain when you stop blindly copying information from place to place and instead connect information using links. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Yolanda Dong of Polarion

Tommi, it's great to hear how Polarion has helped you connect requirements, test cases, risks, documents, project planning, cybersecurity, management systems, sales feedback, change management, and product architecture within the same tool, leading to improved productivity.
