OriginPro is an exceptional modelling tool for students to learn the importance of curve fitting for spectroscopic analysis. Plotting and data analysis are very easy to use for students who have limited coding experience. The visualization of the various functions in particular allowed students to understand the complexities of selecting the correct model.

Students also were able to curve fit using various functions - Guassian, Lorentizan, or mixed Gaussian-Lorentzian. Students modelled spectra and integrated and could argue the benefits of one model over another. I've been a researcher for 20 years, and Origin is the gold standard of spectroscopic analysis for my research. The opportunity - through the course license - to teach students how to use Origin is more than just creating professional quality figures - but its about teaching students the necessary tools for high quality spectral analysis. I argue that students need to have access to software like Origin if they are to be competitive in the market. In a three-hour lab class, students imported their data, learned to do a baseline subtratction, and then deconvoluted multiple peaks. By the end of the first lab period, students were alreaady trying out various models and learning to visualize their data beyond the tradiational and limited spreadsheet software they typically use. Implementing the OriginPro Course Lisence into my class is a game-changer. I strongly recommend considering using OriginPro in your courses for advanced students, in particular, students who are planning for graduate studies in chemistry. Really the only issue with Origin and OriginPro is the complexity of its licensing requirement. If you don't pay for annual maintainece, you have to be very vigilant about tracking and maintaining all your licenses. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

OriginPro is an excellent introduction for students to complex data analysis with a graphical interface that makes it easy for them to pick up with a smooth learning curve.

The support for an educational version that is accessible to students scaffolds them into using the type of professional software they will use for data analysis throughout their career, and enables earlier exposure through classes and teaching labs.

The license management makes it easy to implement in a course-based structure, and is one of the most fluid across software licenses I've worked with.

The familiarity of the basic system of entering data couples well with more complex functionality (such as designating data by x/y/z/error in the sheet), allowing students to integrate what they know from working in excel into more complex analysis.

The lack of fluid export functionality into formats easily edited in Illustrator (or other vector-based design programs) limits functionality, with each available type of export (svg, eps, emf) each offering pros and cons in terms of final control over data editing to make schemes and figures that combine data with other graphical information (for example, chemical structures). I have used Origin extensively for 10+ years, it is great for data organization, visualization, and analysis. We use it to make figures, analyze imaging and electrophysiology data. the graphing process is very easy to learn and mster, many analysis and statistical tools make OriginPro very powerful.
