The download process for OpenReel was somewhat more complicated than I would have liked. Also, the initial on-boarding process was a bit much. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I love how it has multi-cam feature where we can shoot our subjects from two angles with two devices. It's also packed with all video features we need to capture knowledge from our subjects. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The pricing model. They charge for every minute recorded, rather than by good takes that we will end up uploading to the cloud. We often record many bad takes and are still charged for it even though we discard them before uploading. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

OpenReel is the best way to capture high quality video remotely. We've been using OpenReel regularly for years and it has become our main way of capture content through the pandemic.
The intuitive and collaborative environment makes it easy for you to direct your subjects. The software combined with the recommended production items such as lavalier microphones and tripods provides results that are unachievable with any other platform. It gives us a competitive advantage and allows us to deliver high quality content to our clients.
Lastly, OpenReel's support team has been there for us from the initial training sessions to any questions that we've had along the way. They have been very responsive and helpful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There aren't many downsides and any that do exist are addressed with consistent updates and development. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I feel like 2.0 has a few issues that having been figured out yet. Cause us issues where sometimes it recorded sometimes it didn't. . Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
OpenReel has been very useful in capturing HD video, remotely, that cuts more smoothly with our HD footage than recorded video calls would. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Initially, the lack of availability on non-Apple products was a downside, as well as the limited number of participants. However, both issues have been addressed, thankfully! There were some manual controls on version 1.0 that are no longer there on 2.0, but it's not the end of the world. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The ability to truly capture great-looking video remotely. Secondly, focus on the creative direction and content by not worrying about technology. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
We need a microphone for better sound quality and a tripod for more creative framing Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Everything works. I have never once had an issue where I had to redo something due to technical errors. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The default capture format appears to be webm, so you need to take an extra step to encode to MP4 before downloading off the platform. It would be nice to have it automatically do this, since most people are not going to be editing with a webm file. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Love that we can capture the full native video at the source without the compression or degradation that conferencing apps apply.
And the simplicity of use for the subjects makes it a win. And the OpenReel support team was amazing - responsive and proactive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
When we started with OpenReel we found that the functionality around inviting participants - both subjects and collaborators was lacking. Once an invite was sent, it could not be changed, but also it was not visible in a session. Recently both issues have been resolved. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The customer service is very professional and helpful. They made sure to have a tech person attend our first production and were always available when we needed help. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The openreel platform currently only works with iPhones. It would be nice if there were a way to include all cell phone companies as some clients don't have apple products. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
