What do you like best about OctaneRender?

Octane produces beautiful results that reward thoughtful lighting and texturing. With Octane, you can achieve photo realistic results like no other engine - it's fast, controllable and fun to use. Octane provides its users with intuitive render options that give the user time to focus much of their planning on the actual creative process and not troubleshooting settings. While octane is easy to pick up, it has a wide array of complex features that support OSL script, volumetric shading, and much more to enable its use in a wide variety of applications. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about OctaneRender?

Octane can at times crash, and while it's plugin integration with my 3d suite of choice (Cinema 4D) has been done well, there are opportunities for improvement. I would like to see more capabilities to integrate cinema 4d's tools into the Octane workflow. While I love that Octane has a minimal approach to settings, I would like a little bit of freedom to break out of the nonbiased workflow at times, for example separating reflection and refraction values. Finding the latest versions on the forums and being left to navigate them for patches has never felt like an ideal solution to updating my software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is OctaneRender solving and how is that benefiting you?

Octane has, quite simply, enabled me to drastically improve the quality of my work. Whether it's textures, lighting, or complex materials that require demanding render times such as Displacement or Subsurface Scattering, the beauty and quickness of Octane has been a lifechanger. It cannot be understated how important quick results in a live render viewer are for a creative - being able to quickly see and adjust your render liberates a creative from long render times slowly trying to develop a render. The time you save with octane, both in its quick render speeds and intuitive workflow, enables a much more productive workflow. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about OctaneRender?

I enjoy the rendering window with live views. When I see updates instantly, I can update and modify materials. It is easy to use the renderer. You pick up the ins and outs easily when you start working with it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about OctaneRender?

One thing I don't like is that the live rendition window will fail if you have a lot of objects with materials. I also don't like the general Omni light on the renderer. It doesn't work when you try to use the built-in general light in C4D. It doesn't even display a light tag in renders. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering OctaneRender:

This can be used and practiced quickly. Often I want it to be more efficient or to have a guide on what scenes or places you use for rendering. I'm happy to use octane otherwise. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is OctaneRender solving and how is that benefiting you?

It solves the problem of the program's poor integrated renderer. It creates materials that look realistic. You can simply use daylight to work with HDRIs. This works quickly. This is perfect for detailed images, which can be produced without knowing the hundreds of complex parameters required to manage a biased renderer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about OctaneRender?

I enjoy the live view rendering window. I can update and change materials while seeing updates instantly. The renderer is easy to use. Once you start working with it, you quickly pick up the ins and outs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about OctaneRender?

One thing that I dislike is that when you have a lot of objects with materials the live rendering window will fail. I also dislike that the renderer doesn't have a general Omni light. When you try to use the general light built-in with C4D it doesn't work. Even putting a light tag on it doesn't have it show up in renders. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering OctaneRender:

This is easy to use and learn. There are times where I wish it was more powerful or a guide on settings for rendering based on what scene or setting you are using. Otherwise, I am very happy to use octane and will continue using it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is OctaneRender solving and how is that benefiting you?

I use Octane with C4D on the daily. It solves the issue of the poor built-in renderer of the program. It creates realistic-looking materials. It has easy to use daylight settings and works great with HDRIs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about OctaneRender?

it is extremely buggy. it has lots of compatibility issues with pretty much all plugins.

The worst thing is they have horrible support.

every time when I ask something, I got a response of " did you read the manual "

What do you like best about OctaneRender?

Octane Render promises ease of use, interactivity, integration into a wide range of applications and the claim of being “the first GPU based, un-biased, physically accurate renderer on the market”...and it certainly lives up to this! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about OctaneRender?

OctaneRender requires NVidia card to run. OpenCL is not compatible, but according to the Octane FAQ there are plans to support it when the technology matures. I hope this happens. There is also a limit on the numbre of textures used. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is OctaneRender solving and how is that benefiting you?

animation settings are a little difficult, there needs to be workflows to get rid of glitches and flickers. This is great, however, for accurately rendering with photoreal images that can be created without needing to learn the hundreds of esoteric parameters needed to master a biased renderer. What do you like best about OctaneRender?

What I like the best about it is that they have different versions for different software you might use. For instance, 3DS, C4D, or even something like Daz Studio. The renderer has a lot of options, is very, very fast, and simple to use. I honestly haven't had a program render this quick. It is fantastic. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about OctaneRender?

The only issue I have is the light direction. It would seem more intuitive to have lights that orbit a ball and you can drag them around the ball to place your lights. I think Poser used to have something like this. I find it can be difficult to get the light where I want it to be because I'm not always sure where it is when I'm moving it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering OctaneRender:

Even if you aren't someone that does 3D work professionally, Octane Render is worth your money. I know Daz has a large userbase of casual users and professional character artists. Octane is perfect in all cases - even with major programs such as 3DS, C4D, and so forth. You'll be surprised. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is OctaneRender solving and how is that benefiting you?

We use octane to render a lot of product mock-ups and various graphics for ads we do. The greatest benefit of all is how quickly it renders. Even in complex scenes that have a lot of glass and reflections, it still renders like a beast. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about OctaneRender?

The speed of Octane Renders is very fast for visualizing the final look without having to spend minutes or hours to preview a shot. Of course this varies off complexity and Sample Size, among other settings, however you can get good results much faster than traditional methods. Being able to group nodes to organize a scene is beneficial when handing a project off to another artist for collaboration. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about OctaneRender?

Often the settings of a render Node can be changed unintentionally when moving around the scene. Being able to see the pivot and adjust it for imported geometry meshes would be nice to know especially when importing a group of models as one mesh. Having manipulator controls for objects would be better than manually applying values in the Placement and 3D Transform nodes as the current solution. Not sure if it's in the camera settings but a way to visualize areas of importance for lighting to know where the light interacts at. Would also like additional features for generating 3D previews within the software itself, similar to playblasts or quick preview videos rather than rendering out PNG sequences. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering OctaneRender:

Have everything in place in the 3D Content software of our choice before exporting to Octane. Also make sure the folder structure and file names make sense so that you don't have to go back in forth between different software packages. Soon Octane might become a new software standard with its support for multiple content packages. For VR Octane is really leading the charge. Make sure you have the correct graphics card before purchasing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is OctaneRender solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are using Octane Render to actually build Environments that our Characters reside in. Using physics based lighting gives accurate and realistic looking results. Node based setups allow a clear visual representation of how our lighting is setup in relation to the camera and geometry. Currently we use Octane Render's stereoscopic Camera to set up our scenes for Holographic uses and potentially VR. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
