NAKIVO Backup & Replication Pros and Cons

I installed Nakivo Backup solution on my homelab server (VMware ESXi free) without any background knowledge about other backup system, which seem to be overcomplicated for me. The installation went like a charm, in just few clicks around I became the master of my backup server - this all without reading the documentation, just let guiding myself by the intuitive UI.

I have been Using Nakivo for about a year now (I was coming from Veeam) and have found the backup performance remarkable, the interface is very simple and user-friendly and it is easy to create your backup plan.

While the tool is excellent overall, the initial setup can be slightly complex for new users without prior experience in backup solutions. One of the biggest disadvantages of Nakivo Backup is that it does not offer source-based deduplication. In general, the space savings compared to other products still have room for improvement. Backup over WAN connections with low bandwidth is more time-consuming due to the lack of source-side deduplication. The recommendation to generally avoid deduplication and only use compression significantly increases storage requirements. These are also weaknesses that one would like to see resolved. - Seems to be working more reliably than Synology's Active Backup for Business for backing up our Hyper-V clusters.

- Support and Implementation team is knowledgeable, easy to work with, and flexible.

- Can be run standalone on Windows, Linux, Mac, or NAS solutions such as Synology.

Nakivo offers an excellent price-to-feature ratio – it’s easy to set up, provides fast backup. and it works flawlessly.
