For instance, you can't reference the balance sheet during income forecasting, so you can't forecast interest expense or interest income based on the balance sheet items like cash or debt outstanding. **What problems is Mosaic Tech solving and how is that benefiting you?** Mosaic Tech makes it easier to maintain versioning and data imports than forecasting in Excel, although it's not very helpful or usable for my needs. ### 2. Once the reports are set up, it's pretty easy to adjust time periods to create new versions. The modeling and forecasting is similarly pretty straightforward, and robust enough for most use cases. For example, it's pretty simple to work from an existing expense line item and forecast it forward using any number of formulaic approaches (flat, grow by x%, grow based on some other metric like headcount, etc.). It does have a lot of capabilities. **What do you dislike about Mosaic Tech?** There is definitely a learning curve with regards to creating formulas and linking the elements of a financial model. The syntax of the formulas is different from Excel/GSheet, but the support site has lots of examples so one can get pretty far on their own. **What problems is Mosaic Tech solving and how is that benefiting you?** Creating new forecasting scenarios (and having those scenarios be populated with actuals over time) is now much easier than combining those in Excel. ### 4. The Canvas workspace allows for quick and easy adhoc analysis and allows the functional leaders to get near real-time info that helps everyone row in the same direction based on the same set of data. Getting connected to Netsuite, SFDC and Maxio was very quick which allowed for validation of actual reporting info. **What do you dislike about Mosaic Tech?** Nothing really. We just went live with the solution and are in the middle of our FY25 Budget preparation, so still learning about all of the capabilities. The formula syntax is very much like excel, so it has been fairly easy to make the transition. **What problems is Mosaic Tech solving and how is that benefiting you?** Budgeting and Forecasting across a larger organization, along with monthly reporting and analysis. Mosaic is helping ensure the accuracy of the budgeting process by eliminating the risk and access controls involved in using a shared excel template. It also is eliminating cycles of time in the month-end review process by giving department and expense owners the required info they need to manage their function with the level of detail to avoid cycles of back and forth Q&A with the accounting team. ### 5. It serves all the standard FP&A functional needs with many out of the box metrics and dashboards that are awesome, especially for a SaaS company. Mosaic is built with SaaS companies in mind and that was a huge reason why we ended up choosing them. **What do you dislike about Mosaic Tech?** Mosaic is still a fairly early stage company so there are some features and integrations that are lacking but nothing that was a deal breaker. I will say that the team is open to hearing their customers requests and acting upon the product roadmap as planned. **What problems is Mosaic Tech solving and how is that benefiting you?** We moved to Mosaic from another FP&A tool that was very much lackluster and holding our Finance team back. I love the ability to view key metrics quickly and in real-time, with instant access to up-to-date data, we're able to respond quickly and with confidence. The Mosaic team are knowledgeable, responsive and helpful, ensuring we get the most out of the platform. **What do you dislike about Mosaic Tech?** There's an initial learning curve which requires time to master all the advanced features and customisation options available on the platform. Having said this, the support function and knowledge base tutorials are helfpul and easy to understand. It is also simple to get onboarded onto and use. While there have been some product bugs, their support team is very responsive and has been able to rectify most bugs flagged. Lastly, I've enjoyed the overall partnership attitude that Mosaic approaches their customers with. I've been asked for product feedback many times + I appreciate how our CSM genuinely is empathetic to our use case, even if it's not necessarily the exact product use-case vision on their roadmap. **What do you dislike about Mosaic Tech?** Mosaic is still a relatively newer tool in the FP&A software landscape so there is room for product improvements. Budget loads from external sources + exports are still very rudimentary + collaboration is tricky to provision. We also not use Mosaic reporting in anything other than internal company reporting, as there is minimal customization (but it works completely fine for our BvA process). **What problems is Mosaic Tech solving and how is that benefiting you?** Mosaic is our FP&A solution. It is what we use for all of our BvA reporting + department financial management (OpEx + some COGS). It is primarily a tool used to allow internal stakeholders access to our financials in lieu of providing full ERP access. ### 14. There are multiple systems integrations that seamlessly pull in data. Once you learn how to use the platform, navigation is intuitive . I am a primary user and use Mosaic on a weekly basis. Their support is very responsive and for quick questions, the chatbot is actually useful. **What do you dislike about Mosaic Tech?** Mosaic is constantly improving on their product. I have used their software for several years and there have been some big improvements. A few things I dislike about the software are: 1. Have to unpublish models before editing them, making it difficult to edit a model and look at the canvas at the same time. 2. Unable to edit data coming in from data sources. I understand that it is important to keep consistency but there are instances where I want to change what department an employee is in for modeling purposes that is different than the department the employee is in in our HRIS system. **What problems is Mosaic Tech solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are using Mosaic for our forecast modeling, analyzing budget to actuals, and compiling our ARR. Out-of-the-box reports allowed us to see the value right away. The canvas feature allows for quick and easy ad-hoc analysis and has created actionable insight already. The planning product provides a logical, flexible way for us to forecast and makes it easier to communicate and provide visibility into functions across the company. Scenario planning is valuable and easy to use and we have incorporated this heavily into annual planning along with other processes throughout the year. The success team made onboarding and getting to value an easy process. They are highly responsive to feedback and release new features and updates constantly. The UI/ UX is getting even better on the topline revenue planner. They continue to release highly relevant templates (sales efficiency, cash efficiency, etc.) that are relevant in the current economic climate. Their success team constantly gets feedback that makes its way into improving the platform, they take our feedback and we see it show up in the product quickly. I use it everyday and other functions outside of Finance are starting too as well. I like that they are pushing the boundaries of what strategic finance is and building a platform to truly make my life easier. **What do you dislike about Mosaic Tech?** Version control of models can be a bit confusing. Would be great to have a "core" operating model that would auto-populate throughout the canvases, and that didn't need to be unlocked to make changes. "Multiplayer mode" could be improved. Would like permissioning and sharing outside of the platform (in Slack would be great) to get insights into hands of people that may not log in as frequently. **Recommendations to others considering Mosaic Tech:** Make sure you dedicate the time and attention to setting this up because it has the power to run your financial model and reporting but does need an adequate level of attention. **What problems is Mosaic Tech solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am currently finding this most useful for ad-hoc analyses, monthly reporting (including budget variance analysis), and driving our operating model. I can synthesize insights and get answers to questions quickly and with a high level of confidence. Setting up reports to power monthly executive-level reporting has saved hours monthly. I am using this for my annual planning cycle, and it is much easier than spreadsheets! We are also going to start using the consolidation feature after a merger to combine different entities (including handling FX impact and intercompany transactions) ### 16. We have had a great experience getting everyting setup and rolling for 2 years now, and will be continuing to use Mosaic for our monthly and quarterly reporting needs (both internally and externally). I have also always had a great experience with customer support (both human and AI). We recently had to troubleshoot some reporting totals between Hubspot and Mosaic, and the team was super responsive in helping us get accuracy across systems. **What do you dislike about Mosaic Tech?** No complaints about Mosaic, it stands head and shoulders above the competitors we have looked at. It has also been nice to see how much the platform has grown since we started using it. **What problems is Mosaic Tech solving and how is that benefiting you?** We initially purchased Mosaic for the cash forecasting and modelling tool as we needed it for FP&A with our BOD, but the metric builder and dashboards have quickly become some of our favorite things to improve the experience for our internal stakeholders. We were able to get some basic reporting out of the box early in the process, which is a nice outcome. I quickly realized that they built a platform that did exactly what I needed, pinpointing the exact pain points that my new company needed a solution for. I decided to move forward, and it has been one of the best decisions I've made to push this finance department forward. Everyone that I've worked with in this company, from Sales, to Implementation, to Support, have been genuinely great and helpful human beings. Joe, one of the co-founders, took the time to get on a call with me and tell me the backstory of how and why they built this platform. Incredible personal touches from a team that really cares about setting my finance department up for success. I now spend more time in Mosaic than I do in my ERP, HRIS, and other data sources combined. They bring in all the data I need, and use thier impressive backend logic to turn it into actionable datapoints. As with all technology, there is a tradeoff between simplicity and capability. Using the configuration settings to switch between a chart and table while maintaining the settings is a great feature, as well as applying data ranges to all reports on a canvas. **What do you dislike about Mosaic Tech?** The no-code setup limits customization from what would be available in a code-optional setup. Custom metrics do allow for formulas, but the functions are much more limited in comparison to something like Excel. Documentation via articles and webinars leave some blind spots related to building out functions within metrics and while support is very pleasant, we've not had a ton of progress or solutions coming out of our more technical questions. **What problems is Mosaic Tech solving and how is that benefiting you?** Mosaic is capable of solving the issue of sharing information in a live-update format on a company-wide scale. This does reduce the amount of time that has to be spent pulling reports on request or active seats in other financial software to view reports. This would allow us to take some metrics out of Looker and bring them into Mosaic. It would also be great to have more control over the design/coloring/styling of charts. The customer service/account management is so responsive and helpful. They have wonderful documentation around common questions, how-tos etc, but they also are incredibly responsive to emails and personal questions to help you at any point. They also have a large numbers of predetermined metrics and forecasting methods that make it easy to use without needing to create everything from scratch, while also allowing ease of customization for your specific business. The direct connection with ERPs allow easy updating of actuals with rolling forecasts as well. **What do you dislike about Mosaic Tech?** The implementation can be harder, or take longer, depending on your business structure and needs. Also, the fact that it is a different platform than excel can be hard to transition to/ use with as much ease as someone is used to with excel. There is also a little bit of a learning curve to become fully comfortable with the formula structures or nuances of different parts of the tool. Additionally, implementation was a breeze; their customer success team worked closely with us to ensure that we were able to get the most value from the platform as soon as possible. **What do you dislike about Mosaic Tech?** The learning curve for those who are used to working out of Excel or Google Sheets is somewhat steep, as it's an entirely new system to become familiar with. That said, the training materials were thorough and clearly organized. As long as you have time to dedicate to learning how to make the most of Mosaic, it'll pay off. **What problems is Mosaic Tech solving and how is that benefiting you?** Mosaic solves a few core problems that benefit our organization: (1) the integrate multiple, disparate data sources and allow that data to be harnessed in ways not possible without Mosaic; (2) the platform comes with many out-of-the-box dashboards/views that immediately replace less scalable dashboards that we were previously maintaining, saving us time and money; (3) most importantly, Mosaic has allowed us to have much more visibility into our operations, financial health, and areas for strategic improvement. ### 46. Good flexibility in forecast modeling and scenario planning. I had their proserv team build my model for me and was up and running in a few weeks, but I can maintain and extend it myself because it is intuitive to excel users. Onboarding was structured and efficient, and the support team is very responsive to "how do I" questions. **What do you dislike about Mosaic Tech?** Reporting outside of dashboards is mostly via CSV export for formatting in excel/google sheets. I try to push users to the dashboards whenever possible, but pull data down and format slides for board meetings, etc. **What problems is Mosaic Tech solving and how is that benefiting you?** I have my forecast and budget of record, along with various scenarios in Mosaic. I can then provide real-time variance analysis for each department on their dedicated dashboards. It is very easy to slice and dice the data and create custom metrics for analysis and reporting. With the integrated data sources, the actuals are always up to date across accounting, headcount, and the opportunity funnel. ### 47. The team provides a very good support and the materials on how to use the platform are really good. **What do you dislike about Mosaic Tech?** It would be cool if they more possibilities for visualizing the data, the dashboards are very good but miss some customizations to make it perfect. **What problems is Mosaic Tech solving and how is that benefiting you?** Solves the problems of lack in visibility of our financial data.
