Some of the applications can be a bit unintuitive. If you are making a specific graph in the Presentation Studio, for example, and you haven't done it before, there is no easy way to find out how to do it other than trial and error. There are courses but they can be a bit basic.

The data quality within Morningstar Direct is inconsistent. There are times that reports won't populate custom benchmarks or benchmark data will be missing all together. They seem to be more focused on future development of this application and not so much on perfecting what they currently have. For example, most of their data is provided by business day, but in performance reporting, you cannot select a business day for a batch report. The team supporting the program have let a lot of the features fall by the wayside, where they could be providing quality of life improvements. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The asset flows section and the insights from the Direct Compass section. Christine my Customer success manager cares about my account and provides proactive insights and assistance, even though I use always the same sections, it's nice to know that support is available. It's also amazing the chance to use the API and integrate Python in the process, thanks to that my analysis now requires much less time and there's no more need to slice and dice the data on Excel or r or look for more datapoints on Morningstar Direct, which is very time-consuming. Having used Morningstar Direct for a number of years, I find in mostly easy to quickly narrow a search and gather data to help analyze both our own mutual fund family as well as gather information on competing funds. Morningstar direct is an incredibly useful data source that we use to write investment reports for clients. The performance data for funds is very good, the attribution analysis is useful and the asset allocation module can be a good tool for looking at strategy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The data points sometimes change without letting us know which is a challenge. Also the software is not always very intuative. Furthurmore it is very frustrating to see that lots of the data is being limited behind more and more licencing restrictions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
