As a 20 yr user of MapInfo, the ability to work on a map in the layout is huge. Can't stress enough how important that is and how much time it saves.

I'm also very happy with having a base map layer available, though I would like to see a features layer, like cities, with no other map data available as well. Be easy to put on top of other data

Built in geocoding and Drivetime regions are very nice features to have.

Transluency is very helpful as is the label options. Have always been a fan of being able to use expressions in the labeling as well.

Historic property description uses city/village, date, size and neighbours. Using Mapinfo allows to construct a 3- dimensional space/time database with access and querability in many different ways as well as using the map e.q. thematic maps to support this. A fast and reliable GIS studio of tools useful for many basic and advanced concepts. Great for quickly undertaking spatial object creation and manipulation as well as accessing and analysing masses of embedded associated object data. MapBasic is extremely powerful and being able to automate it is one the main reasons my team utilise it. There is no general purpose scripting language supported by it. For example the number books available on Amazon for Mapbasic is 1 from 1996. In comparison Python goes to 75 pages. This limits the amount of customization or automation of business workflows that is available to an average advanced user.
