A schedule being regenerated based on your drawings that makes the whole difference. It makes work faster for our field a very easy add on to autocad that is perfect for landscape architect **What do you dislike about Land F/X?** It’s not really a dislike but having to set up landfx per say can tedious specially if you don’t really have IT knowledge **What problems is Land F/X solving and how is that benefiting you?** Being a able to make accurate plans quicker for deadlines ### 2. The feature that I use most often is the irrigation tools, which allow me to create irrigation designs and verify that the water coverage is sufficient on a particular plan. The integration between Land F/X and CAD is seamless, and there have been significant improvements made in this regard over the past few years. In addition, the plant library is extensive, and the program makes it easy to track quantities of plant types, even on very large-scale projects. Most of my peers seem to use the program primarily for this purpose - and it does this job exceedingly well. I also enjoy the quick tutorials that are publicly available on the Land F/X website. Their support and education is great and much appreciated. **What do you dislike about Land F/X?** I would like to see more visualization capabilities in the future that allow users to create rendered plans. This would allow designers to increase the quality of the visuals and share plans with clients in a way that is easier for them to understand. Having the ability to quickly create a custom rendering without pulling the plan into Photoshop would elevate the software to the next level. Land F/X currently does have options for colorization and custom pallete editing which is useful, but more loose and conceptual rendering type options would help to convey fluid concepts for discussion as opposed to technical drawings. Another "negative" is that I have not explored many of the other tools available. Land F/X seems to have a huge amount of capablity, but having so many different tools to explore can be overwhelming for a casual user. Perhaps the addition of a "lite" version with only the most common tools would be useful. **Recommendations to others considering Land F/X:** Land F/X is widely used among landscape architects, and I recommend becoming familiar with the program if you work in landscape design or coordinate with other firms on projects with complex landscape components. **What problems is Land F/X solving and how is that benefiting you?** Land F/X allows me to create plant palettes, lists, and location plans with ease. The large libary of symbology and hatches is helpful in differentiating location plans with many different plant, hardcape, and softscape types. The greatest benefit I've recognized is that the ease of editing for iteration of both landscape and irrigation plans; being able to quickly make changes is a valuble time saver. ### 3. The customer support is excellent! **What problems is Land F/X solving and how is that benefiting you?** I solve the problems of spatial connection and language between plantings. Benefits include easy conveying of ideas to coworkers and clients. ### 4. It will save time in the long run as it can generate schedules with ease. **What do you dislike about Land F/X?** When labelling plants land fx shuts off Ortho mode. Sometimes when labelling plants as a group it does not pick up all the plants. **Recommendations to others considering Land F/X:** I think it is worth the investment if you are doing a lot of planting plans or detailing. **What problems is Land F/X solving and how is that benefiting you?** It creates a nice detail library, and manages plant files well. It keeps track of plants, which makes large planting plans much easier to keep track of. The detailing is nice because it can be used from job to job. We use land fx for large planting plans (multifamily, subdivision, commercial, etc). We also use it for keeping details, we recently had a job with 200+ custom details and landfx had no issues with it. ### 5. Ability to change annotations globally helps to minimize drafting errors and allows designers to be adaptable to changes in client preference and value engineering. Presentation graphics allow for quick production of renderings to help convey basic themes such as color and layout. **What do you dislike about Land F/X?** Presentation graphics functionality leaves little ability for customization and overall visual quality is low. **What problems is Land F/X solving and how is that benefiting you?** Ability to change annotations globally helps to minimize drafting errors and allows designers to be more adaptable to changes in client preference and adjustments for value engineering. ### 6. They keep developing and refining to make the product better and more functional and incorporate customer feedback and suggestions. However, where I am most impressed is the support. In my experience, they are extremely knowledgeable, responsive and proactive. I have gotten follow up calls to make sure that everything was working smoothly after an email exchange. **What do you dislike about Land F/X?** There is so much functionality through their product, that it takes a while to familiarize yourself with all the tools. It can be a bit intimidating going beyond the basic functions. They have plenty of training resources available, but I don’t have the time to dedicate to it. On a more critical note as a designer it would be nice to have more control of the look of the schedules and tables without digging too deep **What problems is Land F/X solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use it for quick concept planting, and for construction document sets. It saves a lot of time having the plant and our detail libraries at our fingertips. Even if I am not using their SketchUp bridge, I use LandFX to rough in planting using their planting block library and the import into SketchUp where those blocks are imported as components, that I then update with a custom 3D tree for quick and painless 3D models. ### 7. Very easy to learn, as long as time has been allocated to implement the software. **What do you dislike about Land F/X?** Trying to incorporate the full software into professional practice. Some parts of the software don't allow for easy manipulation to easily add to a firm's workflow. Like changing planting symbols to meet firms current standards. Not being able to use the software to potential because firms already have a solid use of AutoCAD and CAD standards must be in line with architects and engineers. **Recommendations to others considering Land F/X:** Land F/X is a solid product that will continue to evolve to fit into the Landscape Architecture field as time progress. Hopefully, others will buy on because it simplifies a lot of the workflow. **What problems is Land F/X solving and how is that benefiting you?** My firm is not utilizing any current Land F/X, I've used it at previous companies for irrigation design. That feature alone is worth the investment. In my experience it’s not widely used in practice. They may be in part because students aren’t using it or it’s cost prohibitive or firms have found workflows around it.
