HUMAN is highly effective at detecting, stopping, and slowing down bad bots while allowing legitimate marketing crawlers and human users through.

The platform is simple to implement, easy to manage and monitor. Customization rules allow for thorough whitelisting, blacklisting, and tuning.

We have observed a very low false positive rate, but when false positives do occur, CAPTCHAs generated by HUMAN do not cause much user annoyance compared to many of the other CAPTCHAs you see.

Having an external bot mitigation solution creates a more complex ingress chain for the site, as compared to having native functionality at the CDN layer like many CDN vendors are offering nowadays. We have been using the Human bot defender (previously PerimterX) for the main web application we have which is the critical for lead generation. As someone without a strong technical background, I initially found navigating their dashboard to be a bit challenging. The interface has many features and data points that can feel overwhelming at first. However, after some exploration and regular use, I became much more comfortable with it. Onboarding was detailed and thorough. The implementation was also fairly easy and straight forward. We collected data for a few weeks to get a better understanding of our bot traffic before enforcing bot traffic rules, which made our stakeholders feel confident about using the product. From a DevOps perspective, implementing Bot Defender within our infrastructure has been largely painless. Security centric monitoring isn't my primary focus, but the web portal provides easy to understand analytical dashboards with granular data exploration capabilities for detailed threat investigation. The custom policy engine limits the ability to process compound rules using OR operators, constraining rule complexity. Additionally the ability to view daily/weekly CAPTCHA challenges metrics in a visualization would be a nice enhancement for the portal. That and the option for a dark mode interface. The HUMAN team have helped us prevent significant attacks at multiple levels, and also provide our customers with a safe and secure purhcase process. The ability to control specific IPs and providers has been very helpful. I genuinely believe that with their help we have built the best launch process in the marketplace. We have seen occasional increases in the human challenge being presented to our customers, sometimes due to tweaks or changes made by the HUMAN team. This can result in additional customer callouts and concerns. Custom rules can also cause us trouble, but those also fall into our hands to use more conservatively. It is difficult to know if we are blocking good traffic. Adding super detailed rules sounds good but then we hear about folks being blocked that shouldn't be. I think it would be best if we had a resource hyper managing the rules and very active in disabling and refining. I don't know that it was clear that we would need that level of care and feeding.

We have also had issues with where to implement Human tools. Our site should not be supporting it, SFCC will no longer host it. Hopefully the cost of hosting on our own cdn will be cost-possible. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

HUMAN Bot Defender is a fantastic tool that is easy to use and easy to implement. Their team is very helpful and has been willing and able to work with us to make sure that HUMAN works with our infrastruture and needs. Honestly there is not alot to dislike about HUMAN, if you are looking to get rid of bot trafdfic on your site, this is the product to use. Admittedly it is a little pricey but in the long run it's worth every penny. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

- Uses a signature-based detection to block bots instead of hardcoded configs

- Very easy to use and integrate / implement - removes any manual work on my end after the quick set up

- Extremely responsive team that will answer you quickly when you raise questions / issues

- The dashboard is very detailed and gives me useful insights as to where the bots / spams are coming from (eg country, IP address, URLs they are spamming at)
