"Flexibility and Ease Win Over Complex Setup"
What do you like best about Hex?

I really like Hex's simplicity and how it's easier to use than our previous tools like Looker Studio and Snowflake. It's very easy to configure and the initial setup was a breeze for our team. One of the features that stands out for me is the flexibility to use multiple languages and packages, including using Python and SQL simultaneously with ease. I also enjoy the capability to build my own controls using Python and HTML. Managing projects and users has been straightforward, and the connectivity to our main data repository in Snowflake, along with scheduling weekly messages to Slack, works seamlessly. The ease of use was one of the main reasons why we decided to migrate our main reports to Hex. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

It's not easy to obtain the UI I designed using App-builder. Sometimes, I cannot adjust margins or define a shared palette for a collection. Using Python collections inside SQL cells is not always possible. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Effortless Onboarding and Seamless Experience"
What do you like best about Hex?

I think the easy onboarding is really great. Hex is very straightforward with a very clean UI. The best part is that it has the AI assistant by itself, so you can just use natural language to talk to it and figure out how to use it. I was able to figure out the features by myself without much searching around or asking around to understand the features. The initial setup is super easy and very seamless. There's nothing to configure; you can just start using it and get the benefits and keep the momentum. I really enjoy the onboarding and the learning curve, which is not super deep. Without any configuration or setup, I'm already able to talk with it and have meaningful interactions and insights. This is great. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

Sometimes, the tool does not understand the tables, probably because we don't have the domain context or the semantic layer built in our database. This often requires modification and rerunning of queries, which feels like it's wasting time. Also, when talking to the AI assistant, it doesn't constantly check with me, which might save time, but sometimes leads to invalid results if certain queries or filters are missed and everything needs to be rerun. "Effective AI-Powered Data Analysis, Would Improve with Workflow Integration"
What do you like best about Hex?

I find Hex's AI functionality to be better than comparable tools. I also appreciate the functionality that supports the AI, such as integrating with dbt .yml to grab descriptions and the ability to mark particular resources as higher or lower precedence for the agent. This combination leads to better AI outcomes. Additionally, I found Hex agent to be better than SimplyPut, the previous tool we used. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

I think importing dbt's analyses as 'verified questions' could be of use, as it's one thing to have AI know the dbt model metadata, but another to have it reference queries to answer specific questions. Additionally, it doesn't support a 'workflow' style of work, which usually leaves it standalone for my use cases. Using the agent via Slack would be better if we could have conversations from Slack itself instead of entering the tool, as Slack is more one-shot currently. "Data, Code, Outputs and Narrative in one Place."
What do you like best about Hex?

Work together with our team on data projects, and using data to find useful answers without complexity. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

Rerunning all cells can make the app slow because of how it's designed. When working with long code, it's harder to use than a regular code editor. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Hex: Powerful Analysis, Auditable AI, and Dashboards That Stakeholders Love"
What do you like best about Hex?

I love how hex allows for both complex data analysis leveraging tools like R and python to do linear regression and stuff like a traditional jupyter notebook or Rstudio, but also for the creation of dashboards for less technical stakeholders. I use it pretty much every day, especially the Threads agent, to just ask little questions that don't deserve a full analysis. Probably one of my favorite things is that I can go back and audit the code, unlike a traditional AI tool. I found it really easy to integrate with snowflake, and I've just loved all my interactions with the company. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

The Data Modeling suite is a bit rough (though it is in beta). What's particularly weird, is that I've had lots of issues where I will explicitly tell the AI where the data is located, and it still takes like 4 or 5 tries to actually find the data, the data model helps a lot with this, but it doesn't solve the underlying issue, and in-fact has made it worse in some scenarios, as the Data Model Validator does not check for ambiguous labels. "Hex Simplifies Dashboarding with Powerful AI Features"
What do you like best about Hex?

I like the AI feature a lot. And also the flexibility to use SQL and Python in one shared notebook. The interface is very convenient. Compared to some other tools for SQL querying and dashboarding, I found Hex to be pretty intuitive with a linear user flow, scrolling up to down rather than switching between different tabs for SQL and Python, which is more convenient. I also find the embedding to Notion helpful for sharing or embedding live charts and dashboard into documentation. The initial setup was pretty easy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

I think the AI feature can have more potential to learn from existing contacts and some better guidance that we can provide. Another thing might be making the shape of the notebook to have bigger RAM and faster speed. Those would be some quality of life improvements. But nothing major though. Still okay. "Intuitive to use, Faciliates Quick Report Building, with Responsive Support"
What do you like best about Hex?

Very intuitive to use. Reports can be super quick to spin up.

We find it great for sharing insights across an entire team (unlimited viewer licences is a huge plus for us).

The support has been excellent, both super responsive and helpful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

Only suggestion is that some expansion to the chart options would be useful. Heat maps or charts which can graph dynamic/input variables would be particularly useful for us. (I don't find using Python to implement these looks as polished as the inbuilt charts). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Streamlined Analytics with Intuitive UI"
What do you like best about Hex?

I like how easy Hex is to use, and the UI is very intuitive. I appreciate that I can do SQL and Python together in one notebook. It's convenient that the notebook lives in one place with all the text and charts, and people can view the queries underlying the charts if they have permission. As a user, I found the setup very easy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

I think when it comes to sharing ad hoc analysis, we're still struggling a little with freezing the results in time. So that the report does not refresh with the newest data, because otherwise, the text and the charts might not match. That's the only problem I have so far. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"AI-Driven Data Analysis Made Easy with Hex"
What do you like best about Hex?

I love the AI agent built into Hex. The agent is accurate and is trained to automatically update and requery tables as needed. It allows me to find which tables in the database I need, automatically query hundreds of thousands of results quickly, provide concise analysis through its AI, and quickly create tables and charts through simple prompting. The AI agent has allowed me to ask questions about the data and get an understanding of data structures prior to writing any SQL queries. It shows its work by recording the chat transcript and each SQL query and table of results that it creates with every iterative prompt. Also, it was very easy to get started when I created my account. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

There could be a way to preview data better. With the amount of data that my company has and with how the data in those tables has changed over time, it would be helpful to preview recent results instead of a snapshot of the oldest records. I would like a date filter for the preview on the data table, or searching for individual record fields in the data preview to see if the table has the item I am looking for. "Effortless Custom Reporting and Intuitive Admin Interface"
What do you like best about Hex?

I appreciate how easy it is to create custom reports and analyses, ranging from simple descriptive statistics to more advanced analytics. As a data developer at my company—combining aspects of both data engineering and analysis—I really enjoy coding in notebooks. We use BigQuery as our datawarehouse so the integration was so easy. Additionally, since I serve as the admin for our Hex account, I find the platform’s user-friendly interface for management to be a major advantage. I’d also like to mention that whenever I’ve needed support, whether for questions or to resolve bugs, customer support has always provided helpful answers or solutions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

As a developer, I can't say that there's anything I currently dislike about Hex. However, from an admin perspective, I wish there were more detailed statistics available about users and their interactions with the platform. At the moment, I can only access limited information, such as users' most recent views, but I don't have a comprehensive overview of the entire user experience within this tool.
