What do you like best about Gradelink?

This is a very complex school management system that can accommodate almost any requirement you might have. It allows for setting terms the way you need them and it has excellent mass and individual communication tools. It also comes with an app for students and parents, and can generate various reports, report cards, transcripts etc. It has a discipline system and attendance taking, all of these (including grades) with real time alerts for parents that they can customize (e.g. you get a notification any time a discipline mark is entered, or a tardy is recorded, or when the average for a subjects either drops bellow or goes above some preset customizable levels). the service and support is great and the price is not back breaking. It has some optional but very attractive features, like mass/individual sms, and on-line enrollment/re-enrollment. You can open several instances of gradelink, even under different user names in the same browser, and that is a plus for me as an admin. The system provides a lot of visual helps and mini-videos to explain the features, and if you call in the service is fast and knowledgeable. You can send messages in any kind of type of group you want, very flexible, and you can allow people to respond or not. You can post a newsletter on the opening page. You can easily conclude old term/create new terms in bulk, and promote/graduate students. All profiles allow you to post if you want a picture, for easy facial recognition of the student/faculty. What do you dislike about Gradelink?

It has a few minuses that, once addressed, could make this product even more attractive. The app is very rudimentary and has almost no customization available. Also, it lacks some essential functionalities that have parents always complain about it, e.g. it CAN"T access the calendar, the MAIN place where teachers post homework assignments and upcoming events! This is a glaring omission, and forces parents to log via a browser, which seems to defeat the purpose of having the app. Another frequent complaint I have from teachers is that on the web version (main version) you cannot customize colors of backgrounds and/or fonts, columns, etc. Some teachers are having color sensing impairments and the overall look of the product is dull, grayish and low contrast, making it harder for some of the teachers to properly see the details on page.

Also, some of the settings in various places of the software are buggy and counter-intuitive. The settings on terms and periods is very confusing and not well explained in the instructionals. The calculations used for the subject averages are confusing and not straightforward. Also, we would like to give some teachers limited access (view only) to some classes, but that is not possible. In the text messaging tool for communications, the amount of words allowed is way too small (150 characters). Also, the system keeps you logged in or not as the computer goes in standby or screen saver in a mysterious way (sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't). For security reasons it should log you out by default any time one of these events happens. There is no way to give access to a teachers to the discipline system for all students. Recommendations to others considering Gradelink:

If you are switching from another system or even if you are completely new, make sure you have as much info exported/entered in a .csv or excel type file as possible, to minimize the amount of initial work you will be required to put in to have the system up and running. Splitting the tasks between two or three admins helps a lot! Everything you want in (addresses, bios, demographics, phone and emails, grading scale, discipline marks, attendance marks, etc, I mean everything) should be at hand in a .csv or excel file. The company will require a special formatting/structure of these files, but once you have it in any structure, you can work with it easily to rearrange. A good, solid sytem overall. What problems is Gradelink solving and how is that benefiting you?

Keeping grades accurately, communicating effectively with parents and students, Taking attendance, keeping tabs on discipline, good reporting, enrollment/re-enrollment via web, etc. Posting the newsletter online (visible in the app too). Midterm reports, report cards, GPA calculation in real time, transcripts, archive of alumni. You can keep in touch with the alumni too. Easy creating of new terms from old ones. The dedicated customer support that Gradelink has provided for our Indiana school has helped us solve many data issues that arise during data exchange with the IDOE. Kate Nevar has been top notch in problem solving and offering quick replies, even if she has had to hand the issue off to Gradelink's deveopment team for changes. This kind of dedicated support for our school will keep us coming back to Gradelink for our SIS. Thank you, Kate, and thank you Gradelink for providing thoughful support for your schools. What do you like best about Gradelink?

Gradelink is a great software when it comes to making all the data that's relevant accessible to students, parents and schools. The customer support is very responsive, and the software updates regularly! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gradelink?

The only downside for Gradelonk is the lack of user-friendliness, due to which it becomes increasingly difficult for someone who is new to access the software and the help tutorials also need to be updated and made easy to understand. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Gradelink solving and how is that benefiting you?

Storing all relevant files and data and making them accessible to parents, teachers, and students is something that Gradelink does better than the rest of the K-12 SIMSI have used to date. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I like how it saves time automatically doing tasks that teachers like me normally take forever to complete manually.

I like how friendly and reliable the costumer service is.

It makes it easier for me to manage my online students informations and details. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gradelink?

I don't like the fact that i cannot send multiple files at once.

It can be a little pricey for low-fund teachers if they want the paid version. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Gradelink solving and how is that benefiting you?

Before i discovered gradelink, i used to struggle with my tasks as a teacher and administrator at the same time, managing your students online is no easy task, but with gradelink, every task that used to take me days to finish, i can now get done with simple clicks. What do you like best about Gradelink?

I love the ease of which I can enter grades, change weights on certain assignments in different glances, quickly get a report of what assignments my students are missing across all subjects, and an overview of their current grades! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gradelink?

I've yet to find anything I really dislike, with perhaps my least favorite section being the lesson planning section. It's a little overwhelming to use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Gradelink:

If you need a product that is easy to use, easy to understand, and easy to share with your school parents, this is it. Gradelink has made grade entry and report card completion so much simpler and less time consuming! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Gradelink solving and how is that benefiting you?

I'm not sure about business problems, but the benefits are that our school parents can log in and see their students' missing assignments, grades, and upcoming school events. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Phil Moffitt of Gradelink

What do you like best about Gradelink?

Gradelink is good for maintaining basic information on your current roster. It's nice that you are able to find the info you need on your kids at the time you need it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gradelink?

Gradelink is, in my opinion, is expensive for what you get. Reporting is cumbersome and limited. For example, pulling attendance reports requires at least ten extra clicks that a good redesign could do away with. Additionally, the visual presentation of the site is rather displeasing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Gradelink:

I would strongly encourage your to explore your options. The feel and performance of system are dated. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Gradelink solving and how is that benefiting you?

While Gradelink certainly beats that old paper process, it's not by a whole bunch. The main benefit of this SIS is the ability to have the information at your fingertips, even if it takes more effort to compile it than is ideal. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
