What do you like best about GitHub?

easy to handle, great collaboration tools, free for hobbyists and small companies. Very stable operation and always reliable. The built in code editor and the possibility to navigate thru a complex code base by clicking function names is a perfect add on.

What I also like is the possibility to explore unknown code from open source projects, when they are hosted on github. Searching for snippets and function names is most easiest in github in comparison to any other (offline) tool or code editor.

I recommend github for any serious project. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about GitHub?

I think that github is too much focused on "hardcore" developers and scares the beginners. They should first create and publish more tutorials for connecting other applications. The git CLI usage should also explained better, especially for beginners, so tutorial should be built in. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering GitHub:

For us no other solution brings that quality level so far. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is GitHub solving and how is that benefiting you?

Development platform for collaborative software development based on open source projects. The ability to clone and adopt these project to the own needs; e.g. theme development additional modules and customizing of core functions. Further on, the secure backup of of local repositories is a key feature, especially when you deploy your IDE in a (throwable) container on many machines. We also use Github as a base storage for our Docker images to keep them up to date and have a quick deployment of the build images into running containers. Further on, we use Github as backup medium for our webshops and websites (static parts, like themes, images and so on). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about GitHub?

The features provided by Github like forking of the project and git version control that helps to track the error and revert back if needed very quickly also, the community for the GitHub are very big Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about GitHub?

Some of the functionalities is quite tough to understand, although the help of the communities of GitHub on Reddit and StackOverflow helps a lot. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is GitHub solving and how is that benefiting you?

version control system and the real-time project management that is the most benefitting things for me on github as a developer the most of the time sometimes goes to debugging in the case of code merge on other platforms Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about GitHub?

Github is a life saver for me and my team for allowing are work to be stored and merged at a single place, the dependecy threat check bots and version history controls , branch all are a lifesaver for big team.s Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about GitHub?

git can be a little hard on you if you are new to it , most new joiners in the teams face a lot of challenges in understanding it at the start maybe with some better ui or interface changes can help to fix this Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering GitHub:

a lot of easier interfaces and changes can be made to make it more friendly for a dumb new user . anyone to move into space of github i say you are completely moving into the right direction rather than the competition reason for that would be the amazing feature updates that git is pushing daily , you have now bots to verify your builds to check for any urgent release updates that may save you from a latest threat or high priority change which i really enjoyed. Also easy setup of access via dashboard and IDE setup via tokens is also something you should really find wonderfully easy to learn. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is GitHub solving and how is that benefiting you?

github allows me to share my code with my team , host at a central repository where anyone i want can pull or push changes and also take actions such as review or collaboration Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about GitHub?

Best thing is

I can fork the repository and can able to create a branch and clone the code make changes in code if required and push the code, and can raise pull request for the merge in main branch and if aprooved it will be merge.

for next I can create new branch and can delete the older branch. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about GitHub?

I think this is the best plateform.

Just sometimes the exact process to understance is difficul, for first time user.

Once if understand than it will be fine to use next time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering GitHub:

Very useful for developers.

also helped in work from home.

It track records for our commits. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is GitHub solving and how is that benefiting you?

I'm mostly depende on GitHub in my company work.

As I'm developing and enhancing the project than I use GitHub.

I'm able to track what changes I did in my code and the flow.

Once I raised pull request and if any error in code than also I can make changes in code and commit and no need to raise pull request again.

So it helped me a lot and tracke records of my commits. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about GitHub?

With GitHub, you can do versioning for your code. Multiple developers can stay in sync with each other and can develop their products together. What I like the most is that you can create open source projects publicly and get contributions from developers from around the world. It also helps you build up your reputation by making your interesting project public so that recruiters can view them after applying for a job. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about GitHub?

Nothing to dislike about GitHub. It's affordable, easy to use and makes development fun lot. It saves time and makes remote development possible. I just love GitHub. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is GitHub solving and how is that benefiting you?

With GitHub, I was able to do a lot of things, some of them are:

1- Version control.

2- Work remotely.

3- Back up and save your project safely.

4- Contribute to public open-source projects.

5- share code with others.

6- Build up your reputation by showing others your capabilities. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about GitHub?

GitHub has a host of features that are useful to any developer building software. Although it primarily hosts open-source software, enterprises use GitHub through the enterprise license for internal/private applications. The GitHub Marketplace provides a lot of community-built/pre-built GitHub actions to use in our workflows. Reviewing code on GitHub pull requests is the best experience because of the file explorer in the PR section. GitHub Projects and Issues allow better collaboration within the same application where code is present along with GitHub Discussions. The automation capabilities of GitHub make life easier for a DevOps Engineer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about GitHub?

GitHub has a history of outages which is not good for critical workflows running on GitHub actions and other GitHub components. GitHub actions can only be written with Javascript or Docker, providing low flexibility. GitHub requires better result publishing capabilities for a workflow along with providing granular access to the results/actions of a workflow to a user(RBAC). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is GitHub solving and how is that benefiting you?

We use GitHub as our remote git repository to store our code and collaborate within the organization through GitHub Projects and GitHub issues. The delivery of the software and packages are automated through GitHub Actions, where we are not limited with the number of workflows due to our enterprise licensing. We also use GitHub to integrate with other software such as Snyk to provide security for our repositories or Gitpod for remote environments. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about GitHub?

To be honest, the journey with Github was fantastic in docker-Jenkins-integration.One of the key reason to like the github is let's you work with CI/CD tools of your own choice. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about GitHub?

Sometimes, pushed files are different from the project repository, some files are omitted and not able to upload folder for that we have to create maven repositories. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is GitHub solving and how is that benefiting you?

In our CI/CD pipeline committing changes and pushing code from the remote workspace to the GitHub server is very fast. Github is our main code repository, and version control system because we get version history and Jira integration possible which is the main consideration for our team!!!!
