I like the software. It streamlines the analysis and design by having a better user interface than HEC-HMS and it is much easier to extract tables for reports and exhibits. I have used it to design detention basins and for hydrology for floodplain analysis. It does the same thing as HEC-HMS but saves me time during analysis and design which is the main reason I like it. Another good thing is that CivilGEO tech support will get to you the same day when you submit a question. I don’t think I have waited more than 30 minutes for a call.
(Update) After years of using GeoHECHMS the sofware continues to be a benefit to our company. It has especially come in handy when working on models that cover watersheds hundreds of square miles in size due to the spead of navigation, the map backgrounds available, and being able to import shp and AutoCAD files. Customer support has continued to be excellent. Also, if you have a recommendation for a feature or results output that will be of benefit CivilGEO will add it. Like all new software, there are bugs that need to be worked out. Units shown on results tables sometimes are not what I am accustomed to seeing but that is easily fixed by contacting tech support. No major dislikes.
(Update) The bugs we have reported have been fixed and I can't tink of anything I dislike. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Compared to the original HEC-GeoHMS software, GHH offers significant improvements in both user-friendliness and computational speed. This enhanced user experience has streamlined my workflow, while the faster processing times allow for quicker analysis. Additionally, CivilGeo's consistently responsive and helpful technical support team has been invaluable in addressing any questions or issues that have arisen during my use of the software. Civil Geo is a relatively small and new company compared to the giants of the industry (like ESRI, AutoDesk, etc.) , so the software packages are still not as flawless as them. However, they seem to be on the right track with frequent updates.
Update: They still have been continuously improvming the software in the past two year. Recently I have been using this software more than the orginal HEC-HMS. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I really like the built-in functions such as automated curve number calculations and watershed and sub-basin delineation. In the past these would take hours to compile all the data. Now it can be done in one click of a button - the data is already pre-loaded into the software. Time of concentration calculations are also so much faster to complete. It's really easy to break off different segments and assign different flow types as well as land use. Another huge benefit is PMO/PMF analysis. No more looking at HMR 51/52 tables. Click the centroid of your watershed and the depth/duration tables will be loaded for you. I find the software user friendly and pretty easy to pick up, especially if you 've already used other hydrologic software. You can also directly export the project to HEC-HMS.
I use this software now for basically every project that requires a hydrologic input. There's almost no reason to start a project from HEC-HMS directly when there are so many tools built into GeoHEC-HMS. Also, the customer support is 10/10. Anytime I have had an issue, there has been a tech ready and willing to help walk me through any troubleshooting, even if it's not directly related to the software. They are super knowledgeable about modeling as well and are willing to offer different approaches based on your specific location and modeling needs. They will always follow up with you as well to make sure that the software is working as intended and are willing to incorporate suggestions you have to make the program even better for the user. There are a few small bugs with the software that are not deal-breakers (I still really like the software and will continue to use it), but the issue is that if someone who doens't know hydroogy well is using the program, they may think the model is running fine when in reality it isn't. For example, I have noticed with Curve Numbers that the program defualts to 25% impervious area. If you have already accounted for IA in your CN you need to make this 0%. Then when you export to HEC-HMS the 25% is back in the model again. If you aren't aware of this or aren't paying close attention, this would be easy to overlook. GeoHECHMS provides a wide range of useful tools for gathering DEMs, soil, landuse and FEMA data. Organized in a easy-to-use architecture. It also allows for working with data across multiple platforms (DWG, Tiff, Shapefile, etc) all in one tool. In addition to the effeciency that this affords, the tools themselves work quickly. Overall, this provides a rather noticable timesavings when developing H&H models, whether the hydroloy data you are creating is to be used within HEC-HMS or other modeling platforms. In addition, customer support is excellent being able to assist with any questions you may have as you become accustomed to the software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There is not much to report as far as issues with the software, it work well for what it is intended for. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I have found this software to be exceptionally user-friendly and powerful. The intuitive interface, coupled with the comprehensive online training videos, makes it effortless to navigate and complete studies. The seamless integration with platforms like ArcGIS Pro and Civil 3D allows for efficient data import and manipulation, significantly reducing tedious processes and ultimately saving both time and money.
The technical support team is outstanding. After completing a model, one of their support members thoroughly reviewed it with me, pointing out and explaining more efficient modeling techniques. This level of support is amazing, especially for young engineers conducting these studies. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The only area i would warn other firms about is the pricing and how it only allows one person to use the license at a time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The ability to use various overlays (impervious surface, soils, DEM data, etc) is extremely helpful as this is available within the software without hunting around the internet or digging though company server files for the correct overlay. The customer service is helpful, as they can push updates quickly to resovle issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The initial cost is something to consider, but the annual renewal fee is only a fraction of the cost. This is easily offset by the quick response of the help team and the services and training offered. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
GeoHECHMS successfully integrates GIS tools, traditional HEC-HMS algorithms and other web-based databases (USGS, FEMA, USDA etc.). I like the user interface it offers. GeoHECHMS is one of the best hydrologic modeling software I have experienced. Compared to the conventional HECHMS and other watershed modeling packages, it is more friendly to new learners. GeoHECHMS is not perfectly compatible with specific input formats like DWG and DGN, although it claims to support these formats. I had witnessed software crash a few times when I was trying to load these data files. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
GeoHEC-HMS excels in providing a robust platform for simulating the hydrological processes of watersheds. Its ability to model various hydrological components, from rainfall-runoff to snowmelt, makes it a super useful tool. The software's versatility and comprehensive range of modeling options, such as infiltration, unit hydrograph, and routing has made it an ideal software for complex projects. Additionally, the customer service and support provided with the subscription have been excellent. Any issues or questions have been promptly addressed by knowledgeable staff. While GeoHEC-HMS is a powerful tool, it does have a few minor drawbacks. The software tends to slow down when handling larger datasets, which can be frustrating during extensive projects. Additionally, there have been occasional glitches where the software modifies data unexpectedly when saving work. These issues are relatively infrequent but can disrupt workflow. Despite these kinks, GeoHEC-HMS remains a highly effective and valuable tool for hydrological modeling. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

GeoHECHMS is a huge timesaver. It automates many of the features within HEC-HMS. It's hard to imaging determining a NRCS (SCS) curve number (CN) in a matter of minutes, no matter the size of the watershed. But it does! Or checking hundreds of time-of-concentration routes in a watershed to determine the longest flow path in seconds. But it does! It automatically determines the impervious area, vegetative cover, watershed slope, and so much more. Hey, it even determines the watershed limits and breaks it down into sub-watersheds of maximum sizes if you want. It processes LiDAR and creates contour maps. What do I like best? I would say the most unbelievable part is it writes a complete report for you and creates the index - no lie! It's a huge timesaver that is unbelievable. But, their technical support is second to none. They have well qualified engineers answer your request within minutes most of the time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There is nothing I dislike about this software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
GeoHECHMS imports data from a variety of sources quickly and seamlessly, integrating them into a very accurate model. Thus, providing a user-friendly model that precisely calculates the necessary data, and allows the user to easily design their system. The tools within the software are intuitively easy to implement. All of this saves the user vast amounts of time, especially when compared to the use of multiple programs to perform the same tasks. This software is now our go to for all of our stormwater design projects.
GeoHECHMS's customer service is the best I have had the pleasure of dealing with. They are prompt to respond, and are able to swiftly fix any model errors. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Most of the error messages clearly state exactly what the error is and where to fix it within your model. But some of the error messages are vague. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
