The initial setup is very easy to complete. No coding or html language to learn. Most of it is drag and drop. Creating galleries for clients is a breeze. Their customer service team is responsive and helpful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I wish Format would offer more templates - specifically for photographers. Some of the templates are kinda of blah. Setting up the SEO functionality can be a little confusing for a beginner. I also hope that Format will improve the look and feel of their gallery pages to keep up with their competitors. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Format fits my purpose of being a photography portfolio website.
The cheapest option allowed max 100 images, which was sufficient for a photography portfolio site.
The inclusive templates were sufficient, though requires some thinking around to make the most out of them.
The automatic responsive website layout also allows for easy building
Easy integration with domain name and site management Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The templates included are sometimes a bit restrictive, need to think around to make the best out of it
To make use of customised HTML/CSS codes, Format requires upgrading to the next tier, which I was unwilling to pay for and therefore had to juggle around with the layouts Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The new templates are great. They compete well with Squarespace's selection. Customer service is also excellent. Always available to answer all of my questions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The dashboard and design settings change so frequently I can't ever remember how to edit my website. That's the most frustrating part. There are so many updates it's hard to keep up. I also use a program called Narrative to do my blogging for my business and I need to be able to upload HTML to the "blog" section of my site in order to use the back end SEO benefits that Narrative offers and Format doesn't allow this. I'm considering switching to Squarespace when I re-brand my business because of this issue. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I like how simple and easy it is to manage your website. everything is in order and logical sense. There is no weird options and the price is quite good. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Regardless of how I like simplicity of the 4ormat I don't like how limited I am with templates. There is such a small room to improve the template that a) my website never looks exactly how I want b) after while I can recognise others people websites that they made by 4ormat, it makes them just look the same - and no artist wants to look the same as others.
More options in custom pages and the enter pages. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I adore the ease of switching out images, changing the order, creating new pages, editing existing pages. The templates are easy to use. Makes my world so much easier. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Some frustration with the translation of the site to cell phone appearance. I had attempted to do some personal editing which I loved but it never translated perfectly to cell phone interface. Recently, I had to change and go with a generic template. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I have been using format for at least five years now. I love how easy it is to use as I know close to nothing about website building. Not too many themes to choose from. The website displays my portfolio exactly how I like it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Some tools are pretty slow at times, like the Proofing and Uploading. I have tried with different internet connections but that does not seem to change. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I find that contrary to popular blogging websites like Wordpress, Format has specifically and successfully targeted the art market. I feel comfortable with how aesthetically pleasing my site looks when presenting my work as the design and layout of the templates are all to the standard that a professional art site should be. I dislike that my portfolio looks like trash on mobile because on desktop it looks so good. The formatting is inflexible, and won't scroll up and down which isn't great. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It's very easy to use for any purpose. For myself as a photographer, I needed to add so many pages with photos dividing by projects. Wist Format, I could show smartly on the top menu, that was very important for me. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I don't have anything to complain, but the themes they provide are a bit less selections and too simple. I wish I had more choices for themes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
One of the most helpful things about format is the proofing option. This allows you to upload all the high resolution photographs from a shoot and then share them privately with a client. It looks very professional and it is very easy to use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The least helpful thing about Format is that the design can be restrictive. For example, you can not use custom font and there is a limited selection. This is not too say that I think it should be fully customisable (like a drag and drop website. I actually like how the design is curated for you - but I do think there are certain elements that should be customisable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
as a professional photographer who shoots a lot of verticals, I find it hard to create a website using pre-made layouts that don't minimize the vertical dimensions. I was thrilled with all the simple, functional and well designed options from format. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Customizing the code was confusing so I skipped it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
