Top Rated Follett Aspen SIS Alternatives
What is great about Aspen is that all your grades are in one place and parents can access their son/daughter's progress at a regular basis. Individual student schedules can be accessed as well as personal information on every student. Allergies have a symbol that appears near the affected student's name. Aspen doesn't always calculate grades properly. There can be a discrepancy between online computations and those done with a calculator. Furthermore, many parents in my school often have much difficulty accessing the site and they become very frustrated. When looking to print quarter grades for students, the teacher has to make sure that he/she selects only the quarter that he/she wants since the default is always quarter 1. Not a dislike, but there is a learning curve, and it can be a big adjustment. There are concepts in Aspen that are not in other SIS applications. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
When entering grades, Aspen refreshes frequently (like Google Docs) so your data doesn't get lost. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Aspen's visual interface is cluttered and hard to navigate. Many features are buried in menus that are hard to access and require long instruction sheets to figure out. The most frustrating part is posting grades at the end of the term -- that requires multiple steps for each class, for a process that seems like it should be able to be accomplished with one button push. Also, there's no apparent way to import grades from another source (like an Excel spreadsheet) which was a feature that was in the previous gradebook software that my organization "upgraded" from and was a huge time-saver. The live student and parent viewing portal so that everyone is up to speed on student performance Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Inputing data on a smaller device like a tablet or a chromebook is challenging since little of the screen is viewable; the slider bars don’t always show. Also, the program does not interact with our other major student management program: Schoology. If the gradebooks between the two were linked,
I’d be much more efficient. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The best part of aspen is the ability to filter lists of students in the global view Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I dislike that aspen does not have a robust information flow system for 1-to-1 schools. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It's easy to see this history of documents attached to each client. The tabs allow for easy navigation of this history, but looking up each client requires many, many steps to get there. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The system is maze-like and requires far too many clicks to reach a destination. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Aspen is a powerful too that can manage many aspects of a school environment.
I like the fact that it can manage teacher personal information in addition to grades, my school doesn't utilize this aspect of the program but it would help the school on a whole if we did. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There are some flukes with the software. It also doesn't work well with many student learning platforms that are available. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
