ArcGIS is a great mapping software for anyone who needs to consistently make maps or do spatial analysis. It has been the industry standard for a reason all this time. There are so many possibilities, and it's pretty common to find out something new you can do with the program that you didn't know about before. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It's expensive (prohibitively so for most individuals). Given that open source GIS programs are quickly gaining ground on ArcGIS, it's unfortunate that the program is not being made more innovative. It also can be buggy and crash sometimes. And the weird particularities that Arc has when it comes to working with data can be annoying. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

ArcGIS is an incredibly complete tool for geostatistical analysis, for the digitization and study of projects and for the planning of geographical strategies, for the design of marketing strategies. It is such a useful tool in so many areas that it is difficult for me to imagine any in which I would not have any possible application. I like its multiplatform adaptation and the different modalities and its advanced raster data processing functions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I understand that it is quite advanced and complex software, however I feel that it could work to be lighter in processing. Licenses are quite expensive, which makes considering largely free alternatives for data processing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The constant updates that keep us on the leading edge. The fact that the platform offers a solution for every need. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The need for change means we are always learning and it is difficult to steward solutions and to be of service when we have to both learn and then to share what we just learned. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Responsive customer service and support, not just on software issues but also technical issues and workflow solutions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I am a one person GIS shop servicing an an organization with very diverse internal departments (federal lobbying to benefits adminstration). My work flows tend to be bespoke, and the tools I need to use from ESRI (outside of Advanced Desktop) are always changing. It would be GREAT if I could use credits (or some other payment option) to use specific tools/extensions for a very short/time limted duration. Like--- could I buy Spatial Analyst/Business Analyst, etc etc etc for a month? Because I only need it for one project this year, may or may not need it again. Could need it again in a few months, or maybe the year after, or maybe never again. I have no ability to anticpate software needs based on how I provide GIS services to my organization. I want to pay for the services, and I have the budget to do so, but it seems like the only options are for year long seats that cost way too much to justify for a one-off project. ESRI arcgis is a must have for engineers. I have used it in the geospatial analysis of data and planning of projects. ESRI Arcgis is rich in analysis tools right from the development of maps and it has so many tools that imitate the actual feature on the ground during mapping or network developments. It is very comprehensive with its functioning since water engineers can use it to map out water networks, environmental engineers can use it to analyze changes in the environment etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Firstly, this tool is way too expensive for small companies.
The tool is so complex to use and the learning curve is very steep.
Arcgis does not have as many elaborate pluggins as QGIS software which is actually a freeware. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Makes working with geospatial data and analysis manageable Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Interface is extremely out of date and needs an modern update to make options easier to find Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
ArcGIS is a fantastic resource for creating maps and I use it very often to produce high level pdf maps as well as Google Earth maps for my company. It has a low floor and a high ceiling which makes it easy to understand for clients but able to produce a level product. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
ArcGIS can be a little complicated at times. However, they provide vast amounts of resources for understanding Arc tools. It can also run a little slowly, I have an i7 processor and it can still takes a while to start up. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
