What do you like best about DX?

DX is an opinionated thought leader in the DevEx space. I love how there are multiple channels (podcasts, webinars, social posts, public DX website docs, whitepapers, ELC annual presence, Lenny's podcast) to consume DevEx learnings without focusing too much on the actual product. Core 4 and DXI are also a nice way to tie together messages from Abi and Laura - their ability to evolve messaging and the product with a growth mindset is helpful. The Trumpet site and help from the sales team to provide talking points was far above the competition and helped ease a lot of the internal sales pitch I was making with respect to the advantages of DevEx and DX. I experienced low egos, high empathy and the willingness to continue a high-level of support after the contract was signed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about DX?

Lack of MS/AzureDevOps support. For full disclosure, I've spent 99% of my career working with Java and AWS, but now that I'm working in an all MS/ADO ecosystem, it would be nice to see closer feature parity.

I'd also suggest that DX invest more into ROI executive views, similar to the one provided for the AI/CoPilot dollars saved feature. This would help internal selling to execs even more than what's already available. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is DX solving and how is that benefiting you?

Product Description

DX is a developer insights platform, designed by the researchers behind DORA and SPACE. DX is the only solution that provides both qualitative and quantitative measures, helping developer productivity leaders pinpoint their biggest opportunities and translate their impact into dollars. Many solutions provide metrics - but most don’t focus on the right things. DX’s research team has developed a new approach to measuring developer productivity that focuses on the developer experience (see paper here). Developer productivity is complex and requires a comprehensive approach in order to fully understand. DX offers a suite of tools which help you capture data from surveys and systems, both periodically and in real-time. DX is relied on by developer productivity leaders at companies of all stages — from startups like Vercel and Brex to Fortune 500 companies like Pfizer and eBay. In addition to its products, DX provides expertise in implementation, program design, and transformation to help leaders adapt to changing environments and drive continued impact year after year.

What do you like best about DX?

- They snapshot surveys are quick to complete and insightful. Before adopting DX, at best our developer survey engagement was around 65% completion. After adopting DX, we had a 100% completion rate for the first time.

- The automated Slack DMs sent from our Director of Engineering to nudge developers to respond to the survey helped drive significant engagement.

- The snapshot survey results have been a great way to identify and quanitify problem areas in our engineering organization. This gives us a tangible number to work with in order to measure improvements we're making, while also giving each team the capacity to start addressing issues within their own team (like "Deep Work").

- The DX Frontline integration with Slack is a handy way to see at a glance which of our PRs have gone stale or need review. It also gives me, as an Engineering Manager, a quick view of what my team has been working on for the past week.

- Our customer success partners on the DX team were extremely easy to work with, and getting the everything set up seemed to be a painless process for our IT department.

- As the manager for the Developer Experience team at 7shifts, I make use of the DX platform multiple times a week to identify new initiatives for my team to focus on, along with long term goals to work towards. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about DX?

I don't have much to complain about with the tool, but there are a couple of things that could be better.

- When triaging our team snapshot results, it would be helpful to have a notes field to provide context for our action items.

-The data studio is a very cool feature, but it doesn't always quite work the way we'd expect (given that it uses AI to generate queries based on plain English input) and the associated graphs don't always look the way we want them to. Understanding SQL is still beneficial when working with custom queries. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is DX solving and how is that benefiting you?

DX has helped solve two main problems for us. We used to use Code Climate's "Velocity" tools, but the way they calculated their metrics always left information out which didn't give us an accurate picture. The other problem was the lack of engagement in our developer surveys. We used to use Google Forms to run a survey, but they took too much time for the developers to fill out and required a lot of time to triage the results and extract meaningful information. DX helped address both of these issues for us. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

This wealth of data is instrumental in shaping our productivity roadmap, helping us identify successes and uncover new opportunities.

The tool’s automation features, paired with seamless Slack integration, ensure high participation rates, making it easier than ever to gather actionable insights! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about DX?

So far, we haven't encountered any significant downsides. Initially, we noticed a few missing configuration options, but the product is evolving rapidly, with new capabilities being added regularly to meet our needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is DX solving and how is that benefiting you?

What do you like best about DX?

My company has been using DX for a few years as of Jul '24. We loved the product right off the bat and the surveys of our engineers were so useful that within 6 months we began presenting the results to the board of directors.

We've watched the product offering grow immensely over the years and every feature they've put forth has made the tool more useful, more easy to understand, and more valuable to us. We've expanded beyond the survey tool to tracking use and satisfaction of our internal tooling, tracking all of our DORA metrics and now we're seeing the big picture starting to come together about how developer productivity and satisfaction is impacted by how efficient our processes are.

No matter what size your company is, I highly recommend at least taking a look at DX. If you want your engineering organization to be effective and efficient DX will help your engineers report the issues, prioritize what to fix, and you can see the fruits of your labor over time.

It replaced Jellyfish for us and did a much better job of pointing us at problems instead of asking us to look at a dense dashboard of metrics and to divine the answers ourselves.

Highly recommend, love the team as well! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about DX?

DX is still the new kid on the block so they don't have the deepest product offering you can find.

What it does it does better than its competitors though. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is DX solving and how is that benefiting you?

DX for us works toward understanding developer productivity and what gets in the way of that.

Our goal as a company is to keep developer satisfaction high so they can be productive. DX helps us identify problems so we can fix them and show us through all kinds of metrics that our engineers are remaining effective. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about DX?

The tool allows us to obtain very important data from our engineering equipment and gives us the possibility to configure different measurement parameters, as well as to perform CSATs on more specific issues of each team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about DX?

One area for improvement is the management of teams and the configuration of persons/teams. Probably an API that would allow us to integrate this part with our tools would make it much easier and would allow us to spend less time configuring each Quarter.

Sometimes, we find unexpected improvements (not a bad thing) that we would have liked to know about beforehand. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is DX solving and how is that benefiting you?

We have been able to identify some recurring problems in the engineering team. The possibility to include comments, as well as the summary made by the AI, are good data that we get.

In addition, the comparisons, both between teams and with previous snapshots, as well as with the rest of the industry, is very relevant information. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about DX?

1. DX seems to support everything. It's really nice to be able to look at engineering sentiment, setup my weekly code reading, and also look at metrics in one place.

2. The site is very fast, which makes a big difference when skimming through feedback and work logs from large teams.

a. This really encourages me to do quick daily actions like reading through an engineers PRs before a 1:1

3. The notifications are excellent and have a very high signal to noise ratio. Almost every notification is something that I can or should act on.

a. The ability to also wire these notifications up for my team is nice Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about DX?

1. DX and DX Frontline seem like pretty separate pieces of software that you have to configure separately (eg. putting teams into both sides). This is a bit inconvenient.

2. Some features seem just a bit incomplete, eg. Frontline's calendar view is not as nice for quickly browsing work as some alternatives. It gets the job done, but it's missing a couple nice to have UX features. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is DX solving and how is that benefiting you?

1. Let's me quickly see what my engieneers are working on

2.Lets me summarize trends on a team by team basis Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about DX?

DX provides an actionable way to address gaps in the internal developer experience. Every Snapshot result points at specific issues that are slowing down or frustrating our Engineers, with the ability to slice the data across different dimensions. The anecdotal data from the comments, provides a lot more colour and allows us to find themes easily. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about DX?

I'd love to see more intelligence in the heatmap, with suggestions around how to better drill down on results. In an ideal world, the tool would tell us "this group of people feel this way because of..." across all of the dimensions, but that's not surfaced directly (you just need to do some analysis). They already started leveraging AI in the main screen so I can see how this would be possible in the future. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about DX?

Our company is very interested in building a highly efficient engineering organization and DX is instrumental in this. First off, the product gives us the ability to track team hierarchy information which was pretty much impossible previously. But the visibility we get from getting both the sentiment and quantitative metrics in DX is something we’ve never had before.

What we like best about DX is their methodology for measuring developer productivity and the research that’s gone into developing it. We also appreciate their additional consulting and support services to support us. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about DX?

DX has been a partner to us and has been very responsive when there’s a dashboard or a feature we’re wanting to see in DX. So right now, there hasn’t been anything they haven’t addressed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is DX solving and how is that benefiting you?

What do you like best about DX?

The support we've been having so far is great. Every request has been fullfilled one way or another.

New feautes are added frequently. The platform delivers what it promises and everyone feels satisfied from it (devs, team leaders, c-level). The integration was also seamless. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about DX?

There have been some changes in core features and the way the platform looks which disorients the users. Being under active development takes a toll on stability and user habits.

Also, trying to mix up a bit of everything to catch up with competitors might not be the best strategy in the long run. The platform was very inclined towards qualitative data but more data integration points are coming up to support quantitve data too. Let's see how this goes... UX of the product is great. Product is based on their own research on developer productivity.

I enjoy that the product gets constantly updated. They deliver really useful features almost every Q. DX team provide yiu with not just a product but also with a consulting of developer experience. Their sales and account team are doing great job with explaining you how the product work, analysing results of your company, listening to the feedback we provide, collaborating with Engineering Managers on how to resolve team's issues. What do you like best about DX?

DX is THE product for developer experience, on my side the possibility to gather the feedbacks and see the evolution of the action taken is fundamental.

Specially in an org that growth a lot, that evolve a lot it helps to improve and prioritize decisions, and to have also (after few iterations) some sort of "hysterical perspective" of these evolutions in product.

And this is just a fraction, there could be an impact on many other things (retention for example, educate teams to have a recurrent discussions on things, data to start those discussion etc) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about DX?

To be honest so far nothing, really nothing Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is DX solving and how is that benefiting you?

-Gathering feedbacks frequently

-Educate to a transparent feedback culture

-See correlations and prioritize our actions

-It's an amazing tool to start our product QBR

-helps to spot inefficiencies Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
