The tool is very intuitive and easy to use. The features are critical to complete audit work and once deployed by your IT, you can implement it on your jobs right away. Totally worth it investment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
DataSnipper is not a native Excel module and then requires a licensing and a specific IT treatment, also when navigating through big financial statements (800+ pages), the excel file can become a bit too big (50+/100+ Mb) which starts to be inconvenient sometimes but apart from these limitations that are not linked to the tool itself, it exceeds expectations in many ways. Datasnipper permits to gain a lot of time on low added value tasks such as copying datas allowing us to be more focused on deep analysis.
It offers a much quicker treatment of documents batch by matching them in a speed and accuracy manner freeing time to investigate and document deflections.
I'm using it on a daily basis on all type of documents (pdfs, excel, emails even photos) and for almost any financial cycle, it can even extract a General Ledger from a PDF in Excel in minutes.
On the top of it, it's simple and intuitive to implement on our own company templates. As the tool is still in the beginning of its implementation within our office I bet we will perform even better ounce we'll reach a full capacity for all our staff and be able to automate even further our work sheets.
The Icing on the cake : a nice and responsive support joined with a data banks of short videos illustrating how to use it and the capability of the tool. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I didn't find any big downside of using Datasnipper after a full year of testing + using. The one thing would be the weak compatibility with a tactile interface i wish we could use a touch pen for an "old fashinoned" way of highling... This is a detail. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I like best that I can highlight parts of a pdf, say a contract, and I can have my excel working paper link directly to the section I have highlighted. Also, lots of documents are received from clients as pdfs for an audit test and very often the documents are not titled in a very helpful way, so what was a very manual task of finding, (perhaps a handwritten) reference number to match a document to our sample, Datasnipper can just take me straight to that document. Really I use Datasnipper constantly in my everyday work, and certainly even the most basic features that took no time to learn, are incredibly useful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
As a downside, I have made a spreadsheet quite clunky when I had maybe 100 documents all with snips, but I've still given it a ten as I'm not sure whether that is too many for one spreadsheet, or whether there were other factors at play that made those spreadsheets operate slowly. I absolutely love the efficiency of the document function. Being able to snip in documentation minimises error and really saves time. It makes vouching documentation so much more efficient. My team uses DataSnipper nearly daily based on our tasks.
The most useful fuction in my field is the use of the Financial Statement Suite - it makes casting, consistency checks and prior year checks so efficient. The version control option also helps save time when there are a number of variations of financial statements. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The OCR is a hit or miss. Sometimes it picks up everything without an issue and other times it cannot recognise anything. It generally is more useful than not Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Great tool for compiling data from source documents (the OCR has great accuracy with good quality documents and acceptable accuracy for low quality documents).
Greatly reduced the time spent manually compiling data, particularly when there are many pages / documents. Great tool and is used often if you receive many documents with different templates.
Good support, quick responses, and the staff is aware where the tool excels and where it lacks.
Implementation was quick and painless, the tool can be found in the Excel ribbon,
Good interface for users with low literacy in technology. Very easy to use at different levels of experience (similar to the snipping tool by windows, but exports the snipped area to Excel). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Can slow down Excel at times (each update seems to have improved this issue).
Lack of customization (i.e., have certain options as default, create shortcut keys, etc.). This is a low priority issue and can be worked around.
Low ceiling and low floor skills - very easy to get into, but very small difference between a new and an experienced user. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but it could be rewarding for the more experienced users (ex: Excel rewards highly experienced users through speed and efficiency).
Cannot limit the number of active users (as defined by them), therefore some overflow can happen. Ex: reviewing an Excel document using the tool's reviewing abilities (i.e. view document on the side with the snipped sections highlighted) causes you to be labelled as an active user - even if you were not the one that used imported the documents or initiated the tool, further excaberating the overflow problem. To solve this, the initial user has to remove all traces of the tool from the Excel working paper prior to sending it for review. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Datasnipper has improved the efficieny of our audits. Tasks that used to take several hours such as call and casting a set of accounts, reviewing a large number of documents such as invoices and agreements now takes a fraction of the time. This allows our teams to focus on the areas that add value to our clients or require judgement. The software is easy to use and meant our teams adopted it quickly. There are no specific downsides, other there is a risk that the teams can rely too heavily on the software rather than checking through to ensure the results are correct. However, this is mitigated through training. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What I like most about DataSnipper is how much it speeds up document reviews and data extraction in Excel. It’s especially helpful when I’m dealing with repetitive documentation or lengthy documents, which used to take a lot of time to process manually. Now, tasks that would have taken hours are completed much faster and more efficiently. DataSnipper helps me focus on the important parts of my audit work without getting bogged down by routine tasks, making my overall workflow smoother and more productive. While DataSnipper is great for speeding up tasks, the least helpful aspect is that not all forms can be easily extracted when dealing with scanned documents instead of electronic ones. This can slow things down when manual input is needed for certain fields that the tool struggles to recognize. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I used Data Snipper for internal audit activities and I particularly appreciated that DS makes it possible to have an innumerable amount of documents available for analysis at the same time, providing the necessary information in one click, making smart the references of supporting documentation. Furthermore, its analytical capabilities allow unquestionable time optimisation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Sometimes, the immediate opening on the Excel screen when clicking on an analysed cell can be inconvenient when reviewing the file, so that one then has to constantly close the DS part of the screen. I would suggest that a display mode could be implemented in which the user could temporarily disable the immediate opening of the DS screen. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I like that it makes my life a bit easier when it comes to extracting the files. I used it quite a lot. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The tedious part about it is that I would need to remove the space line by line if the data that I snip is in paragraph. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I love that it is so easy to use, you will get how to use it right away without the need of reading any manuals. It is also very light add ons, does not make the excel file takes long to open/ crash eventhough it loaded a big amount of data. I also received compliments from my peers and reviewers because it helped them with review process without having to open multiple files and refer to them manually. It is also a great help for a translation tool since one of the features is very quickly turned images to text - it is very helpful for me as an international to translate non-english documents without having to manually copy the images to any translate tools :) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
i dont have any complaints so far as the user of datasnipper. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
