"Easy Targeted Messaging with Powerful Granular Audience Control"
5/5
What do you like best about Customer.io?

The ease of setting up and deploying targeted messaging is a major highlight for me. I really appreciate the granular control it gives over audience distribution, which makes it possible to build more complex flows while still keeping everything clear and manageable. The way it leverages data also helps ensure our communications feel personalized and relevant to each recipient, rather than generic. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Customer.io?

There’s a noticeable learning curve at the beginning. Some of the more advanced features can take a significant amount of time to master, especially if you’re not already familiar with event-driven logic. On top of that, the pricing can feel quite steep for smaller teams, and making small, iterative updates to active campaigns sometimes ends up being slower and more cumbersome than I expected. "Simple Setup and Intuitive Control for Customer Education and Announcements"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Customer.io?

The setup process is impressively simple. It gives product managers real control over customer education and feature announcements without relying on a dedicated technical team. I also appreciate how approachable the interface is for non-specialists, which makes it an efficient tool for release engineering as well as everyday marketing operations. What do you dislike about Customer.io?

Getting pixel-perfect formatting across the wide range of mobile devices can be challenging. The email editor occasionally calls for creative workarounds to keep the layout consistent from one screen to the next. Although the platform is clearly improving here, it still takes some extra effort to dial in responsiveness—especially when you’re working with more complex designs. "Powerful, reliable messaging platform with room to grow on price and AI"
5/5
What do you like best about Customer.io?

Customer.io is a solid product that has been genuinely helpful for our business. The platform makes it easy to set up customer messaging and automated workflows, and it has been reliable day to day. The visual workflow builder, segmentation, and behavior-based triggers are particularly useful for engaging the right users at the right time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Customer.io?

The biggest drawback is pricing. As your contact list and message volume grow, costs scale up quickly, which can be tough for smaller teams or businesses watching their budget. A more flexible or lower entry price tier would make the platform much more accessible. I would also like to see more AI-powered features built into the product, for example smarter send-time optimization, AI-assisted copy suggestions, predictive segmentation, and content personalization that goes beyond basic templating. "Highly Customizable but Setup Challenges Exist"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Customer.io?

I like how customizable Customer.io is to our liking. I appreciate the way I can customize an action to do what I want, rather than being limited to predefined options. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Customer.io?

The way it pushes data into Salesforce without giving us control over the API headers is a bit frustrating. For example, when Customer.io is trying to update lead details, it triggers the lead assignment rules every time it does an update. This happens because the 'sf-auto-assign' API header it sends is set to true for every call, and it should ensure that this flag/header is set to false during updates. Also, the initial setup was pretty hard, and we had to get external consultancy to build it. The customer support wasn't that great. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Intuitive Platform with Room for Customization Improvement"
4/5
What do you like best about Customer.io?

I like Customer.io for how easy it is to use and how simple the UI is. It's simple to understand and start utilizing, especially if you're coming from another CRM system with a different UI. You don't need to spend much time learning where everything is and can start setting up and send campaigns almost immediately. Functionality-wise, it's also not a bad option. The initial setup was quite easy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Customer.io?

I find some minor functionality lacking here and there, especially in email and push customization. The customization is quite limited in how the email can be designed using their email builder, and the same goes for push notifications. Visuals mean a lot in my job, so getting a great looking email in users' inboxes plays a significant role in conversions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerful Workflow Engine and True Multi-Channel Messaging in One Place"
5/5
What do you like best about Customer.io?

The dynamic workflow engine is extremely powerful and makes it easy to manage complex branching logic. Having true multi-channel support for email, SMS, and push notifications all in one place is a real game-changer. The recent addition of the AI assistant has also been a big help, especially for quickly generating campaign drafts and answering technical questions about the platform. What do you dislike about Customer.io?

The Design Studio could definitely use more variety in its layout options, especially when it comes to pre-made column styles like mural or newspaper-style layouts. I also find the reporting a bit too granular at times. I’d really like a more high-level, executive-style summary that highlights actionable insights, instead of focusing mainly on raw delivery metrics. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great platform for managing multi-client email — a big upgrade from SendGrid"
5/5
What do you like best about Customer.io?

The Ask AI agent feature is a real standout. It makes it quick to get answers and troubleshoot on our own, instead of digging through documentation or waiting on support. Another major win for us is the ability to separate messaging by workspace for each of our financial institution clients. We manage email communications for multiple FIs, and Customer.io lets us keep each client’s campaigns, branding, and data clearly separated—something we couldn’t do with SendGrid. That workspace separation alone has made client management and compliance much easier. Overall, it’s been a meaningful upgrade in how we handle transactional and lifecycle messaging across our client base. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Customer.io?

The Liquid templating syntax can be confusing at times, especially when you’re dealing with more complex conditional logic or email personalization. It’s definitely powerful once you get the hang of it, but there’s a real learning curve, and figuring out why a template isn’t rendering the way you expect often takes some trial and error. More inline guidance or validation while writing Liquid would go a long way toward making the experience smoother. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Intuitive Outreach Campaigns and Exceptional, Personalized Support"
4/5
What do you like best about Customer.io?

The user experience is very intuitive, and creating outreach campaigns feels straightforward and easy to navigate. I also had a great experience with the Support team. When I reached out with a question, they provided a tailored video walkthrough addressing my specific issue, which helped me resolve it much faster than a written explanation would have. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Customer.io?

There's nothing specific I dislike about the platform. The main limitations I encounter are related to our own internal data hygiene rather than the product itself.

One thing that would add even more value would be having a dedicated Customer Success Manager who could proactively guide us through features we're not currently using-or may not even be aware of-and help us identify additional ways to get the most out of the platform. "Modular design studio, AI integrations, and solid metrics for emailing"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Customer.io?

The new design studio allows you to create email templates easily, while keeping control over the code if necessary.

The support for components makes the design truly modular and helps maintain a single source of truth.

Customer.io integrates well with most AI tools via its MCP, which significantly reduces the amount of manual work.

The startup plan is a great boost for small businesses.

Finally, the metrics and goals on launched campaigns allow us to measure the impact of our emailing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Customer.io?

The user interface is quite heavy and often encounters loading issues, especially on Firefox.

Additionally, the site does not load when I am connected to a VPN. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Phenomenal Branching Logic for Readable, Complex Reactivation Journeys"
5/5
What do you like best about Customer.io?

The branching logic within campaigns is phenomenal. I can create complex reactivation journeys that adjust the content based on a user’s balance or specific transaction history, all inside a single workflow that stays highly readable and easy to follow. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Customer.io?

Not being able to pull historical event counts directly through Liquid is a major hassle that forces us into manual workarounds. Additionally, since we restrict email visibility for data compliance, searching for specific profiles during QA checks is much slower and more frustrating than it needs to be.
