What do you like best about commercetools?

Flexibility. Everything is an API. Easy to consume and mashup. The predicate language was powerful for setting up promotions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about commercetools?

Not all APIs had GraphQL end points, but they are moving there. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering commercetools:

Implementing a SaaS eCommerce system requires a knowledge of cloud architecture to fully take advantage of all the feature. The big advantage, no version upgrades, does add layer of continuous testing and or monitoring to ensure platform changes do not effect custom code, extensions, or the microservices integrations to up and downstream applications. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is commercetools solving and how is that benefiting you?

Single promotions engine across multiple catalogs. Multiple channels (web, mobile, in-store) and in some cases the channel had multiple catalogs (Private label, Marketplace, Employee) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about commercetools?

We like that commercetools has well-documented APIs that are fast and stable. We've rarely run into a use case that isn't solvable via their custom fields and custom types. Their platform also integrates easily with event buses allowing us to easily sync data to other systems. Their customer support team is easily reachable and very knowledgable about the platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about commercetools?

commercetools has well-documented APIs but requires a dedicated development team to create a headless storefront. The company is not optimistic about open-source software which makes us wary about the company's future. We've run into issues where their promotion engine is limited meaning we can't run discounts we need to. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is commercetools solving and how is that benefiting you?

commercetools solves the business problem we had. We needed to have a platform that wasn't slow and gave us the flexibility to make any additions to our website that we needed. We needed a fast, extensible, and robust platform to build a world-class shopping experience with multiple storefronts. Only a modern, headless platform like commercetools could support that. They need to improve their order management features. the pricing also needs to be more competitive. Lastly hosting options need to be improved and server location in Asia needs to be introduced to improve real-time delivery. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is commercetools solving and how is that benefiting you?

We needed an integrated commerce solution that could form the base of our loyalty portal. After looking at the competition we decided on commercetools mainly because of its flexible connector-friendly solution. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about commercetools?

The commercetools platform incorporates the ideals of modern commerce architecture. This means that our customers who invest in the commercetools platform realize the benefits of scalability and flexibility for their digital businesses. As a commercetools partner, we embrace the core principles of their solution as it lines up with the way we want to consult our customers and recommend solutions that fit their business. Commercetools is an integrator and agency-friendly organization for partnering. We share a vision, and more importantly, we share customer wins and long-term success. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about commercetools?

The vision for taking advantage of commercetools, and for adopting a headless approach to commerce, can sometimes be complex for companies to understand. We continue to improve our ability to articulate value to both technical and business buyers. This challenge actually creates strong opportunities for partners like DMI to play a more consultative role to companies considering this investment. As the adoption curve accelerates, I'm confident that the assets and solutions around commercetools will improve. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is commercetools solving and how is that benefiting you?

We believe that commercetools offers a path forward for companies feeling the pain of older, less flexible commerce technology. As companies accelerate into developing more sophisticated digital channels, they can feel limited by the investments they have made in platforms and tools. Our customers who implement commercetools gain a unique market advantage by achieving speed to market for new and updated customer experiences. Going cloud-native, with APIs and microservices gives our customers options without limits. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about commercetools?

If you think about history of commercetools and how it started:

- Development started in 2010

- Vision paper about headless commerce released in 2011

- Product Launch in 2013 (named sphere.io at that time)

What does it say? Well, commercetools predicted of how the eCommerce market will look like 10 years ago! It took them a LONG time to educate the market and explain the value of the product. If you think of the current state of eCommerce tech vendors, EVERYONE either is trying to go headless or are already claiming they are (even if they are not). Honestly, it is HARD to change your legacy software that you were developing for decades over a 1-2 years time and transform from a Monolitic architecture into headless.

So, what I like best? That commercetools always believed in this vision and never gave up, and now, that the market is ready and understood the value of Headless, they are years ahead of competition. There is still a lot of education to be done, however for those who get's it, I doubt that there is a better choice right now. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about commercetools?

It is hard to say what I dislike about it because I believe in everything commercetools do. Instead, I know what other people say, as they are evaluating commercetools: Oh, there are not that many features provided out of the box compared to other tools, I have to buy other 3rd party services to get what I am having now from one Vendor.

Well, that is exactly the point of Headless - you pick the best tools from the market, that focus on one and one thing only. Focus is the key to master anything you do, and the same goes for tech. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering commercetools:

Just try it and do POC during a free trial period. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is commercetools solving and how is that benefiting you?

For us, being a Bodiless Frontend, commercetools is just a match made in heaven. The frontend was never anything they focused on. Since commercetools is a headless commerce platform (body) and Vue Storefront is a bodiless Frontend Platform (head) what can go wrong? :) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about commercetools?

commercetools is very simple to implement; any developer can understand the basics in a day. It´s very flexible, so you don´t need to have a very detailed plan in place from day zero. You can start using a small piece, like PIM, or all the navigation, including pricing and inventory, and even within that phase, you can still do smaller intermediate deployments. This strangler approach allows for an easier learning curve, a reduced risk, the onboarding of the business users early in the project, and the implementation of a real Agile methodology.

Having access to any functionality or data object through the API, being able to suscribe to events for any change on any data object, and the flexible data model allows to implement a composable approach, giving the customer the power to select the best tool for each of their needs.

Finally, not having to worry about upgrades is a great thing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about commercetools?

I don´t think this is a problem, but it´s usually a "surprise" for new users. All the flexibility comes with a drawback; there are some things that you would consider essential that would require some coding to be implemented in commercetools, like returns for example. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is commercetools solving and how is that benefiting you?

Mainly being able to use the tools that I want to, the best OMS, CMS, DXP, etc for my needs, to have flexibility in terms of user experience, businesses process, etc, and, an essential thing is that I can switch all or some functionality from commercetools to other vendors at any time with low cost and risk, that means that I own my platform and I´m not married to any vendor. What do you like best about commercetools?

The flexible structure and ease of onboarding an instance. Plus robust and well-documented API library. Commercetools provides a lot of capabilities you can enable easily with modern experience technologies. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about commercetools?

Lack of integrations both inbound/outbound and middleware connectors.

It would be helpful to have a set of connectors for popular systems like Salesforce and SAP ready to be integrated. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering commercetools:

I would recommend Commercetools for the following reasons -

1. Flexible and scalable - building out a large ecommerce solution is readily available via the Commercetools structures.

2. Headless & Cloud Native - infrastructure and API library have been built to be headless and cloud first

3. Freedom on Experience layer - build your own with modern solutions like React and Vue

4. Resources - instead of deep knowledge on platform like monolith solutions, you need to find seasoned Commerce developers experienced in building API layers, GraphQL, middleware solutions and integration architectures. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is commercetools solving and how is that benefiting you?

Commercetools primarily is our headless commerce solution to integrate with various other content and experience platforms such as Adobe. It has allowed us to increase our offering to work with multiple platforms and increase our ability to prescribe an appropriate solution. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about commercetools?

This product provides the core toolset required for a digital commerce site so you don't have to build the basics. At the same time, there are very clean ways to extend and customize it. We were able to quickly build a product configuration and checkout flow for one of our clients. The speed of development and ability for business users to manage it blew them away. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about commercetools?

There were some limits on how many prices you can have for a given item, but I think you can request an increase. As a SaaS platform, it makes sense that you can't allow unlimited data without eventually running into a noisy neighbor problem. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is commercetools solving and how is that benefiting you?

commercetools combines the best of the build/buy options. You can use the undifferentiated features as-is, and when you want to add something unique, you can customize it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
