What do you like best about CatalogIt?

The cloud-based system allows us to view/edit from anywhere on any OS. The app is easy to use, and the database is robust. The outward-facing publishing allows our collection to be accessible to the public, with data updates showing instantly w/out having to 're-publish'. The customer service has been fantastic. As we have migrated our data from PastPerfect, our rep has offered free Zoom training sessions with my staff and checks in every couple of months to see how the program is working for us. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about CatalogIt?

Not being able to print directly to my Dymo Label printer is the only downfall at this point. However, the robustness and intuitiveness of the program far outweigh this minor inconvenience. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is CatalogIt solving and how is that benefiting you?

With our previous Collections Managment System, we could only update data from one location as it is a PC based software. As an arts institution that uses Mac OS - having a PC for the sole purpose of the collection was cumbersome and antiquated. With the cloud-based system, we are able to update data from anywhere and from any device. The freedom it has given my staff is a huge benefit. Also, we no longer have to pay extra to host our collection online giving the public greater access to our collection/research. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about CatalogIt?

The ease of access from anywhere was very important to us. They have also been very communicative and helpful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about CatalogIt?

This is a very powerful system that can be utilized for a wide range of collections, sometimes there are too many options, it would be nice to be able to turn off or hide features that aren't used by an institution. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is CatalogIt solving and how is that benefiting you?

We have multiple locations and team members that work off site. Being able to easily access the catalog from anywhere was the most important aspect. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about CatalogIt?

I have just implemented CatalogIt for an all-volunteer historical society. I'm impressed with its overall layout and features.

Training another volunteer to use CatalogIt was easy. I like that authority control is built into selected fields (author, publisher, etc). The Export feature is intuitive. Batch editing is available for some fields, such as categories and folders.

Customer support is excellent. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about CatalogIt?

I wish I could designate some fields as required. I also would like to be able to create a form for inputting books that limits the fields available (more than the program limits them). Other than that, I'm happy with the program. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is CatalogIt solving and how is that benefiting you?

The historical society has had no catalog or inventory of its collections. We have selected CatalogIt in order to have an inventory and an online catalog. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about CatalogIt?

My institution spent about a year researching different museum cataloging softwares before settling on CatalogIt, and I'm so happy that we decided to go with them. The software is fairly intuitive, while also offering pretty robust cataloging hierarchies that allow users to describe deep relationships between different objects and entities. Overall, it has been easy to implement at our site with about 4000 objects (though we're still very much at the beginning of the process) and I could see how it would scale easily, depending on how in-depth you need your catalog to be. The customer support is also absolutely top-notch; they are so responsive and knowledgeable, you get helpful answers within 24 hours. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about CatalogIt?

CatalogIt is definitely built to be applicable for a wide variety of physical collections, including art, botany, and ethnographic collections. Because of this wide reach, there are a lot of cataloging categories that I will never really need to use that crowd the data entry screen a bit. CatalogIt could also improve its archival cataloging capabilities, and I would love to see it grow in this direction. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is CatalogIt solving and how is that benefiting you?

CatalogIt is bringing our collection catalog into the 21st century - it's easy to use, it will help us publish our previously unpublished collection online (down the road), and it makes consolidating multiple digital objects into a single record a breeze. For our collection that combines art and history artifacts, it covers both types of objects well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about CatalogIt?

CatalogIt is a cloud-based, web, and mobile collections management system. It supports archival and object collections within one system. Conservation can be documented, and reports can be generated. One can create linked exhibitions and publications histories. The system is easy to learn whether you are a beginner or an expert. CatalogIt's customer support is helpful, responsive, and timely. It is among the most comprehensive collections management systems for its price and is a leader among its peers. The collections online HUB feature is exciting, and I am glad it has an API. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about CatalogIt?

CatalogIt has support for multiple file media file types, offers a light cropping tool and captions for media, but a more mature digital asset management approach would be a future benefit. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is CatalogIt solving and how is that benefiting you?

CatalogIt is helping my clients manage their archival and object collections. It enables my clients to access digitized collections and for their important assets to be better managed and preserved. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about CatalogIt?

It is easy to learn. The transition from Past Perfect to Catalogit went smoothly. We received excellent customer support. We are able to work more efficiently now. Everyone on staff has been trained and it was painless. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about CatalogIt?

Past Perfect had very structured search features that allowed for highly specific or focused search queries. However, Catalogit is so much more efficient in every way that it is a feature that we hardly miss. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is CatalogIt solving and how is that benefiting you?

We were using Past Perfect before Catalogit. Catalogit is helping us by being easier to use, easier to train staff/volunteers to use, makes it easier to find things in the database, move item locations, upload photos, and easier to search. We also are able to use the HUB and share our collections online for the first time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about CatalogIt?

This program is easy to use, once to watch the tutorials. It gives a lot of "bang" for it's "buck". With cloud services, easy photo uploading, app ability, multiple users and more, the program is completely worth the price. It has saved us a lot of time and energy compared to programs we used prior, and I cannot recommend this program enough. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about CatalogIt?

It is not intuitive where certain things and options are located, however one can watch the tutorials to easily master this program. Otherwise, I would love for their to be more options in laying out the "HUB" or online public part of the software. This HUB allows museums to share their collections to the public, which is great, but there isn't a lot of customization. That would be a great way to upgrade this software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering CatalogIt:

As I said above, I highly recommend this product. It is everything a museum may need for a nice yearly bundle price. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is CatalogIt solving and how is that benefiting you?

Our small museum is in the process of doing a complete do-over of our curatorial collections. We needed a reliable and easy software that could be updated from multiple computers at once. Thsi one fit the bill and budget. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
