BoardEffect Pros and Cons

We've been using BoardEffect since May 2021, and the experience has been very positive. This tool has transformed how we manage our board activities, making everything more organized, efficient, and accessible. The implementation process was fairly simple. We had a wonderful customer account manager assigned to us to ensure our successful implementation.

The agenda creation feature is wonderful. We can easily build detailed agendas with all necessary attachments and seamlessly share them with our board members. The minutes module is equally impressive, allowing us to take real-time notes and quickly circulate them after meetings. This has significantly reduced the time spent on post-meeting follow-ups and ensured that all decisions and action items are clearly documented and tracked.

The document storage capability is a game-changer. All our important documents are stored in a centralized, secure location, accessible to all authorized users at any time. This has eliminated the need for cumbersome email chains and made it incredibly easy to find the information we need during meetings.

I know there are other features that we are not using, but as soon as time allows, we will be digging into the additional features available.

Overall, BoardEffect has become an indispensable tool for our nonprofit board and staff. It has streamlined our processes, enhanced our productivity, and improved our overall governance. Our organization has a corporate governance board, as well as two advisory boards for key program areas. The platform has allowed us to streamline scheduling, communications, voting, and acts as a single source of truth for questions. It provides a place for new board members to locate historical information. It has reduced the "coversation by e-mail" that made many people feel behind on the discussion and overwhelmed. Pia who was our implementation advisor, was a great trainer, and made setting it up seemless. The ability to login to one place, and see everything has been transformational. Board members login often, and we use the system daily to support our governance and administration functions. It has easily integrated with our existing tools, including zoom for hybrid meetings. If you're not an active board, and not sophisticated enough to use all the features, it may seem expensive, however the longer we utilize the platform, we recognize that it is worth the investment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

We've been using BoardEffect at Boca West to organize our BOG and committee meetings and it has significantly streamlined our processes. The platform is pretty user friendly (video tutorials are helpful) and allows us to easily create, distribute and manage board meetings and materials. Utilizing Board Effect will help to reduce the time that we spend on adminstrative tasks, enabling us to focus more on the strategic discussions that matter most. The ability to securely share documents and communicate within the platform to enhance collaboration is a also a game changer. Allowing our Board members to access all Board matters and documents digitally through their tablets, we can greatly reduce our paper consumption and be become more "green." So far so good...the only recommendation would be to make the videos more engaging. The narrator is pretty monotone and not very engaging. Other than that, I don't have any complaints. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Outsourced IT so tech often struggled to understand what was being asked for, if any issue was proven to be a problem they would gaslight you and say it was supposed to be as it was.

Very difficult for board members to learn to use. Constantly logging you out of minutes because minutes are not housed within the platform. Publishing meetings was a nightmare because it made it impossible to make quick changes. Long and non-intuitive trainings when onboarding.

Although I believe it may be my connection, at times the meet book takes a while to create when building. It always finishes though! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The most helpful thing is the huge meeting books and attachments that don't need to be sent out via emails to my board of directors. Going to one place, a porta,l helps keep the meeting materials secure and private. Board Directors can make annotations for the rest of the board and or the chair or staff members to read and easily comment back or clarify.

It helps keep the packages and questions related to the package in one place and easily address.

The one thing I dislike the most is the licence limits. If ever there was a way for the Board of Directors and internal staff to share licenses that will be helpful! For my organization in particular, as we are a not for profit, I find the Sales Teams not flexible with pricing for adding licenses even if 1-2. I understand we may have already been given a deal from out the gate, but it was very shocking to get the responses of No from the sales team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I'm so excited to have my board online with BoardEffect! The onboarding and set-up were been great, it's very user-friendly, and any questions are easily answered with the help function (FAQs, video tutorials, etc.) I'm on here at least 2-3 days a week and love that it's given me a central place for documents, approvals, meetings, etc.! BoardEffect has a feature that can be integrated with the Microsoft Office suite which has increased our productivity. It is very friendly to use to conduct board meetings and handle documents in a fairly easy way. The agenda creation and the meeting alert features ought to be very useful as it cuts down time. The extraordinary customer support service is always willing to help the clients. BoardEffect’s biggest disadvantage is that it experiences technical difficulties from time to time even at sometimes that are vital. There is congestion in the sharing of information due to slow document upload. One disadvantage of the crossover design is that the number of features is enormous, which presents some difficulties during implementation. Such problems have not only slowed our operations and processes but have also made us spend more time on problem solving or contacting the customer support to help with a particular difficulty.
