I like the ease of use, and available features. I think Bb's hidden power is how scalable it is to a variety of instiutional sizes and uses. It is also reliable and currently has a very smooth error reporting process. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The gradebook, as well as assignments, tests and graded/grading items need some rethinking. We need additional flexibility to have this gradebook truly be useable for different circumstances - currently the focus is on very strict graded academic settings so it doesn't provide the flexiblity needed for more nontraditional academics. and repetative, experiential based learning. I like that it has a ton of features and integrations to function in an online or hybrid classroom. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It's too cumbersome. There's a lot of legacy built around new features. Many times it gets confused and reverts back to its legacy homescreen. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It's ease of use/navigation.
The gradebook is straightforward is simple to manage.
Posting feedback on submitted assignments works well.
Smooth course copy.
I have used Blackboard for over 12 years between institutions. I am now having to switch to a new LMS and prefer Blackboard better.
I used it daily and still use it at one institution. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The one main downside I have found with Blackboard that if I have a student that is allowed extra time I have to manually enter it for each quiz Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

This is not your father's Oldsmobile. Blackboard Ultra by Anthology has successfully made the shift from a clunky, inacccessible LMS to a well designed, accessible, streamlined course home for students and instructors. After trippling their development resources, Anthology is now leading the pack in learning management systems. The best thing is that students 'get it.' There is no confusing navigation inolved. This LMS comes with a clean design and industry leading AI-enhanced features that will allow instructors to focus on the things that matter.
It plays well with others! All of the major publishing tools and LTI integrations are available. The new LTI standards in use with Ultra allows for deep and seamless integration for students and faculty alike. Switching to Ultra is a breeze. Anthology know has an Ultra Adoption toolkit that makes implemenetation a much more manageable process that tyring to go it alone.
In summary. Now is the time to switch to Blackboard Learn Ultra by Anthology. If you are looking to making course content more accessible to your students, making the most of your instructor's time, and taking the step into next-level course management, then I highly encourage you to take the plunge! Note: Most of my dislikes about Blackboard learn are already on their roadmap for improvement. In the past two years, Anthology has been really reponsisve to client feedback, so we look forward to these frowns being turned 'upside down' in the future!
- lack of embedded images/links in emailed course announcement
- inability to post announcements to specific groups
- no subject on course messages
- Ally doesn't check HTML blocks on Ultra documents
Again many of the things I think are 'missing' are already on the roadmap....not evertything can be developed at the same time.
My one other 'disllike' is also being worked on. We have had more than one change in Tier one support over the past few years (as is expetcted when a company gets folded into another comapny). There have been some stumbles and growing pains along the way in front-line support and communication. As Anthology and Blackboard continue to evolve, I expect this to ameliorate. Ultra has a very clean fresh look that students appreicate. Feedback is that is is easier to follow and they really find the progress tracking helpful. The fact that the content can only be in one place makes it less confusing to the students. Once you have moved to Blackboard Ultra you will never want to go back. I do feel it is the best LMS on the market and only continues to make improvements. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I would say the biggest issue right now for instructors is the grading time. If that could be improved it would be wonderful. Also the students have a hard time "seeing" the feedback I leave as it is several clicks in. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
it's fairly to use. I am not too tech savvy and i don't have problems with assignments & announcements, etc. I don't use the other discussion functions, etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Giving feedback on written work is harder than it needs to be. It seems after I click return, I have to go back and reset the color, etc. When i have 40 assignments, it jus twastes my time.
Also, when I try to download their documents, they become PDFs. That's hard if i want to provifde feedback via WORD and the tracking codes, etc.
During a test, it appears they can access ChatGPT and google. That's counte3r intuitive for a test. If that can be prevented, our IT guys don't seem to know about it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I have worked with BB Learn in both a LMS technician and Online Design/Technician roles and I have seen both the backend and faculty/student facing aspects of Blackboard Learn. From managing the transition from Original to learn; I would say the most impactful aspect was the technical support and weekly update sessions provided by Blackboard. These aspects built a confidence in support of the product and mostly timely updates and releases ensured that the system kept running smoothly; even through hiccups.
The important thing to note is that continuous release means that the system is not released as a perfect model but will continue to evolve and hit snags along the way. The snags can be beneficial in re-working the way we think about both data management and content delivery and force universities to think outside the box. This push to creativity is necessary in the tremulous climate that higher education is facing and I feel has actually allowed colleges to push harder for online courses and education which has elevated its worth. Having a reliable LMS is vital when surviving a pandemic but also for creating new programs that can be offered solely online - this increases enrollment and reach for universities. While I appreciate the value of continuous release, the timing and punctuality of fixes is not always ideal. Often we are left encouraging faculty to stick it out until the fix comes through which can diminish their faith in the online learning environment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The student facing interface is very user friendly and so does the Admin panel. Over the years Blackboard has done some of the great changes which significantly improved the way we build the courses and then deliver it to multiple classes. The most important feature for us is the ability of the system to allow granular copy of content from a different sets of courses, which is really really useful. Absolutely loved the idea of Blackboard to come up with this feature. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The slowness due to having loads of content within the Ultra course, makes it difficult when you have to audit the courses before delivery. This is really annoying tbh and the same have been reported.
Other thing is the support, the staffs need to level up their knowledge and increase the response time. So far there is a very little improvement but a lot can be done in this area. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Very user friendly. It was easy to implement college wide. I used it everyday that I had it for all my class needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I would like to be able to have live discussions or chats. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I love the ease of being able to create modules. The newest features of being able to create images for each module creates a professional look. Students find it easy to use and frequently use it in their classes. I have easily been able to integrate my recorded lectures Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The only thing that I really dislike about Blackboard Learn is the difficulty in the gradebook at times. They have been working on this. I use an outside publisher for resources that are graded outside of Blackboard. Previously I was not able to assign a category to those incoming grades. This semester this problem is supposed to be updated and I look forward to trying it out. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
