Base SAS is used for Analysis and debugging. Also the SAS EG connects to Oracle, MS SQL and Hadoop so this is the biggest upside for data analysis and review. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Base SAS's UI is less modern and intutive compared to other IDE's like VSCode Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I appreciate Base SAS for its comprehensive set of data management, statistical analysis, and reporting tools, making it a versatile and powerful tool for data analysis and manipulation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Base SAS can have a steep learning curve for beginners, especially those new to programming or statistical analysis. Also, Integrating Base SAS with other tools or systems might not be as seamless as with some other analytics platforms. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It runs batch code very well and has options for form like entry in a an in screen view. Most of the legacy code we have was built that way, but now I mostly use it to run code I initially created in EG, but now want to run on an external scheduler that runs a bunch of different programs in different languages. It's really not suited for the new programmer or the programmer with a bad memory. I often struggle to remember the correct syntax or option names so I find it much harder to use than EG. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I'm using BASE SAS since long time almost 10 years. The best thing about Base SAS is its versatility and comprehensive set of data management and statistical analysis. One aspect I find challenging with Base SAS is its interface, it's not much handy to new user. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Base SAS is the best analytical tool, especially in the clinical trial domain and research, which needs statistical procedures. This provides easy-to-use-in-build methods with many options, fewer codes, and less complexity. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
SAS is expensive. This is not an open source and limited graphical representation tools are available compared to R. Text mining is free in R but in SAS. SAS is more of a procedural language in comparison to R. It has more lines of code than R. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
SAS has been around for many many years and is widly excepted as a powerfull analytic tool. Even with the next generation of SAS coming, Viya, knowing base SAS routines is a very great skill to have. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Not much, it is very great tool. More featureas are coming, but new features in the orriginal product have not come out lately. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Base SAS syntax language is easy to learn and can be used to manipulate the datasets and derive analytical reports. The language is like an English-speaking language in a code format. Base SAS syntax is not case-sensitive which is more convenient for writing a program code. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
it is not an open source and the cost for licencing is not economical, so it does not attract small enterprise business users. Graphical representation of the reports generated is not much effective or colourful comparing other sources as open source R can even produce effective graphs or other application. With BASE SAS only small and medium complex tasks can be done, and code writing is bound to the syntax designed for the application Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It is well known and respected by all industries. It is a good tool to learn to advance your careerer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It can be a little intimidating at first! I don't like building charts and graphs in Base SAS, but for analytics, it is unbeatable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
