What do you like best about Backendless?

The Backendless team have put together an extremely powerful plateform. It makes for easier and faster development with very few constraints and a lot of possibilities. Whether front-end design or database and API, or even server-side code, it's all possible, in multiple programming languages, but most importantly with Codeless, their home-grown visual logic design. But that's not all, the team is always there to help customers and they provide very reactive support, even to users like me who have started designing their product but not launched yet. I haven't started paying Backendless yet, and they have provided a lot of quality help. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Backendless?

I have discovered Backendless only 6 months ago, and judging from the support forums, the product has gained a lot of maturity in the last years. There are still some enhancements which could make the developer's work easier and faster, like being able to copy-paste from one component or page to another, and importing external data in a more user-friendly fashion. But the team is working on it and they are getting there. The platform is already pretty mind-blowing ! Also, the written documentation is sometimes lacking. There are tons of videos but I prefer reading to video-watching. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Backendless:

I strongly suggest doing the initial "missions", which makes getting up to speed faster. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Backendless solving and how is that benefiting you?

Backendless enables me to set up an entire database and API in a snap, without having to deal with any infrastructure or scaling issues. The UI builder and their Codeless tools enable me to prototype and build an end product faster than if I had to code it all. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Christopher Fanchi of Backendless

Thank you for the feedback! In fact, a number of items in the "dislike" section are high priorities on our roadmap. For example, we released an update at the end of April providing improved copy/paste functionality for Codeless blocks. This allows you to copy all or some of the Codeless logic from one component in UI Builder and paste it into another. Additionally, we will be publishing improved written documentation for UI Builder and Codeless blocks this month (May 2022) because that is a very frequently requested item. We hope this will help you get your app to launch even faster!

What do you like best about Backendless?

It is a significant solution package with a complete set of features for developing mobile and web applications with the backend. Being a backend developer I use backendless for developing APIs. Making documentation of the APIs and sharing it with other developers is also made very simple. The best thing about it is that we can test frontend and backend communication without integrating the APIs. Multiple user support is also a great feature. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Backendless?

The User Interface should be improved. Sometimes it gets a little messy when a lot of data is being loaded. You need to have coding knowledge up to some extent to use its features. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Backendless solving and how is that benefiting you?

I have been creating backend APIs for mobile and web applications using Backendless. It is a very smooth experience, creating and testing APIs, creating documentation and examples, so your team can test the APIs, Integrating APIs with the frontend and the best part is you don't need to integrate APIs and can test your website harmoniously. Plus multiple users can work on a project simultaneously. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Christopher Fanchi of Backendless

Thank you for sharing your use case with API development, Ganeev!

What problems is Backendless solving and how is that benefiting you?

I write mobile applications that require an API / remote Data store. For the application work I do, I would normally need a backend dev to assist, but Backendless is intuitive enough that I was able to create teh schema and interactions I needed Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Backendless?

It gives us a very systematic approach to develop APIs for mobile and web applications. We can create our own workplace where different users can work on the same thing at the same time. We can create and share API documentation with other developers. The best thing about it is that we can test functionalities without frontend integration. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Backendless?

Coding skills are needed up to some extent to use this software. The user interface is a little messy which can be sorted out for a better experience. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Backendless solving and how is that benefiting you?

Building APIs for web applications. Team workplace is the best feature, as multiple developers can interact and work at the same time. Saving API request examples and sharing documentation is also made very efficient. Testing different features of the website without API integration is also a helpful feature. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Christopher Fanchi of Backendless

Thank you, Mehak! We're glad you've been able to benefit from our team-oriented development approach, particularly for creating APIs.

What do you like best about Backendless?

Backendless takes a huge chunk of the uncertainty of backend infrastructure out of the equation when starting a new app project, it scales with your app and provides a very useful api that can be leveraged easily. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Backendless?

We've had quite a few occasions where we need to escalate to support because of various code that didn't work on the backendless side, especially when developing server-side apis in Java. That said, the support team are always on hand via slack and the support forum and generally fix issues pretty quickly! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Backendless:

Give it a try, they have a great sandbox free plan that you can develop with! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Backendless solving and how is that benefiting you?

Using backendless we created a venue finding app in the UK that leveraged backendless's unlimited scaling infrastructure and super handy location-based query ability in the db. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Christopher Fanchi of Backendless

Thank you for the kind words! We pride ourselves on providing the best support in the no-code industry, so we're pleased to hear we've been able to help anytime an issue was discovered. And thanks for shouting out the Springboard Plan (aka development sandbox)!

What do you dislike about Backendless?

The way to extract information from data tables, sometimes is not easy as a relational database. Also, at the beginning in my development, some functionalities (like push notifications for Android and Apple) doesn't work properly Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Backendless:

The data storage is something to consider, if the data is complex, probably you will need another service Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Backendless solving and how is that benefiting you?

An easy way to deliver Augmented reality to our customers to sell different kinds of products like shoes, cloth, etc. When I analyzed the platform at the design time, Backendless offered Unity support, that was the key point to select the cloud provider Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Christopher Fanchi of Backendless

Thank you for the feedback! We understand that it can be somewhat difficult to work with the database at first blush, but we cover database interaction in great detail on our YouTube channel. Particularly, in our Codeless Fundamentals course (linked below), we go into great detail about working with data using Codeless logic, which includes server-side logic and logic built into your APIs. If you haven't had a chance to review that course, we highly recommend it!
