My firm likes the redistricting tools in Apache. What used to take hours in ArcView we can do in minutes now. The software has a lot of the same features as ESRI's products, but it is less expensive and you don't have to buy the add-on extensions to get the same kind of analysis. My firm changed to Apache about three years ago and it was the best thing that we ever did.

Apache Open Climate Workbench is a software that takes as inputs a variety of different resources which are outputs from a variety of different sources such as ESGF(Earth System Grid Federation), the U.S. National Climate Assessment, the Coordinated Regional Climate Downscaling Experiment, and the North American Regional Climate Change Assessment Program and temporal/spatial scales with remote sensing data from NASA, NOAA and other agencies and performs climate model evaluation. The Apache Open Climate Workbench software's UI is not very smooth and user friendly. The polishing could be better and it could be a little smooth. It sometimes takes time to open the maps and also display combined maps.
