I am thoroughly impressed with SimSolid's speed and low processing power consumption, even when solving complex problems. The interface is well-organized, providing a clear workflow that is easy to follow. Additionally, the software is easy to install and quickly ready for use, making it a highly efficient tool when combined with its rapid processing capabilities. Altair SimSolid is an unparalleled tool, allowing you to evaluate design concepts in seconds until you find the one that performs best and meets the specific requirements of each project. The learning curve of Altair is very fast, with short, intuitive, and sufficient training sessions to get you started working on your own projects.
There are two aspects of Altair SimSolid that I find most noteworthy: (1) Automation of preprocessing, and (2) the evaluation of new models. (1) Reading complex assemblies is very fast, and the software is extremely capable of correctly recognizing contacts, welds, and even bolts/nuts, without requiring CAD simplification. (2) Once a simulation model is created, it is very simple to duplicate it and apply it to a new geometry without making major adjustments.
I use Altair SimSolid in my projects because it allows me to evaluate the performance of complete assemblies at a very low computational cost, speeding up my design processes. Finally, it is worth noting its compatibility with other Altair products, enabling the verification of models with traditional finite elements (with mesh), complementing the analysis with topology optimization, or even evaluating multiphysics with EDEM. The most helpful feature about simsolid is its quickness in pre-processing a model. When in need of a quick simulation for verfifying things, Simsolid is the best because you can quickly generate the model. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There are few downsides related to it. If I were to find some disadvantage, I would say it is the hard time you will have when trying to track down the incertanties inside the model. But honestly, if you got to this point you should just use Hypermesh... Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There are two major advantages. First, you can bring in large assemblies like an dozer or excavator frame and it will easlily connect or determine the contact between items that are not contacting or that are interfering. This allows one to bring in files or components that are designed for manufacturing like large weldments without having to alter them first to have exactly face to face contact. The other is that after bringing in the large assembly, you do not have to mesh it to be able to do contact analysis.
