By performing structural analyses on fully-featured CAD assemblies within minutes, SimSolid is the game-changing simulation technology for designers, engineers, and analysts. It eliminates geometry preparation and meshing: the two most time-consuming, expertise-extensive, and error-prone tasks performed in a conventional structural simulation. Multiple design scenarios can be simulated quickly under real-life conditions. Early CAD models, in any common format, can be used. SimSolid tolerance of imprecise geometry means that, unlike CAD-embedded simulation tools, there is no need to simplify complex geometries before analyzing designs. SimSolid supports all typical connections (bolt/nut, bonded, welds, rivets, sliding) and analysis of linear static, modal, thermal properties, along with more complex coupled, nonlinear, transient dynamic effects.

**What do you like best about Altair SimSolid?**

Simsolid has been great for quick iterations of parts. I have used frequently to compare different potential designs. Because it is so much quicker to set up and solve compared to traditional 3D CAE software, it greatly improves the speed at which i can iterate.

**What do you dislike about Altair SimSolid?**

I am not as confident in the simulations as I am with traditional 3D CAE software. This is because I cannot see the mesh it is creating, so it is harder to trust that the simulation is accurate. More materials in the database would be nice

**What problems is Altair SimSolid solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is helping to shorten my part design cycle because iteration in the early stages can be done much quicker.

All the meshless process is a huge help when handling large assemblies or assemblies with big differences in component sizes. That and also the small effort to set up an analysis and run it, despite the complexity of the model.

The lack of control in assuring the convergency of the results

Mostly managing and handling large assemblies containing both big and large components and also small or thin components. 
It greatly improves the time to set up and run the analysis, being much less time consuming than the regular FEA solutions.

**What do you like best about Altair SimSolid?**

I really liked the flexibility and the number of features that this sofyware bring to even small organizations and companies, and i think it really is and easy software to learn! The customer support is extremely fast, i personally tested it since i needed it for some new keys for the company i work in.
i usually use this software in association with other design softwares, so it's easy to implement even in a strict workflow.
I use it at least twice a week and even if i don't use it as much as i'd like it still serves me great!

some functionalities like the graphical loads or excels should be better implemented.

As a user of Altair SimSolid, I have noticed a few downsides to the software.

One of the biggest issues I have encountered is the lack of a troubleshooting tool when the analysis does not run. This can be frustrating when trying to determine the cause of an error and finding a solution.

I have also found it difficult to combine individual results in SimSolid. This can be a hindrance when trying to analyze multiple scenarios or loads.

In addition, SimSolid has limited ability to model the time-sequence of different loads, such as pretensioning of bolts and press connections. This can be a limitation when trying to accurately simulate real-world scenarios.

The meshless method that Simsolid uses a different approach but is useful to perform various analysis at a faster pace thereby taking design decisions a bit quicker.

The results we get from Simsolid arent comparable to what we get in other Altair products. Still not sure if it is good to get the numeric values of the results one wants to view or the distribution of the stresses in a certain component for example.

**What do you like best about Altair SimSolid?**

It talks pretty well with CAD, bringing in parts and identifying connections etc.  Easy to use and quick to run for some pretty complex assemblies (>100 parts).  The interface works well, and designers pick it up pretty quickly.  Can be a real time saver for design.

**What do you dislike about Altair SimSolid?**

Unable to edit or manipulate parts once they are imported, so if they need to be moved then that needs to be done in a CAD program and reimported.

Bolt preload capability is a bit mixed, and our experience is that it has some bugs in it that mean that we now don't use it.

Unable to do more than one thing at a face on a part.  For 90% of problems this is OK, but for the remaining 10% it's  impossible to work around and we have to resort to full FEA using another package.

Can sometimes get some funky results with contact stresses and parts that are small compared to the computation space.  These manifest as hot/cold spots and so a pinch of salt is needed when interpreting, including either hand calculations to check a result or re-running in FEA proper.

It's too easy for a user to generate acceptable results that are wrong due to incorrect constraints etc.  However it is quick to run and hence once changes are made then updated results are not far behind.

There are a range of settings that can be played with, including a 'refinement' option when looking at results, and all of these can change the reported stresses, without any clear indication of which settings are best / most correct.  It would be good if some guidance could be provided on when it is appropriate to use which settings etc.  Or even remove some of the settings?  Why not always show fully refined results?

SimSolid helps us to quickly look at the displacements and stresses arising from complex mechanical design.  We can quickly take CAD through to results and hence make changes early on in the design process to either part details or assembly arrangements.

It deals with contact and connections between parts very easily and makes potentially very complex FEA problems easy to evaluate.

Altair SimSolid is the best solid modeling software on the market, but there are a few things that we don’t like about it. First, the learning curve is a bit steep. SimSolid is very fast and easy to use in the pre-analysis settings being mesh-free: it is sufficient to have the 3D model to analyze available. And then, for sure, it is highly regarded for its speed of analysis.

It is not possible to edit the element's geometry directly via the software. Some options are still missing (for example: reading the results according to a user reference system, connections with springs can only have linear behavior, not differentiable between compression and traction). The results must be taken for granted, there is no way to investigate the correctness of the analysis except through benchmarks. It is difficult to analyze complex structures due to the high number of connections to examine/modify.

Linear and non-linear structural analyses for secondary structures in the civil sector (curtain walls), for which another mesh software would require much more time, especially in the repeated studies of modifications made with a view to an optimal solution.

Although is powerful and quick, the graphics and interface need updates. It is a completely different product from other Altair products. Hard to pick/select. Cutaways are difficult to use. The simplified and clear GUI and user interface are excellent. Large assemblies and CAD models can be easily handled and it does not cause any performance issues.

To understand this novel discretization method in practice to be able to select correct modeling techniques for each simulation/physics problems (what to watch for, what to avoid, what brings inaccuracies etc). For instance with larger and more complex geometries the displacement and stress results in a static linear simulation do not seam accurate +- 50% deviation.

The best in Simsolid is that Simsolid is meshless and very very fast. After minutes I have an answer for my question about construction. No specialistic fem knowledge is need, no time consuming meshing. Just calculations.

The analysis and setup time solid are excellent, especially for simple (linear) analysis. I have successfully taught CAD users to use simsolid, and they were able to integrate this into their workflow - before sending it to the analysis department for QA/QC and further analysis.

**What do you dislike about Altair SimSolid?**

Often, CAD we get isn't optomized for SimSolid (particularly solids passing through solids, or unphysical gaps), a lot of this is CAD related rather than Simsolid. We did find after getting CAD people to use SimSolid, they understood how best to implement their CAD models to improve our workflow. The non-linear analysis, can scale poorly vs the linear analysis. So we generally stuck to linear and non-linear and moved to Optistruct etc.

The use case was generally frame-like structures, under quasi-static loading. The workflow was moving towards highly dynamic transient loading - so we explored some of the transient capabilities also.

No meshing, very quick solver, does not have any problems with a model that includes secondary items which are not necessarily meant to be analyzed.

Analysis approach of bolted connection (especially pre-tensioned bolts) is not matching my expectations. Connection definitions for bolts are sometimes limited, therefore impossible to approach reality. Weld types are limited. Sometimes geometry also makes it impossible to apply welds (e.g. sharp edge on a (circular) surface). Old analysis models up to certain versions can no longer be opened with the newest versions.

**What do you like best about Altair SimSolid?**

In the Product or process development phase we need to perform many iterations. For each iteration performing regular(mesh based )CAE is time consuming. Simsolid can be useful to run quick simulations and save lot of time

**What do you dislike about Altair SimSolid?**

Need to add geometry edit options to do quick changes

**What problems is Altair SimSolid solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Simsolid is solving Linear/NonLinear Static and also Vibration problems accurately

**What do you like best about Altair SimSolid?**

Incredible calculation speed, mesh process is not needed and license cost at a reasonable level compared to more sophisticated applications. Good level of service from the local dealer.

**What do you dislike about Altair SimSolid?**

Integration with SolidWorks is a bit old-fashioned, a separate application is needed instead of add-ins.

**What problems is Altair SimSolid solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Users without FEA experience or skills can independently evaluate own plans reliably.

**What do you like best about Altair SimSolid?**

Simsolid offers mesh-less capability for FEA. The UI is good for beginners. The sequential non-linear analysis capability is much appreciated.

**What do you dislike about Altair SimSolid?**

The flexibility of conventional tool is missing. Simsolid has to bring more simulation methods and physics in.

**What problems is Altair SimSolid solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Screw joint analysis using sequential non linear analysis. The meshless capability reduces the model setup time.

**What do you like best about Altair SimSolid?**

It helped us to run simulation in second to minutes.
It's support system is great to it's user's since they normally respond fast.
It's very straightforward and it has helped us get first impression of system behavior.
Also I like it's ease of use and fast interation of designs.

Honestly I haven't experienced any major flaws while working with it, it's the best!

It gives us quick results with satisfactory level of accuracy.

Don't have mesh to simulate, just made the analysis on a solid, that is amazing, the calculation time is so fast.

The interface is not so friendly and modern.

Solve the long time to simulate and the need of model simplification, the other softwares need simplification.

The easy to use interface is one of the best features of Altair SimSolid. Designing is less time consuming and analysis can be done with minimal complexity anytime.

**What do you dislike about Altair SimSolid?**

It lacks some features which are available in other online and offline software. Although it can be added and user experience will be highly great after these are added.

Altair SimSolid helps me in analyzing the performance of the structures in the best simulations provided at its interface. As an engineer, it is easy to use and less time consuming.

It is easy to use when compared with other options, and the design varieties are superb. The user interface is engaging and provides various options to choose from.

**What do you dislike about Altair SimSolid?**

Minor features are missing when compared with other options, and I feel if these are added then the product will be more viable and better to use for structural analysis.

It helps me perform structural analysis on CAD assemblies in a very short duration. Simulation technology is extremely helpful for engineers in my field of work.

The ease of use, very easy to set up constraints and add load cases - then analyse the results.

Can get a little confusing with contacts.

It is solving the parallel phase of design and FEA, allowing both to be completed simultaneously instead of one after the other.

Possibility to directly import native CAD model.

**What do you dislike about Altair SimSolid?**

Postprocessing is not userfriendly and  not customizable.

**What problems is Altair SimSolid solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Simsolid for modal and linear static analysis. It helps me to evaluate preliminary geometries in few minutes.
