What do you like best about Aleph?

Aleph easily works with other softwares. Aleph is capable of holding billions of records and has many features to help you acquire, control and manage your data records. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Aleph?

There are too many ways to do one thing. There is no straight-forawrd way to work with your data. We use an earlier version of Aleph where any saved files or reports are sent to a scratch page so it does not crowd the server, I suppose, but this adds an extra step every time I wish to change a batch of records, Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Aleph solving and how is that benefiting you?

I work in a library, so almost all of our books and publications are cataloged and displayed using Aleph. We do everything with this platform including cataloging, acquisitions, reference and circulation, collection management, and metadata manipulation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Aleph?

Aleph has all those things that makes it stands out all the Integrated Library Systems.

It is easy and intuitive to learn and to use.

Students and faculty can participate, give training, create documents and discuss on forums in the most convenient way possible. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Aleph?

In my supposition, in any case, the greatest drawback is that it has yet to be ported to OS X, and the vast majority of the PCs that I consistently use at work are Macs. It crashes at times, however this is less the product's issue and more because of the infrequent server crash. Apart from this, I'm very much satisfied with Aleph. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Aleph solving and how is that benefiting you?

Aleph has proven helpful in institutional performance goals to improve student success rates and faculty concerns about students' ability to search for and evaluate information accurately.

A lot of students now have access to public forums where they can discuss about all their doubts and keep themselves updated with all the latest news and discussions across the campus. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Aleph?

Given how much it's capable of doing, it's surprisingly easy to learn. I find the circulation module to be especially usable, but the cataloging module is also very straightforward. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Aleph?

It crashes occasionally, but this is less the software's fault and more due to the occasional server crash. The cataloging module is MARC-specific -- though, this is not necessarily a drawback for most libraries. New versions do not necessarily add new features, such that I would be hard pressed to tell one version of Aleph from another. In my opinion, however, the biggest downside is that it has yet to be ported to OS X, and most of the computers that I regularly use at work are Macs. In order to access our ILS, I have to find a Windows computer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Aleph:

Having not used any other integrated library system, it is difficult for me to recommend Aleph exclusively. However, in my experience, it has been exceedingly useful in multiple capacities. The cataloging module is great for MARC metadata, and the circulation module is perfect for tracking transactions. The occasional crash is inevitable, but this is to be expected of any software (especially those that are locally hosted). In all, I would say that Aleph is an excellent ILS. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Aleph solving and how is that benefiting you?

Various units in our organization use different features in Aleph. Personally, I have used the circulation and cataloging modules, both of which are responsive and user-friendly. The cataloging module is designed specifically for MARC, so if you are using EAD or another metadata format, you will have you find a different system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
