I have been trying out different companies and Afforai so far has been the best. I have many books and I upload them through pdf/doc and I use them to learn, summarize and connect them. As a native French speaker, I want to share my perspective on what could be improved in Afforai, particularly since I use it almost exclusively for creating French-language content.

While it handles basic French content competently, some of our language's unique expressions and sentence structures aren't always interpreted with the same precision as English content. As someone who creates French articles daily, I notice that idiomatic expressions and typically French turns of phrase sometimes require additional refinement.

I'd particularly appreciate seeing more templates and examples specifically tailored to the French market. While I can adapt existing templates, having resources directly designed for our cultural and linguistic context would be a significant enhancement. The French writing style, which often differs from English in terms of structure and formality, would benefit from more specialized attention.

Another aspect that could be improved is the detection of French stylistic nuances. Sometimes, the reformulation suggestions don't fully account for the specificities of our language, particularly regarding different registers (casual, formal, professional) which are crucial in French professional writing.

I've been testing out Afforai for a bit now and honestly can't believe how valuable it has become in my content creation workflow. Since we work with a lot of sensitive content topics, it's always good to citate some valid sources at the end of our content.

If you've ever tried researching medical stuff, you know how frustrating it is to find actual legitimate sources. Most AI tools just give you general info without telling you where it's from. That's because of the way, the AI calculates the next word. This also leads to a lot of hallucination.

I like how easy it is to organise things as I need for my research.

For example, I like very much the option to upload and organise references as I wish and then when I ask a question I can choose whatever documents I need from any folder. I can't do that with Notebook LM and it is worth using AffordAI even only for that. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Afforai helps me organise, interrogate, and quickly review my research papers and textbooks. It helps me conceive and comprehend the direction of my research and focus on relevant threads to pursue. It cuts out the bloat and rabbit holes that I have wasted time on. It makes sense to let AI synthesise your collected literature and "train" it to help your research with sound citations.

The offering includes ample storage, AI models, and all features (chat, citation manager, markdown writer) and integration (MS Word) needed, as well as API at a fair price.

As a researcher, I will always want to keep an offline backup and I will always want to collaborate with colleagues, both of which require Zotero, which we love. It's also where I would make my notes rather than online. One-way synchronization so that Afforai adds the AI, which a free open source app will not offer anytime soon, is therefor needed, and the import functionality doesn't offer this as of yet. It would be a killer feature.

There is no app, which is not very problematic, but when using Afforai as a Safari link on iOS, the interface isn't very stable and is crowded with ads and a clippy-like help icon. This should be fixable. An app could also be nice and may help with downloading papers and synching with Zotero, but I can honestly live without it.

The chat functionality is only text-based, which I regret as making pictures of tables in print or drawing conceptual models by hand and with flow charts is also very much part of my work flow.

Finally, and most importantly, because this is about work and hence a serious matter, I honestly cannot stand the agressive marketing from AppSumo, making their products look like scam for a niche of naive nerds. I will be very happy if Afforai turns out to be a good product which will be widely used at research centers, but the sales method looks desparate to me and seems to hide product flaws, leading to buyer's regret. A good product sells itself without so much noise and glitter. I also found the app when looking for an AI solution to help going through the literature, as an alternative to Perplexity or Scite.ai, which are good but expensive and don't integrate our offline literature archive but cite whatever they have found for free. I did not buy it because AppSumo spammed me, yet now they do. For sure, it helps that the pricing is right, but that's not marketing, it's just fair business. What I love about Afforai is its minimalist interface—it's very intuitive, and there are several GPT models I can use to query documents. What I don't like about Afforai is that, for now, there isn't a mobile app, and you can only upload documents through a browser on a PC. Although switching the browser's compatibility mode to desktop allows me to do it, the interface isn't very user-friendly. I hope they release a mobile app soon.
