What do you like best about AWS Single Sign-On?

I like that it is an AWS native SSO offering, that integrates with AWS Directory services and Windows Active Directory. I have used this in a lab environment and it was easy to set up. I like that I can have a single source for authenticating users, which saves me from creating Active Directory users and AWS users in IAM. This is also more secure. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about AWS Single Sign-On?

I have not found too much not to like. It does not support providers like Google and Apple natively, but I think with SAML it is possible. If it is not possible, AWS Cognos will fill this need. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering AWS Single Sign-On:

It can be a little tricky to set up, but once it is done you'll have an excellent service. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is AWS Single Sign-On solving and how is that benefiting you?

The complexity of having multiple accounts for a single user. This saves time and troubleshooting when any user is having issues. It allows for easier group management with Active Directory. I can create a group in Active Directory and then assign a role and policies to that group in AWS SSO. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about AWS Single Sign-On?

The promise of a single login and simplified management of role assumption access to multiple accounts. It works okay for the console. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about AWS Single Sign-On?

The multiple CLI tools and SDKs do not play nice with SSO and role assumption which is critical to developer workflows.

Amplfy for example doesn't yet work with sso, https://github.com/aws-amplify/amplify-cli/issues/4488. neither does Terraform.

Configuring and using SSO requires a lot of additional command line arguments and remember a lot of various id. There is a whole niche universe of tools like https://github.com/benkehoe/aws-sso-util and https://github.com/benkehoe/aws-export-credentials that are built to work around the issue with the SSO experience for CLI uses that demonstrate the immaturity of the product.

For a good developer experience with good security isolation via multiple accounts setup, you still need to manually create tokens in each environment for your developers. The entire point of SSO is avoid that overhead.

I can't in good conscience recommend that companies use SSO for their development and devops teams, which I suspect are the majority of AWS users.

I'd assume all the Rah-Rah reviews above are people who don't really have to deal with the pain and frustration development teams with a devops practice have to go through to try to use this tooling, or they're paid reviewers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is AWS Single Sign-On solving and how is that benefiting you?

Secured Multi-Account Setup with AWS SSO. We haven't realized any benefit yet. I Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
