The integrations for Solid Edge Siemens products are not mature enough for us to utilize the solution. We were not able to get the system to work for us, unfortunately.
Additionally, the 1-year required pricing model made it nearly impossible to evaluate the system fully before we purchased. They locked us into a 1-year contract because we wanted to evaluate features that were only included in their "Enterprise" plan which requires a full year contract. They advertise a monthly cost, but don't allow for monthly subscriptions.
The 14-day trial is not nearly enough time to fully evaluate the software, and we didn't run into any significant issues until after the trial ended. We thought we would be able to use the software and justified a 1-year contract, and ultimately ended up finding many issues with the Solid Edge integration. It would have been better if OpenBOM could provide a monthly subscription for the Enterprise features at a higher cost that we would have happily paid to better evaluate the software before commiting to a 1-year term.
I would not recommend signing up for the Enterprise plan without a better evaluation pricing model. Engineering problems are hard problems, and using a third-party software rather than Siemens' Team-Center is a risk to our business, even with its lower cost. Considering it is third-party, they should allow for a more flexible evaluation pricing model for their enterprise features, otherwise it's simply not worth a 1-year commitment with the amount of risk you take on. Donc, j'avais travaillé pendant environ un mois sur un projet de conception de machine à mi-chemin entre un passe-temps et un travail sur Fusion 360. Étant très novice en CAO en général, j'apprenais beaucoup au fur et à mesure. Ce n'est que lorsque j'avais terminé environ 80 % de ma conception que j'ai pensé qu'une nomenclature serait nécessaire. Après avoir découvert que Fusion n'avait pas cette fonctionnalité intégrée, la panique a commencé. Quelques minutes de recherche frénétique en ligne pour une solution (qui ont semblé durer une éternité), j'ai trouvé Open BOM. En moins de 10 minutes, j'avais téléchargé, installé et configuré Open BOM dans Fusion et obtenu une nomenclature pour une partie de ma conception. Je ne peux pas parler des fonctionnalités avancées ou de nombreuses fonctions, mais pour un individu complètement novice, c'était rapide, intuitif et cela a rendu ma vie tellement plus facile lorsqu'il a fallu commander, puis inventorier les plusieurs milliers de pièces individuelles de ma création. For a startup like ours, OpenBOM has really helped us to manage our bill of materials and stock control. The system is easy to work with, organise or parts list and update them with without fuss. The user-friendly interface allows us to get the job done in a few steps for those who are new to BOM management like me.
One of the nice features is the ability to attach images to items which makes it much easier to find and identify what we are looking for. This saves a lot of time compared to typical text-based searching alone. It provides confidence for the part you have selected.
Additionally, the support from the OpenBOM team has been excellent. They respond to queries quickly, are knowledgeable in providing solutions to problems, and provide assistance to help understand the workflow of the system. Their assistance has been top-notch.
We have also developed a simple, independent interface for a simple goods in/out using OpenBOM’s API. The API documentation really helped us to create the system and deploy quickly and achieve what we have wanted to do.
OpenBOM is a great tool for inventory management at our small scale. It is reliable, easy to use, has a modern interface and I highly recommend for anyone managing parts and assemblies, particularly at a small scale as a startup like ours. There is a lack of high-level workflow guidance in the system where there is not quite a logical flow of buttons in the process, for example, the production planning purchase orders, all components are filled up with the expected amount automatically, but more often than not, parts come in separately, even from the same vendor so you have to set all the values to 0 for quantity received, then start counting your incoming items and then enter into the system. Simple issues but once you know where they are, the process works.

The leveled BOM was the biggest feature that makes it far better than others we were looking at. They use their own leveling coding and that required me to work with ChatGTP to come up with a macro to make it convert 1, 2, 3 , 4 to codes like 1. 1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.2.1 etc. I do not program but once I had that working and a few other import tricks, I was uploading large BOMs that were fully leveled all in one shot. The compare tool makes it easy. Right click-where used is great. Perusing up and down the BOM levels is a snap. It was easy to setup and we were browsing our data quickly once it was imported. TBD about what customization is necessary for frequent syncing with Netsuite. Daily sync does not seem to be common or standard offering. We anticipate that other departments will be interacting with NS daily and we are not sure what will be needed to have their updates captured by OpenBOM. We will likely contract to make this more frequent. Support hours have been good but due to European time zone, it is early calls for PST and not every day are they available. After reviewing a few options we decided to go with OpenBOM to manage a couple of hardware projects we're developing at our start up. OpenBOM has been really easy to set up and use and they provided a bunch of hands on support as we were getting started. The support team typically responds in less than a day and I couldn't be more happy with how much support was provided for our set up into the system.
I've come from a non-production planning background and the education that OpenBOM has provided has also been really valuable, both over video calls with Pedro and their online resources.

I appreciate that OpenBOM incorporates features that enable some basic production planning and inventory management capabilities in addition to hardware version control. It would be great if OpenBOM improved these features further so that inventory movements could be more easily audited and so that production planning had more logic associated with it. But these are non-core 'nice to haves', so I can't complain about the state of the system today!
