I am a daily user of Mstar direct. The platform allows me to perform in-depth fund analysis in a quick and accurate fashion. It has an extensive database that spans a very broad spectrum of asset classes and investment manager strategies. There are many analytics options available which is extremely beneficial for our multi-asset solutions service.
I have been particularly impressed by the cusotmer support from Mstar Direct. A special mention to Rohit Singh, a Customer Success Manager based in the UK, who has been incredibly helpful in answering my queries on Mstar Direct. He always ensure that my queries are addressed and handled by the relevant team(s) and has taken the time on several occasions to set-up a call with me to explain more detail-oriented queries. I have found that the fixed income data can be questionable at times, particularly where a portfolio has allocations to short-dated or less traditional fixed income asset types, such as Asset Backed Securities; in these circumstances, I have found that the assets can often be misclassified, which can lead to inaccurate results in terms of risk attribution and other analysis.
It would be useful if Mstar Direct could provide a notification-type system that informs about fund-related changes and updates, like a newsfeed on fund-specifics. Something similar to what Citywire offers. I think this would further enhance Mstar Direct as a one-stop-shop for all fund-related matters.
I have found that it can be difficult to find benchmarks in the search box, as it requires that the benchmark name is entered exactly as it is named in Mstar Direct, which can oftentimes be an abbreviation of the official benchmark name.
I would like to be able to run the monthly performance attribution analysis of our multi-asset fund-of-funds model portfolios on an "automated basis", where I can set up a batch report to automatically generate and send me the reports on a periodic basis. The desktop app is 'clunky'. By that I mean it's sometimes slow and can be unintuitive.
It can be difficult to find the security you're after, especially for those that share an ISIN but have different SEDOLs (you can't search by Sedol).
It's unneccesarily difficult to manage folders, datasets, lists in comparison to other programmes.

The help desk used to be great. Now I get routed to Mumbai office, and it's really bad. They are nice, but they know very little, and I'm not even sure they have headsets....the sound quality is horrible. This is based on about 5-10 interactions with them. Avis collecté par et hébergé sur G2.com.
