10 Software Categories in High Demand to Support Remote Work
Throughout my time at G2, traffic patterns on G2.com category pages have been one of the most significant data points to monitor. Time and again, the changes in those patterns have proven a good indicator of emerging trends and a strong reflection of change in software markets. The current global crisis caused by COVID-19 is, unsurprisingly, creating a large shift to tools that support remote work.

Zoom is very good. I use it in teaching my classes because of the control it gives the host. Google Meet is a close second for me. Zoom allows you to use breakout rooms, so if you have teams of people or departments, it's easy to sort those people into their own rooms and, as host, you can drop in on each meeting individually. Zoom allows for webinar hosting as well, so you could set it up so that participants could only interact via chat rather than video and audio. That saves bandwidth if you have a large group. Just some thoughts.

Very positive rating for business use. I ran an online problem solving company for years and tried every group solution out there: Webex, GotoMeeting, etc. all with some issues. Then Zoom came along and, for a while missed the ability to hold breakouts (main group splitting into subgroups), but now they have that feature. Simple to use, high quality video and audio, everything you need for effective online meetings.

Zoom is a very reliable platform and very easy to use. I would rank it as one of the best video conferencing platforms. There is a lot of press slamming Zoom's security but the vast majority of the security problems with Zoom are user error. Before using Zoom (or any Cloud Platform for that matter), educate yourself on the security best practices like MFA, password protecting meetings, limiting screen sharing to hosts and co-hosts, etc.

This is interesting. I have utilized Zoom for a couple of years taking virtual online classes. Now with Covid 19 and self-quarantine I am utilizing at work . I am Clergy (Cantor in a Synagogue). We utilize Zoom for several things. On a scale of 1 - 10 I give it a 9 for Meetings, a 10 for private tutoring, a 9 for teaching a class. However for live-streaming services I only give it a 5. Let me explain: There is a latency issue with sound. Not Zoom's fault, it was not set up for this kind of format. From what I understand for sound they are only utilizing one channel, however when running services with over 100 portals open sound cuts out (unless you mute everyone) so that people want to hear others participating it becomes cacophony. I would love for zoom to somehow increase their audio capabilities to prevent much of the latency. I know that it is hard, and Zoom is not so much into live-streaming, but conferencing. However if Zoom can figure out 80% of the sound latency issues (increasing and strengthening sound channel(s) it is a good enough program to seriously compete with the sound-streaming platforms that are out there.

Agree with the first four answers - plus it is a great way to increase your peoples' confidence on video. In my experience, many have to come to terms with their video image before they are willing to join remote meetings; Zoom is an easy way to use a mentoring process for that. Its also a great way to learn how to moderate meetings effectively where remote sites are involved. If you've ever been in a meeting at a remote site where "Head Office" does all the talking, you'll know the benefit of learning that skill.

This is the next best thing when it comes to sales. Of course, 9 times out of 10 if you do in person sales, they buy more, bc the sales person can feed off of body language. You loose that when you do over the phone. But zoom, if in person sales just can't be done, this is the way to go.

I rate it 10 out of 10. Zoom is a fantastic option for business video teleconferencing. It is so easy to use and very user friendly. The host of the conference sets up the meeting and then simply sends an email to all invitees. The participants simply click on the link in their email and they are ready to go. The invitees do not need to set anything up or create an account. We have had no issues at all. Even our most challenged tech folks are up and using the platform. It is really an easy way to connect people all over.

It's an easy, comfortable software to learn and understand. Generally, people want to learn this. They hear about it and want to be a part of it. I would like to see dialogue or commentary as a sidebar. I would imagine that Slack would do that also if I Think about it , but we all get ideas in groups and they don't always hit you when it's appropriate and blurting out something untimely, doesn't get the attention it might otherwise deserve. I worked years ago with Facilitate.com, and it was primarily polling and typed commentary. It could be daunting to some participants, but Zoom has a much easier platform. I see the video and a viewable, typed commentary being a good marriage.

I agree with the comments that the Breakout Group feature is essential, and very easy for the moderator to use and the groups to understand. One feature that would be helpful for Breakout Groups would be an integrated timer, to remind groups to rejoin the main meeting.
I do have concerns about its security. It is so easy to use because Zoom has developed a product that takes over a few of your computer's security settings for you. I agree that it creates a much improved experience for novices. However, it also creates potential concern for companies where your information is sensitive or could be a competitive advantage if one of your competitors got ahold of it.
My recommendation is 9/10 for usability, but have your Information Security team review the product first before giving everyone at the company the go-ahead to use it.

Zoom is a cloud-based video conferencing platform that allows users to connect with each other face-to-face, even when they are not in the same place. Zoom can be used for a variety of purposes, including business meetings, online classes, and social gatherings.

Zoom also allows me to "Share" my screen when I need to show my student something on my computer. I also use it to reconnect with family who have moved. Updates each other, check in, etc.
If you're a mentor in New York, you can meet with your mentee who lives in Georgia, you can set up a Zoom session to have recurring meetings with no set time or meetings w/specific times.
The free Zoom sessions are offered for 45 minutes. If you need longer sessions, then there is a very economical fee to have unlimited time for your meetings.
