"I'm My Own Bookseller, Thanks to Square"

5/5

What do you like best about Square Point of Sale?

Square has made it super convenient for me as a published author to generate sales without traditional booksellers, and even Amazon.

Local bookstores will have consignments, where total sales come through a check made after a period of a few months. The same thing goes for the Global Retail Market, where I'm not even allowed to touch my profits until a certain total sales point has been reached.

For online and traditional brick & mortar stores, the process of selling my book becomes almost pointless, especially for someone trying to make it in the niche indie market. With Square, it is the complete opposite. I can order a set of my books fresh off the printer, delivered in about a week, and have sales from local venues, all within a week or two time-frame.

Most of my sales have been by selling signed copies at reading events, art exhibits/festivals, and just talking to people about my book at creative hotspots like the Venice Boardwalk. Its all so immediate, and truly a source of pride for me as both writer and bookseller of my own work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Square Point of Sale?

Currently, there seems to be no point to most of their products, as the card reader they give for free works out just fine. The chip reader and apple pay reader models are a bit pricey, so I don't see a point in using them as everyone who has apple pay or a chip will likely have a workable card (or just cash). Recommendations to others considering Square Point of Sale:

Just stick with the free card reader. There is no reason to pay for the higher end products at this point in time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Square Point of Sale solving and how is that benefiting you?

Through Square POS, I've been able to realize that as a seller, I can also be my own marketer. I can go to local art venues, or even Venice Beach, socialize and discuss my book, all while technically promoting it at scale for the indie market. I can go to local bloggers and magazines in the area and say, "hey people are interested in my book, would you like to do a story on it?" It's been quite empowering to say the least.
