“A reasonable production reporting function at a reasonable cost”
What do you like best about GreaseBook?

Greasebook is probably one of the best products at this particular price range. Especially when you consider everything you get with the app. One of the things that we do with Greasebook which I think is great is we pay a small monthly fee for all our shut in wells. That way, for a minimal cost our team can can in and look at all historical production info, pressures and any other important things that we want on shut in wells. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

“Best Chemical Simulator for process”
What do you like best about Aspen HYSYS?

Aspen HYSYS is a versatile process simulator. You can simulate any chemical process with different cases. It has a wide range of thermodynamic packages and compounds are available for different needs. The specialized processes like amine, HF, and hydrogen correction can be embedded in the process to get more accurate results. Different types of optimization, sensitivity analysis, Thermophysical data, and curves can be obtained for a wide range of process parameters. Recycle option is there which is not available in aspen plus. Unit operations for refineries are available in HYSYS. Crude assay and petroleum characteristics are more relevant than other simulators. Energy optimization, capital cost estimators, and Pinch analysis can be done with just one click. The help menu is very useful to get the theory behind various options available. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Aspen HYSYS?

The user interface and selection of thermodynamic packages are very confusing. One needs to be an expert in thermodynamics before doing any modification. For custom packages, primitive computer language like FORTRAN is used. Unlike open-source simulator DWSIM, Calculation steps and equations are hidden from the user. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Aspen HYSYS:

If you are an expert and want to get an in-depth understanding of the process which is very near to the real plant use HYSYS only.

If you are a novice my suggestion would use another open-source easy-to-use software that builds a base for advanced simulation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

renumbering of the vast system is very hectic and during assembly chances of the same node number repeating and the model gets irregular happens most of the time. more user-friendly tools for modeling will be highly appreciatable. snow loads analysis should be provided more accurately and underground piping taking the loads above it must have been included. more modeling tools which would have been made it more user-friendly to model the pipe systems. more calculations and better stimulation for finding more about stress intensification factors in tees and fittings would have been better. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is CAESAR solving and how is that benefiting you?

temperature expansion and stress developed due to pressure and temperature failures, the accuracy during the process is very high. pressure equivalent methods of flange leakage method are very useful and accurate. can be very useful to find out the nozzle loads and vibrations in the piping systems. the displacements at every node can be found out very easily.

for analysis of piping systems, caesar ii provides extremely high accurate results and a better user-friendly method of stimulation. dynamic analysis to find out the resonance frequencies and two-phase flows are very helpful in piping analysis. seismic results and different load cases for different scenarios are very helpful for different stimulations in the process industry. we will be using the caesar to find out the stresses acting on every point and comparing with the allowable and make sure it is safe as per standards. “Powerful, but use with caution!”
What do you like best about gPROMS?

gPROMS provides unmatched for power and speed, when it comes to modelling and simulation of complex dynamic systems. Part of this strength comes from the implementation of the equation solvers, that are capable of solving even PDEs in a fast and reliable fashion, a feature that even established programming languages such as MATLAB or Python struggle with. Optimization is also uncomplicated and easy-to-implement.

The solid object oriented programming style and use of modules makes creating DRY code easier. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about gPROMS?

The error analysis tool is very unforgiving, as it keeps shouting for the smallest mistakes (e.g. fixing an extra variable in an algebraic equation system can lead to 80 unrelated error messages) which can result in painful headaches.

The user interface (GUI) is quite basic and has a lot of room for improvements, especially given the fact that occasionally the coding syntax can be unintuitive.

Also the user support system is quite ineffective. The coding style in itself is hard to follow, especially without any official or extensive user manual or educational videos published, which is topped by a small user community. Therefore, when facing a challenge it is almost impossible to get help. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is gPROMS solving and how is that benefiting you?

The high speed in solving complex systems and optimization problems is second to none. I used it for a course on dynamic systems simulation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
