The metadata capacities for ACC & Autodesk Build are at the same time lacking and too restrictive.

An example of the metadata being lacking is the lack of a Revision Number field for drawings stored in the sheets field. Revisions start at rev 0 for construction, but versions start at version 1, since they count from 1 up... so as you can see a revision number and a version number could never correctly be represented via purely metadata.

A second shortcoming that is related to being too restrictive would be the submittal workflow area always requiring a submittal to be associated with a specification. I've been informed that the work-around for a workflow that does not have an associated specification that you could chose a generic un-used specifciation, however it seems very applicable to allow for the disengagement of a submittal with the requirement to have specification assocation. The Dispatcher helps us keep track of over 300 pieces of equipment and 100 employees across 30 jobsites on a daily basis. As a heavy civil construction company, there is frequent change between jobsites with regard to equipment and tools. Dispatcher makes tracking this information very easy for our scheduling manager. Number one for us, keeping track of which subcontractors have billed and do they have the compliance items (lien waivers, COI's) we need. We now have complete transparency over who has submitted their lien waivers when paying. Number two is having clean pay applications that don't have CO's being billed that are not in our system. Accounting spends way less time cleaning up subcontractor pay applications and tracking down compliance items. As of right now, where I think JobTread has the most room for improvement with selections/specifications, and in some areas with expense management, invoicing (particularly with cost-plus). That being said, I know they are working on this updates to these features currently, so there's a good chance this changes in the next few months!

And as much as I love that JobTread displays so much information, there are some screens and dashboards that I wish were a little more refined and user-friendly. More like, what problems is JobTread NOT solving? The core benefit of JobTread comes from the budgeting and job costing features. At the end of the day, you can't run a business if you can't understand the numbers. JobTread offers so much flexibility and really empowers contractors to look at their financials in a different way. It’s hard to explain until you really start working with it. The way you can configure a budget to display information in a way that actually makes sense. It makes some decisions for you (like specific columns for estimate, expenses, income and profit), but you are free to arrange them however you like to create real-time reports directly in the budget itself.

Another problem JobTread solves is that it allows us to consolidate so many other tools into one place. There's no more context switching between different apps for messaging, spreadsheets, bookkeeping, scheduling, task management and files. As all in one as they are, they don't have a payroll processing system. They do timecards and can job cost all labor but it has to be sent to a 3rd party processor (which might be a good thing for liability reasons, someome else files your payroll taxes). The only thing that I would change about it, is that not every job is going to warrant a nice looking proposal to be sent. Some smaller jobs, just need an itemized estimate sent over. Nothing fancy. But in order to just send the itemized estimate, you have to first download the PDF, and then send it via text, or email. You can't view a client's complete file. As in multiple projects from before conviently and I hate how it only opens on the side. I also don't like how you can't have multiple propsals/contracts on one project especially when it has multiple phases I have to create multiple projects which confuses the guys out in the field for clocking in. We also have several issues with the app it constantly times out or takes forever to load. Which is not very convient for guys in the field. Also I don't like how you can't archive proposals/estimates so you can keep them for a later time. Overall, we do have significant complaints about Acumatica. I would say we would like to see more low-code/no-code workflow capabilities across the platform. We are leveraging Acumatica to be our primary accounting system as well as a basis for our operational client billing and management sytem in the Home Care industry. We are using the Field Service components along side of the project accounting aspects plus we are significantly extending the product with the Acumatica development platform. The different dimensions (Classes, Departments, vendors, Customer etc.) are split in different applications. If it can be merged into one single application - "Company", it would be more easy to use.

My role in the accounts payable process - processing bills.

One problem is our billing software does not allow us to process multi-currency bills (Ex: Base currency of entity - USD, vendor bill currency - EUR) accurately, which Sage intacct through its multi-currency billing feature allows me to process bills with the live exchange rates based on the bill dates. Unfortunately, once you start using CoConstruct, you are essentially locked in, as it is hard to export data. Our small business used CoConstruct with no complaints until last year, when they jacked up our rates exponentially (by about $5,000). We were blindsided by the outrageous increase in price. Because of how software-centric CoConstruct is, it is not easy to take your data and go to another company. You are pretty much stuck with them if you aren't willing to walk away from your project data. I would avoid CoConstruct entirely unless you are in a position to walk away from your project data.
