I like how it's setup for beginners, it makes it more appealing with its drag functionality. If you don't know what programming means then this is for you. Nice tool for 2D games.

Additionally, its popularity result in a wide community of users and resources available on the web. GameMaker is a great tool for anyone interested in developing games. Although it may not be the best compared to others, like Unity, its simplicity results in a lower entry barrier for newcomers.

It has a very generous layout for even people that are not familiar with coding. It has its own programming language that has been simplified for people to get into programming but isn't limited to just that, the fact that it can prepare you for other programming languages is one of its strongest suite in my opinion.
