It doesn't hang the machine while open a large file. vim editor doesn't require a mouse. its very helpful to edit the code on servers as they don't have graphics user interface(linux). Its an open source.

I really like that I don't need to leave my keyboard to move around the text files or between them. It runs on almost any kind of operating system. You can extend its functionality with the plugins available.

The best part of vim is that it is open source and comes with a ton of power features. Some of my personal best features are - vertical selection of code block, select multiple lines, vertical/horizontal split.
